Markoth Guide [Radiant Difficulty] [Hollow Knight]

- The Radiant Markoth fight (let’s say it straightly) is a huge pain and believed to be the second hardest boss among all other radiant bosses in Hollow Knight, right after Absolute Radiance*. However, after plenty of tries, I finally found a reliable strategy!
The guide will show you how to beat Markoth (Radiant/Ascended) hitless as quickly and safely as possible, covering all his attacks in details, such that it would be easier to identify them (attacks) during your tries. After watching this guide, you will know how to react and dodge Markoth attacks the most efficient way (in my opinion). Also, the video includes my two fights, where one is safe, with almost no risky moves, and the rng-one, lasting roughly 25 seconds.
The tips in this Markoth guide, as well as charms recommendations, are selected with an idea to maximally minimize the second phase, but if you are trying to defeat Markoth in Pantheon of Hallownest, then I would propose to focus on counting Nail-arts hits (and use the charms which you like the most). In pantheons (or on attuned difficulty), after 7 Great/Dash Slashes you should wait for his Shield Cyclone attack since any hit after that will trigger the second phase. All other parts of the guide work the same there.
P.S: Radiant difficulty increases Markoth’s health by 46.153% (from 650 to 950), the arena's ground disappears, platforms are rearranged, and you die in one hit.
P.S.S: Recommended charms: Nailmaster’s Glory, Soul Catcher, Soul Eater, Shaman Stone, Spell Twister, Sprintmaster (optional) and Wayward Compass (very important on Radiant difficulty! :). Other upgrades: Pure Nail, all masks, all soul vessels.

Some useful/interesting info and tips:
+ For controller users. I heard that using nail arts with default settings is quite hard. I found a solution on Reddit. ObliviousM suggests mapping LB also to attack during combat, making your right thumb free for jumping while charging nail arts with a left finger. Hope this helps. ( / a_little_trick_to_bett... )
+ Dash Slash tip. To perform a Dash Slash easily, and not doing dash with a Great Slash instead, you could try to press attack button several times right after you clicked the Dash button (having charged Nail-art beforehand). Doing Dash-Slash this way provides you with an opportunity to not care about timings. Hope this helps if you were struggling with it.

Don’t be upset if you got caught by his Nail-Barrage or Shield Cyclone attack. It takes time to master his movements, especially if you are not a fan of Nail-arts (which, btw, I believe is the most reliable attacks in the game :). Be patient and be ready for his next attack!

CrystalTurtle I’m really bad at nail arts because it take a while to charge ,unless you have
nail mater glory, and it is annoying to move while having it charge, and finally it makes you sit still for sooo long
NArts are way underrated. They are just godly until you get quick slash and unbreakable strength, powerful against godhome, and amazing for specific bosses. The only problem is pure vessel and the radiance are a lot harder with NArts
The fact that you kept wayward compass in your charm build makes you a god among men
Over charmed just lets you get away with it

Considering the rotations, it is 3 rotations on average, sometimes it can be 4, but after the 3d one, you should be ready for him to change it.
This is the only guide I have noticed that said his shield spin reverses every few rotations. Thank you.
this build is incredibly helpful, I hate this moth, least favorite thing he does is when he charges you like a bat outta hell trying to do contact damage.

Also, a small note about his movement pattern. Markoth doesn't have a specific one, which makes predicting his moves harder. That's why I recommend going back a little after each 2-3 Great Slashes.
I was already so salty when I did it in ascended difficulty, and I was scared to lose patience in radiant. But with your strategy, which seem easy to do, I finally did it in only 30min, without be frutrated. A big thank to you ❤️ !
Exactly the same with me, I did it in ascended without tutorials and it was a hell, but with this tutorial in almost 30 minutes I got it too.

God I hate this boss so fucking much, the part I hate so much is that his main attack the Nail Barrage spawns randomly and since my luck is garbage most of the time it just spawns behind the wall on or in front of me after I jump or dash away. I don't like boss that just throw a bunch of stuff on the screen like but those are manageable and fun when after I got good at fighting them and my blood stopped boiling, my favorite bosses are the ones whose attacks comes out do fast that you needed to see the future or possess the sharingan or ultra instinct in order to react to, but that Sonofabitch Markoth just randomly throwing a bunch of shit at the screen and I loath that fight. He was the one to end my second ever attempt at the pantheon of hollownest, I had some close call, fights that I just barely won by the skin of my teeth but did it even some I fought for the first time, but that asshole Markoth ended my run, yeah I haven't been able to beat him up to that point and I did tried to fight the pantheon of hollownest because why not I didn't expect to get far I just wanted to fight the sisters of battle but I surprised myself and got extremely far but that Jack off Markoth made me take it up the ass, the only thing that distracted me from the ass pain was my blindly furious rage so obviously I had to fight him again until I can bully him and take his lunch money then piss on him grave.
I hate oblobbles more. How do you want do dodge all that shit
@@baumbaumastast3823 Yeah that fight is garbage, but fucking Markoth is just pure shit because at least the attacks in the oblobbles are not random the problem is is just to much but you can dodge those the same with Markoth but you get surprised less with bullshit attacks.

@@andreainghilterra Soul Tyrant is manageable since he doesn't use his soul orbs or whatever that attack name is but he doesn't use it for the entire fight, I actually like that fight, it fun to kick ass it's also fun to bully soul master, the second phase for both fights can be a bit of a pain but they are not as annoying as Markoth.
Great video, I tried this charm layout before but gave it up after 3 hours of losses, tried it again after watching your video and realizing I'd missed some details about his attacks and the strategy and beat him in 30 minutes, really good guide

Great video! I beat him by being incredibly patient which I thought was very different from how I played every other radiant boss in the game. This guide showed me that you can be aggressive towards him and get good, reliable damage without risking getting hit. Thanks for making this

Just coming here to thank you! It took me quite a few tries but I finally did it. Now my thumbs hurt, but I'm happy to say I'm finally done :) Now on to AbsRad!
One thing I'll say that helped me was taking it slow where I could. By the time I ended up beating him I was already getting pretty good at dodging/predicting and such, but it really helped to slow it down and not feel like I needed to beat him ASAP. It also helped to recognize when he was in a bad position for me to try to attack during the Shield Cyclone, so I learned to back away and try again during the next cyclone.
I wish I could know how many attempts it took, but it was a solid 2-3 days of trying. He's def a tough one.

As someone struggling on Pantheon 5 because of this friggin' moth, this video is very appreciated. Just need to work out a charm loadout that lets me beat him and then deal with NKG. Not having Sharp Shadow for him makes it much more difficult for me.

You are a living god. This strategy rules (I used the shade soul strategy and a mix of great slash and dash slash on the first phase). Took me a few attempts but surely way less that it would take with the dumb strat I was trying (grubberfly ellegy and other useless stuff). Thanks a lot, you rock!

Ascended Markoth took me quite some time to defeat, so I was putting off Radiant Markoth for later, then I came across this video, and after watching it, I really felt like trying it...
It took me quite some time (a little over an hour), I messed up badly many times, got pretty unlucky when he spawned his nails in the direction I was moving to, and I also missed MANY Great Slashes because I rarely ever use the Nail Arts (and I thought Great Slash had a bigger range than it does)
I eventually did it, and TBH, I actually think Ascended Markoth took me longer than in Radiant (don't remember how long he took me on Ascended)
But anyways, thanks for making this video :D

I will be sure to use this! For some reason markoth is the hardest boss on radiant for me. I've even done NKG and abs rad but am unable to beat markoth. I've watched this a few times now and I think I can attempt it.

Great strat! Only took me like 30 minutes with this build
Cool guide! I already done him by myself (so much time...), but it was interesting watching someone with a different strategy. My journey started not on radiant, but on ascended because I was 3-shot, I overcharmed myself, because I knew that I should develop at least some strategy to defeat him at radiant, I started with just using my nail... And had a normie set: quick nail, shaman stone, unbreakable strength, steady body (yes), sprint master (yes...) and something else, probably grimmchild for some damage then I remembered about nail arts and started using them and nail master's glory, shortly after I realized that I used nail arts for distance so I tried long nail and mark of pride (-quick nail and grimmchild), it was great I beated ascended Markoth, but radiant was bad, I wasn't counting or trying to understand when will his second phase start, I was struggling, I stopped fighting him, I only returned when I had beaten all of the bosses on radiant except one's that only appear in pantheons, I beated him quite fast I started to understand when he starts second phase without counting because I can't properly, I used nail arts and pure nail, I just used nail arts when he did his shield attack and then Abyss Shreeked him, journey for hours....
I have been struggling to beat that boss in the pantheon of hallownest, like he literally the only hard part for me and even when I beat him I beat with only 4 health left but your strategy made defeat him on radiant in less than 10 tries, I have nothing to say but thank you

Melotaku this strat works really well in p5, use nail arts only in his first phase and use shaman stone and shade soul in his second phase to kill him quick, preferably when he rotates his shields so you have basically guaranteed double hits with shade soul
this friking boss is the only reason I can't pass the pantheon of hallownest

Thanks for the vid. I'm struggling with ascended and PoH Markoth, so I will definitely try a nail art build. Any tips on a regular PoH build? I would guess Shaman Stone (3), Nailmaster (1), Unbreakable (3), and Soul Eater (4)? Does that sound reasonable?

Thanks man you really helped me out with beating this crazy boss but i still have several more bosses to no hit like sly and watcher knights which kick my ass off anytime i try beating them.
the best advice for Sly and Watcher Knights is practice, because they have patterns you can memorize. If you want some more tips - with Sly, just try to get in 1 hit at a time, maybe 2 if you have quick slash; he has an opening after almost all his attacks, and you'll get the rhythm down. The frenzy at the end is the hardest part; I used spells to beat him for most of that - dash away from his spin and use Shade Soul. Don't use any spells for the first half, and use Shaman Stone or Spell Twister to make the most of spells during the frenzy. For Water Knights, you want Quick Slash and Shaman Stone; use nail only to beat the first Knight, then make the most of Shade Soul to hit both Knights at a time whenever there are two out, slashing quickly for soul when you need it.
I found Markoth way more challenging than Water Knights or Sly (or literally any other boss I've done so far, and I've done them all except NKG and AbsRad) because his movement is so random and it's so hard to nail down patterns that aren't there. I'm improving very slowly lol
Just came back and finally beat markoth on radiant before wondering what strategies others have come up with. I rarely use nail arts but I think I'll have to start, cause it looked far easier than me trying to pogo and get random normal slashes in.
