My father was in North Carolina last week and kept sending me pics of black bears they would see from the road( many of them!) and when I talked to him 2 days later he said I will call you back after our hike in the woods!! Really!?
That first video is absolutely horrifying. You don’t realize how quickly you tire out walking backwards until you try it. Your using muscles you don’t normally use. And to walk backwards that far and fast without stumbling is another challenge. When those cubs started running towards him, you could start to hear the panic in his voice. He’s so lucky that ended well. I would be so terrified!!
The first thing is iyou can't out t run a bear So mixed with fear makes your judgement clouded truth is bears attack when ever they feel like it I used to love the woods and nature after these stories I'm all set for now
In the first video the mom and her cubs are not stalking him, she just happens to be going the same way as him. But he is very lucky that she isn't seeing him as a threat, and her body language explains it. She's calm, and just going on her way along the trail, and obviously not looking worried at all. 🐻
Agreed. Mom was completely relaxed, just strolling down the trail because it takes less effort than the underbrush (even looking away from him entirely a few times). Cubs were playful and relaxed. I think if he had startled the cubs or if the curious cubs had gotten much closer that could have changed quickly. Very lucky!
Exactly she would of charged him min b4.sow was not scared or protective for cubs like you said he was in there path,Luck and his religious beliefs were on his side that situation. Most bears aren't so mellow minded and he would of been mauled.
This is just plain wrong. Maulings are rare, and to be killed by a grizzly is extremely rare. Btw I'm an alaska hunter/fisher/climber so I think I probably know a thing or two
@@tkhiopdj6653 you might be right, but I'm this circumstance I feel it's different. The distance between them was so close and the fact that the cubs were present, I feel elevates the danger and likelihood of an attack. Am I wrong?
@@michaeljorden839 yep still wrong. I literally shouted down a mom and a cub yesterday. And significantly closer too. You yell like crazy, make yourself big, and stand your ground if it bluff charges
Legend has it that that fella is still walking backwards to this day, followed closely by mummy bear & her 2 cubs. He was last seen walking backwards through Paris.
The third video really made me upset. The lady continued to film out her window, with her children behind her even AFTER the bear charged the glass?! 3 charges, and no concern it could potentially break the glass 😩
Not necessarily, she didn't show signs of stress, she was calm and he did the right thing. Never run, you will prompt the bear into chasing you and you cannot outrun a bear. Staying calm and giving a bear space while keeping an eye on it is the best thing you can do. A bear you can see who isn't attacking you, is a lot less dangerous than the one you can't see taking a nap or guarding it's food, that you stumble upon. Yes this could have ended much worse, had the bear felt threatened and wanted to attack. But this bear seems very chill and just walking on the path from point A to point and B. She may be used to humans and doesn't feel threatened. And as long as he didn't panic, I think he was always gonna get out of it safely as long as he stayed calm and kept giving her space. Bears have different personalities and there are different attacks for different reasons. Learn what to do in case of a brown/grizzly vs a black bear, or polar bear. Playing dead won't save you if the worst scenario happens and a bear sees you as a meal. Education is key. But panicking is never the best thing to do. Of course that's easier said than done but learning more always helps. Knowledge is power. Empower yourselves and be prepared for anything. Especially if you live in bear country.
The video of the bear and the pizza was actually pretty funny to watch. He just wanted some pizza and then got mad because the door wouldn't stay open. 😆🐻
Yeah that was hilarious. You could kind of follow the entire thought process there. What a random place to just throw pizza boxes, though. Seemed like a frat house thing to do.
I am terrified of bears. There were bears and mountain lions all over the mountains where my parents lived up in the Sierra Nevada mountains...they bought a huge mountain top piece of land and had a big house and pool built on it. I could never really enjoy it because it was seriously like building a house in the middle of a big animal enclosure at the zoo, it was awful. They loved it up there, but there were always big cats on the roof, bears in the yard, deer, etc., you couldn't go outside without being stalked by some alpha predator....the animals had lived up there forever and weren't about to give it up, and I don't blame them, It was their territory....
@@marcgambone4240 I tried to go outside one morning with a cup of coffee, and there was a big cat just sitting in the bushes. It wasn't huge or anything, but it was a large, wild animal and it was too early to be brave...I admit that it was paradise otherwise, it was right outside of Yosemite National park, so the landscape was absolutely beautiful and scenic. I am not a mountain person, I love the beaches, water and islands, that's my idea of heaven. I did give up swimming in the ocean when a bunch of people in the Gulf of Mexico, where we go, were bitten by sharks...
@@christineparis5607 I don't know what's scariest, bear, big cat or shark. Personally wouldn't want to be eaten by any of them! Too bad you didn't have a fence around the property
@@marcgambone4240 I spent a few young years working at SeaWorld and every single person who worked in animal care had been injured at least once by animals. My best friend swam with the dolphins to habituate them with trainers, and her rib was broken by a playful whack of a 600 pound dolphins tail! Our friend Rob had his finger taken off by a net, one guy was helping measure a small shark when it wheeled around and slashed his leg all the way to the bone in less than a second. Killer whales were always getting trainers, some died...seaworld originally had Steller Seals but they were incredibly territorial and could jump incredibly high and escape their enclosures, attacking who ever was in the way....it goes on and on and still is., I'm sure, wild animals and humans should not interact, except to leave each other alone peacefully. I didn't feel that way until I worked there, and even the most unimaginative idiot could see that the animals were frustrated and pissed off. I left before I lost any neccessary body parts, and became an advocate against animal "theme" parks. I started writing a book, but a lot of the co workers are afraid to talk, like a whale mafia is going to come after them...I'm still writing it, though...
That was a young black bear just curious he wasnt hurting anything just sniffing. Reacting in fear to animals is what often enrages them and and causes them act as if they have been provoked. It wasnt going to hurt them It was just wondering what that truck was and why they were there and maybe what they were inside it.
@@ArmaGuyz yeah the bear would see them rolling up their windows and react with rage having recognized and understanding how that is an act of fear by the hunters...
“Oh come on guys give me a break” I laughed so hard to this knowing that had to be a terrible situation when cubs are chasing you and you’re walking backwards trying not to fall and watch for mamma bear at the same time.
Funny check out some videos with them eating animals alive. They get you down and pin you with 1000 pounds and eat you alive. Take a look at that. They also eat cubs. Which was shocking to hear and see. Go have a look. See how funny bears are after that. I dare you.
This happened to me when I hiked to LeConte in the Great Smoky Mt. Nt. Park. It was not grizzlies, of course, but black bears. We hiked up Arch Rock, through Alum Cave Bluff to the summit of LeConte. I was with my 10-year-old son. For some reason, bears were everywhere. We were trying to leave the summit and go down Newfound Gap Trail to the AT. There was a big bear standing in the path. I was petrified, but behind me was this young girl wearing a headband. She looked like Wonder Woman and picked up a rock and hurled it at the bear. The bear scarpered off into the brush. This young lady will forever be my hero. We made it back to the Newfound Gap parking area where my wife was waiting to pick us up. Such an adventure.
--- she was just confidant: - confidant that she could outrun at least you ( and probably your kid ) if the bear took offense to having a rock thrown at it
Having kids already disqualifys you for the darwin award and to have chance to win the award you need at least loose the ability to reproduce. You dont get it for just being dumb
In Philmont, a group of scouts were shocked to see a baby bear wandering around. The younger guys were excited, but the more experienced hikers yelled, "Run." Where there is a baby bear, there has to be a mama bear.
@@alicecuriosityoftenleadsto6288 well before they seen the moma bear they should run to stop it from finding them also they won’t run after you without their child
We drew for a mule deer hunt at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico in early October. We were mounted and saw two large boar black bears within 50 yards. On both occasions those big boys ignored us and our horses didn't spook because we were upwind but it could have turned into quite a circus. Great memories!
@@alicecuriosityoftenleadsto6288 even cows chase people who are running, and specially when they are afraid, i did notice some bears put their cubs in trees along busy highways, animals are not stupid
If a Mama bear sees you as a threat, she will stop the threat and then go back to her cubs. They know instinctively to go up a tree if there's danger, one noise from Mama that suggests a threat and they're up a tree. A Mama bear won't hesitate if they think you are too close to their cubs and running only encourages them to chase you. You back away and give them space, stay together in the group and try to appear as large as you can. Crowds are safer than lone hikers and explorers.
I had a similar -- though far less terrifying -- experience in Virginia. I was off-trail and came around a large rock outcropping to find three black bears -- a mom and her two cubs -- walking towards me about 20 yards away. We noticed each other at about the same time and all four of us just stopped in our tracks. I remember thinking at the time it was kind of funny, but it definitely got my adrenaline pumping. You never know when a mama bear will perceive a threat and come at you.
@@312Freecity Oh ok, sorry. I didn't know if anyone would be that interested -- there are a lot of bear encounter stories out there. But sure, happy to relate what happened. So we all stopped at once and I immediately put my hands up and out -- kind of at a 45 degree angle -- to make myself look as big as possible. I was afraid if I started backing up and disappeared around the corner, mom might think I had taken off and start chasing me. But when one of the cubs started trotting playfully a few steps in my direction, I didn't have much choice. I started backing up very slowly and shouted in a calm but firm voice, "Hey bear!" That got the little one to retreat a bit, but I also noticed mom start to yawn and huff, and pull her ears back, sure signs of stress or fear -- and worse, that a bear may be about to charge. That was the first time I really felt truly scared, and I had to resist the urge to run (which is the last thing you want to do because, well, it WOULD be the last you'd do. Ever.) Like all bears, black bears will attack if they believe their cubs are threatened, so you can never be sure what they might do. The one thing I had going for me, though, was the fact that most fatal black bear attacks are predatory, and I was pretty sure she was just worried about her cubs, not hungry. And sure enough, as soon as the cub that had started to walk toward me re-joined its family, all three turned around and wandered off the way they had come. Needless to say, after a minute or two, I did the same, checking behind me every 20 yards or so to make sure they hadn't changed their minds. I got back to my car about 20 minutes later and decided that was enough of a hike for that day. Hope that wasn't too long or boring. I figured I'd share the whole thing since I was asked about it. Have a great day!
@@312Freecity Thank you for the nice comment -- I appreciate that. Yeah, it was definitely not a situation I'd like to be in again. I've seen bears before and since while hiking in Shenandoah National Park and surrounding area, but all the other times the bear has been farther away and not on a "collision course" with me, so to speak. And most importantly, by far, is that none of those bears have had cubs with them. So as soon as I've made my presence known, they've always scampered off pretty quickly. Humans may not want to run into bears, but bears are even less happy about running into humans. 99.9% of the time, they want nothing to do with us.
@@RMR1 Thank you for recounting the story! I haven't had a bear encounter in the Shenandoah, (and hope I never do, honestly!), just one time a huge rattlesnake stretched across the trail in front of me. My one and only time with a rattlesnake there. You were so brave and smart, I honestly don't know what I would do!
Oddly enough, I think the man in the first video was in very little actual danger. Mama bear was not agitated one bit. If she even slightly perceived him as a threat her body language would have been way different.
I agree 100% her body language was calm and not bothered. I think she was going slow, also trying to keep distance between them. She seemed to not be particularly alarmed by being near humans, some females will stay closer to human presence in general to protect her cubs from larger males who will end cubs to make her go back into heat so she can be bred again. There's a famous bear in the Tetons who has used this exact strategy and very successfully. But in general bears are unpredictable and it pays to stay alert and be prepared for anything. Education is also key, know what to do in different situations with different bear species, knowledge is power especially if you live in bear country.
I use to do it for raccoons until a day ago when my best raccoon alerted me to danger.. there was a black bear approaching me. Five raccoons surrounded the bear which allowed me to get to safety. I got inside and got a few pics of it. I’ve had to change the feeding location for the raccoons. And I don’t think they’ll be getting pizza anytime soon.
I 100% agree. They wanted a cool video. Teaching bears houses have pizza inside is not cool . The people in that house are so stupid. Nobody leaves pizza boxes on the floor by the front door by mistake. Especially in bear County.
Slobs do. I know a family that throws their pizza boxes among other trash into the mud room. Only if they're feeling tidy. Otherwise it ferment on the counters.
Highly unwise to have a campsite near the water where the bears are and once you are in a campsite you really need to stay there. Third story shows that unless a person knows how to act around bears they shouldn't be allowed in places where they are.
That’s crazy, uneducated talk. Based on your analogy don’t go in the ocean, lakes, parks, camping, hiking, etc…. Your philosophy is to stay home locked up. That's difficult to walk backward while you are frightened by an animal of this size. I would of probably fallen. I was lucky it just didn't charge me. I think the stick I had kept it from charging.
I had a German Shepard chase after me when I was young and alone. I had no choice but to start running because that thing already made it’s mind up on wanting me. I got mauled a big on my back, foot and behind. Ever since I have been terrified of big dogs.

I slowly turned around to head back to my house and the dog was already chasing me, I could hear his nails skidding on the road. I Ofcourse started to run because I was afraid, young, alone, and never experienced this before. He bit my foot which made me fall belly face down. So then he stopped biting me and walked away. I’m guessing since I didn’t fight back he thought I was dead and walked back to his driveway.
After police went to the house they found out that the owners were snowbirds and left him there alone so he was obviously hungry and distraught. He was violent to the cops and they did kill him. Broke my heart because I love dogs. But after the attack I’ve been too afraid to be around big dogs.

We were hiking in Sequoia national park once and came across a mama bear and her three cubs. There was no one around but us and we had backpacks with food inside. We just calmly sat down and remained very still until they walked away. They saw us but luckily stayed away. It was an exhilarating moment to be sure.
I have seen a couple of bees and wasps before but in all of the cases I saw them I stayed as far away from them as I could at a safe distance and I left them alone and did not mess with them as I knew that they could sting me if I messed with them and in all of those cases the bees and wasps did not sting me and they left me alone.
I understand why some people in tiger/leopard areas wear masks on the back of the head ... They can walk faster away while the predator still thinks they still have the eyes on him ...

I live in bear country and if you see one in the wild they are impressive to say the least. Their power is legendary and their speed is terrifying. The man in the first video should have walked off the trail while keeping his eyes on him. Obviously the mother wasn't hungry and didn't think him a threat. And the two idiots in the truck are totally morons. To keep your windows open was foolhardy at best. That bear could have leapt into the window and attacked them before they could have reacted. Then they would have been in a confined space with an angry ball of teeth and claws.
What kind of person leaves leftover pizza laying around on the floor?!!! I bet if this is the norm at that house that bear isn't the only unwelcome intruder. Can you say ROACHES ....
This should have been titled "What to do if you want to be attacked by a bear". With the exception of the guy sitting in the tree, they are all lucky to be alive.
The mistake the first guy made was he stayed on the trail. The bears were simply taking the easiest path through the woods. That sow had probably walked that trail hundreds of times. Had he gotten off the path, they would have walked right on by.
That mom wasn't stalking the man, she was just walking the trail with her cubs and knew he wasn't a threat. He did exactly what he should have and got himself to safety. Chances are, if he just stepped off the trail, they would have passed him.
its in the house and the bear living on my yard did leave that alone, but the visitor bear did not, i was in time and chased it in a tree, after all, its my house hahaha
I had an exciting experience back in 1984 or 1985. A friend and I had flown from Atlanta to Montana for some fly fishing. We fished several rivers in Montana and also in the Gardner River in the northwest corner of Yellowstone near Mammoth Hot Springs. Because the river was somewhat narrow where we were fishing, my friend Ralph went about half mile upstream from me so we wouldn't tangle fishing lines. The fishing was great and soon I had an almost half full creel. Sad part is that before we went fishing in Yellowstone we learned a girl and her boyfriend who were camping had been attacked in their tent due to improper food storage it was thought. We also were reminded that if you encountered by a Grissly Bear you should not run from it because that would only excite the bear and they run faster. Also, if possible, you should climb a tree because Grisslys can't climb (wrong, BTW). And if you are attacked try to lay face down and cover your neck and head with your arms. But absolutely do not panic and DO NOT RUN! So as I kept fishing I happened to glance behind me and a Grissly was about 100 feet or so walking (not stalking or running) toward me on the same side of the stream. Did I panic? Hell yes I did. I jumped in the fast moving water - dropping my vest and hat and as I scrambled to the other bank I just knew I'd be attacked very soon. I did hang onto my fly rod. I managed to claw myself up the bank and turned to see if the bear was following. And there he was on the other side just looking at me like the fool I was. So I eased slowly back near some trees and just watched for a couple minutes trying to decide if I should climb one. To my relief the bear continued walking downstream away from me. I then decided to go upstream to look for Ralph, my buddy. In just a couple minutes there he was - on the other side of the stream walking downstream toward the bear. I waved my arms and mouthed "BEAR" to Ralph He shrugged and indicated he didn't understand. Finally I got him to hold up and I got closer to the water and finally made him understand there was a Grissly on that side and not far away. He came across to my side and at first didn't think it could be a Grissly - that is until we saw the bear bound across the stream effortlessly ahead and away from us. I'd rolled and got soaked when I crossed and all tangled when I crossed. We watched closely when all at once the Grissly started running away from the stream and bounded up the 45 degree slope of the canyon wall. WOW, Amazing! I was sure glad I had been spared the worst results of a panic in front of a Grissly Bear.
This video has taught me to always take extra underwear while camping. You are correct though not all bears are super aggressive it depends on the situation the bad part about that is you can never tell what they're going to do. and you certainly don't want to risk getting your arms ripped off
The bear @57 seconds is Holly and her cub along with her adopted cub, a very well known bear among those that go to Brooks Falls in Katmai in search of food for hibernation. The man filming these bears should have done as told during his "Bear Orientation Class" upon arriving at Katmai and moved off the trail to let her and her cubs pass which he failed to do. Had she attacked him, which wasn't likely since the bears are accustomed to humans, it would have been his fault, not her's. He should be ashamed of himself for putting his own life as well as the life of Holly and both cubs in danger. (The name of the park is Kat - my National Park, not Kat - may)
I was looking for this comment, thank you Grandma J. I'm glad someone knew about him going off of the trail to get out of their way. People are so dense they don't pay attention to anything.

We got chased by a bear at Mount Rainier. We came upon him scratching his back against a tree and when he saw us he dropped and began chasing us. We ran for our lives! I have been along time associated with wildlife and the woods for many years. I get the last guy that said that he knew how to handle himself with bears, was lunch.I will agree with you on that I too would rather deal with animals than humans.

Love bears so much, have been on trips to Kamchatka, Svalbard and Romania to see them properly in their natural habitat (am from the uk where unfortunately we wiped them off our island a couple hundred years ago) and they have been by far my best trips highly recommend svalbard and Kamchatka to anyone they are the definition of the beauty of nature.
I live in SE Idaho, and I ride my quad all over, BUT, I do not ride around Island Park!!! That belongs to the Grizzlies. I have seen 1 Black Bear. It was cool to see that Black Bear. It was only the second one that I have ever seen in the wild. The first one was 50 years ago when I worked for Weyerhaeuser. I do not have an issue with Black Bears. I mean, I won't go out of my way to make one mad, but Black Bears are usually mild tempered toward humans. Not so with the Grizzlies. They kill people all the time. Something that I have always wondered, is, that as I have ridden my dirt bikes and quads for thousands of miles in the mountains and deserts, how many times have I been watched by a Cougar. I will bet at least hundreds. They are a typical cat. They get someplace high and just watch. You won't see them. but rest assured, they will see you!
My Daddy told us stories about being on a Ranch & looking for Calves on Horseback. He said he was riding down through a Canyon & the hairs on the back of his neck stood up. He felt like somethin’ was watching him. The feeling persisted. He stopped for the night & started making a Campfire. That’s when he heard the blood curdling Mountain Lion squall. My Daddy said after he heard that.. he practically slept with one Eye open throughout the night!
@@jeridiahwatson3718 No doubt!! The big cats don't usually attack humans. The key word here is "usually". In the early 70s a friend of mine was bow hunting deer. There was about 2 inches of snow on the ground. perfect for tracking deer. He saw no deer tracks, but he did see some cougar tracks, so he started to follow them. After a bit, he came upon HIS tracks. The cougar was now tracking him. He said that he went back to the truck. LOL
Thank you so much for explaining every clip before showing it, I'm extremely simple minded and would not have understood anything I watched had you not gone into excruciating detail on what I was being shown.
Don't know how the man in the first story remained so calm all while walking backwards quickly. I would have been screaming for help even though they say not to. Scary stuff. I love camping but don't know if I will ever be able to stay overnight in the woods ever again.
The bear up the tree is used to being there, the man wisely stayed still and calm. The bear might have been trying to escape something on the ground. I have a lot of sympathy for the bears who experience hyperphagia leading up to hibernation, they are never satiated.
When in bear country you just might be sure to have a bull horn. the loudest one you can afford. It just might come in handy if a bear comes a calli8ng. If the bear gets within 10 feet of your truck it might be time to give it a blast. Even if all you can afford is a can air horn it's better than nothing. Just don't use up all the air scaring the crap out of each other when one of group is setting in the outhouse a bit to long... LOL.. That's why we bought a couple extra cans of air. We loved just scaring the crap out of each other. Yes meddle age men still act like teenagers after hunting hours... LOL
The guy in the first video should have gotten off the trail and allowed the bears to pass. You can tell by the mother’s actions she had no interest in him. Bears will walk on hiking trails because it’s easier than walking through the brush.
I went to Katmai last year and they specifically tell you to verbally tell the bear you are there so they don't get startled, then get out of the bears path and walk up into the vegetation...
So sad that habitat loss has these beautiful creatures trying to scratch out their survival in humans garbage bins and homes. It can only end In tragedy one day. ( usually for the bear)

Why would the person in the last video have their windows open!? I would have the car buttoned up and honk the horn to scare the bear off. Or would honking the horn make it angry?
Bears are beautiful creatures. Mama bear is always going to be protective of her Cubs. I do like the sirens to scare them off because it's a humane way to scare them off.
- there is a well known book about beekeeping by a guy named John Adams - in the section about problems one might encounter in beekeeping and how to solve them, there is a chapter on "BEARS" - when you get to it, it says: "Pray you don't have bears" and moves to the next chapter.
Not sure how many people have encountered a bear in the wild. Its pretty interesting. If you see it in a zoo, its fun. In the wild, there is no protection or wall for you. There is nothing protecting you. You are COMPLETELY on your own with only strength, speed and creativity (or problem solving abilities) on your side.
@@Dakingsnake I should have worded my comment better. Speed/strength combined with creativity might help you think of something quick, like climbing tree (which would help you escape from a grizzly but not a brown bear) or go down hill if there is lower ground (since bears are slow going down hill). But ya, if you don't have a gun or bear spray and there's no tree or lower ground, you might be at the mercy of the bear.
There is no way to outrun a bear either downhill or uphill. They are incredibly agile. Don't be out anywhere that you could possibly encounter any bear and not have either a large caliber gun with a multiple-shot clip or magazine. Bear spray and or bear bangers.
I did but in the City. But it's was more rural part of the city with railroad and cows. One time biking alone and saw one came out on the road i turned around and biked back and it turned around and ran back. I stopped and waited to see if it will come out it did and ran across the road. Then I kept on biking cautiously
The question isn't why would anyone walk alone in grizzly territory because the answer is obvious - it is stunning landscape. The question is why would anyone walk there unequipped to deal with an encounter. The people in these videos must have been carrying either guns or strong repellent spray
I had close to the same situation at Brooks lodge walking from our camp to the lodge for breakfast fortunately was able to detour down to the lake and around mama and her cubs, fortunately the cubs were not interested in me like in this situation, The adrenaline rush is unreal

Agreed. Mom was completely relaxed, just strolling down the trail because it takes less effort than the underbrush (even looking away from him entirely a few times). Cubs were playful and relaxed. I think if he had startled the cubs or if the curious cubs had gotten much closer that could have changed quickly. Very lucky!

That's difficult to walk backward while you are frightened by an animal of this size. I would of probably fallen. I remember being follow as a teenager by a German Shepherd and I walked backward and youth kept me agile enough to not tired or fall. Eventually a guy saw me and was able to distract the dog.
@@desisears6608 How'd you get away? what position you in when dog mauling? what were you doing?
@@Mr.Goodkat I was around 10 years old and I was walking the next street over to my house. When I was walking I saw a big dog ahead in the distance sitting in a drive way. I stopped for a second, but continued to walk when I noticed a chain on the dogs collar. Then the dog stood up upon noticing me and the chain dangled, but didn’t touch the floor. I slowly turned around to head back to my house and the dog was already chasing me, I could hear his nails skidding on the road. I Ofcourse started to run because I was afraid, young, alone, and never experienced this before. He bit my foot which made me fall belly face down. He then began to maul my back and butt and I just laid there completely still not fighting it. I couldn’t feel the pain from the adrenaline and my fear kept me frozen solid.
The bear rummaging around for pizza actually had a timeshare. It was just that he was there at the wrong time.
I love that that hunter didn’t shoot the bear in fear he just let him sniff and move on. That guy is awesome
Black bears are generally harmless to us. They're more afraid of us.
That first video, OMG I was even feeling the adrenaline 😳
The Mama seemed to be trying to go slow and let the human get out of there, luckily, but the babies! They just keep going! You know that Mama, even if she is usually gentle, will 100% kill the human to protect her babies!
That had to be the longest couple minutes of that guys life!!!
That first mama bear was MASSIVE, but if she wanted to hurt him he would have been hurt. They just happen to be walking down the path, and he did the right thing by not running.

Love how the bear was trying to get out then got confused when the door kept shutting.
If you can watch that first segment with the mama and cubs without getting anxiety, you are a better man than me. That was pretty terrifying. My instincts were telling me to go off the trail but I`m not so sure that would have been a good idea. He survived, so he did good. Maybe I wouldn`t have, not sure?

It was anxiety inducing and I thought the same thing why didn't he go off the trail and let them pass but they might have followed as well. He admitted the trail lead back to camp where I'm guessing his Friends were
I was thinking the same thing. Maybe he thought that any movement could've stressed Mama out. She seemed pretty relax. I'd love a wildlife expert to explain why this Mama remained so relaxed, even when the cubs started getting closer. Their innocent curiosity could've gotten this guy eaten 😂🐻
very quickly I thought the thing to do was go off the trail and walk away at a 90° angle - hopefully the bears will just keep going on their way ON the trail - I have been around black bears in Vermont and Grizzlies in Alaska
We were hiking in Sequoia national park once and came across a mama bear and her three cubs. There was no one around but us and we had backpacks with food inside. We just calmly sat down and remained very still until they walked away. They saw us but luckily stayed away. It was an exhilarating moment to be sure.
I feel the same when I'm around bees/wasps/hornets lol.

“5 Unexpected Bear Encounters Caught On Camera”
And how many were not on camera? Because that title gives me shivers.
For every event caught on camera, there are tons more that aren't (for one reason or another)
living in the woods its a part of daily life, more people attacking other people then bears do,
more than you realize. and many of those are fatal
Have you seen the video of the enormous Grizzly Bear that just moseyed up to a guy fishing and sat down right next to him like, "What's up? Nice day, huh?"😂 It's awesome. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/AiivKNVU8P4/видео.html
@@BostonAmy sure is, wow, that bear acted the same as my german shepherd would, is even looking bored and jawening ?
I live in bear country and if you see one in the wild they are impressive to say the least. Their power is legendary and their speed is terrifying.
The man in the first video should have walked off the trail while keeping his eyes on him. Obviously the mother wasn't hungry and didn't think him a threat.
And the two idiots in the truck are totally morons. To keep your windows open was foolhardy at best. That bear could have leapt into the window and attacked them before they could have reacted. Then they would have been in a confined space with an angry ball of teeth and claws.
Yeah if I were in that situation I would have closed the windows and honk the horn to try to scare them
What kind of person leaves leftover pizza laying around on the floor?!!! I bet if this is the norm at that house that bear isn't the only unwelcome intruder. Can you say ROACHES ....
This should have been titled "What to do if you want to be attacked by a bear". With the exception of the guy sitting in the tree, they are all lucky to be alive.
hahaha
What did the first guy do that was wrong? He handled the situation properly.
The first guy didn't do anything wrong either.
The mistake the first guy made was he stayed on the trail. The bears were simply taking the easiest path through the woods. That sow had probably walked that trail hundreds of times. Had he gotten off the path, they would have walked right on by.
@@edledoux2788 Seems he's the only person in the world that couldn't figure that out.

That mom wasn't stalking the man, she was just walking the trail with her cubs and knew he wasn't a threat. He did exactly what he should have and got himself to safety. Chances are, if he just stepped off the trail, they would have passed him.

That sounds scary. But most likely he was just too lazy to catch his own fish and wanted yours. Lol. Glad yal werent hurt tho.
You must be a old person to remember that 😂😂😂😄🤣

I am glad that you know the area and the history of these bears, but it doesn't matter how well the bears are used to humans, they are still wild animals and are unpredictable.

Living up at Tahoe we had a bear break into our house one night. He completely ransacked the fridge and destroyed the kitchen. We slept through the whole thing. Also had a bear break into our car to get an apple while parked in the driveway. Was backpacking at Yosemite. You don’t walk away from a brown bear. He got very lucky.
Running backwards? You should do the same. Not with your back to the bear that's true.

LOL
In bear country, you should have bear spray and walk loudly.
I absolutely loved watching the bear figure out the door in #2. They're so smart!
Those little cubs are just so curious.
Love the bear that climbed up & smelled the guy! Good thing that guy stayed calm!

Alaska + canada are the worst areas you’d wanna walk around without a bear horn
Why would the person in the last video have their windows open!? I would have the car buttoned up and honk the horn to scare the bear off. Or would honking the horn make it angry?
he stopped his vehicle and parked to let the bear approach and check it out, thats why lol
Bears are beautiful creatures. Mama bear is always going to be protective of her Cubs. I do like the sirens to scare them off because it's a humane way to scare them off.
Terrifying! I’m scared watching these bears following him!
- there is a well known book about beekeeping by a guy named John Adams - in the section about problems one might encounter in beekeeping and how to solve them, there is a chapter on "BEARS" - when you get to it, it says: "Pray you don't have bears" and moves to the next chapter.
LOL
😂
Not sure how many people have encountered a bear in the wild. Its pretty interesting. If you see it in a zoo, its fun. In the wild, there is no protection or wall for you. There is nothing protecting you. You are COMPLETELY on your own with only strength, speed and creativity (or problem solving abilities) on your side.
Lol. Did u seriously say strength and speed? Neither of which help u in any capacity when confronted by a bear.
I was thinking ... you better hope another bear doesn't come down the trail in the opposite direction, pinning you between bears.
worst luck in the world
These five videos are interesting, terrifying and, *bear* with me, awesome.
Why would anyone go waking (alone especially) on trails in grizzly territory?
The question isn't why would anyone walk alone in grizzly territory because the answer is obvious - it is stunning landscape. The question is why would anyone walk there unequipped to deal with an encounter. The people in these videos must have been carrying either guns or strong repellent spray
@jackbicknell4711 maybe the lader I doubt the former. I'm sure it's beautiful. There's a lot of beautiful safer places to explore.
