But they are so dhumb, especially treating LGBT characters, they'd be thinking Gay people comes with a set status quo or set personality and agenda when in reality gay people just want to live their life like any other people do. And then they used LGBTQ community as a shield to promote their dhum agendas is just really stupid

Its ironic how the LGBT community is often hella Bi and Ace phobic.
Often they dont even think we face discrimination.
However, i don’t like the video guy’s opinion on trans people. Im personally not interrested in the combination of woman with penis so i totally get not being attracted to trans people, plus they come with other things such as, having to take hormones, possibly needing extra emotional support cause of dysphoria, obvious infertility. Stigma for dating a trans woman, being seen as gay (as a man) if you do.
But i feel its unfair to describe trans women as “men masqerading as women”

Small Correction: Maeve's girlfriend in the show explicitly states that Maeve is Bisexual but it's Vought that decides to "make it more cut and dry and just make her gay"
Hell,in season 3 she sleeps with a prominent male Character so it's not going against her Character,it's commenting on how her Sexuality is being used to market to a community just for more dollar bills for the company Shareholders.
I brought this up on a video talking about the new Justice League and how I don't like the new interpretation of Kaldur aka Aqualad and my main issue starts from the fact that this Character started out as a black hero on Young Justice who not only was introduced with having a female Love interest but also was a great Leader.
Then post season 3 and the only identification this Character has is being "Bisexual" with his boyfriend.
It feels a little weird growing up as a fan of this Character when he was just an unknown black Hero, but now he's in the Justice League and he's getting a Charlize Theron produced film, but only if he's Bisexual and is only seen with a Boyfriend.

There are so many people and so many cultures around the world where if you were to come out as gay, you can be ridiculed, shunned, and even killed over something as dumb as preferring someone of the same sex. So many people have been kicked out of their families simply because of being different. These parades exist to show that there ARE people that will love and accept you for who you are and there is nothing wrong with being gay, even if your culture says otherwise or where you come from says otherwise.

This trope killed Harley Quinn. The character, unless she's presented in her classic mold, is no longer interesting. Her book doesn't sell, movies centered around her fail, the crazed twitter junkies have taken a character that had a fair amount of goodwill, and made her radioactive. If it wasn't for race swapping, the sexuality swap would be my most hated gimmick. Aside from being gross, lazy behavior, not creative, at all, it starts the conversation, the "us vs them" narrative, and for that, anyone who brings this into the writers' room should be shown the door, immediately.

Create a character whose very antisocial, but everybody likes them maybe bc they’re talented or rich , and because of that they don’t know how to interact with people they like and form meaningful relationships.
Then you have a character whose very extroverted and nobody really dislikes them but nobody actually wants to be around them.
These two characters have a sort of dynamic.
The second character can teach the first character to express themselves more, maybe show them how to socialise and interact better. As a result they grow to like the second character and want to be around them more.
This as a result means the first character gets something they always wanted and both of them get a meaningful relationship with one another.
However, nobody fucking does this. In every gay relationship the two characters just like each other inexplicably for the sake of a relationship existing and their whole dynamic is that they’re both gay. It’s extremely boring character relations.

    • @masido443

To be fair, they're some gay relationships that a little bit more than that but overall they just do a big spin before getting there ("scheme" of a gay romance). Like, characters are struggling whole season but the audience ultimately knows that they will end up together for various reasons.

Or make them normal people and don't focus on the gay aspect of them. You can also show their relationship can go sour instead of being perfect. Charlie from Hazbin Hotel fits the former. Great character, gay, but not center stage musical gay.

Agree. Why does it have to be so difficult?
I have a test personnally: "If the romance doesn't exist, what remain of your character and their purpose". Unless the answer is "most of it" for BOTH, it needs rework.

re: Iceman, and more broadly the argument of "just don't have him date anyone". it is very common for gay people, especially gay men to date women while closeted and often but not always the other person knows. it's why we use the term beard. when you're not out you often feel like you have to do certain things to "keep up appearances"; to say nothing of the fact that sexuality is fluid; not everyone knows what they are into immediately, and as we grow we can often realize things about ourselves.
a more specifically comic book point though: it's unrealistic given the medium to expect a character to never change. the best way to look at it in my opinion is this: every run is a reboot. whenever a new creative team takes on a title it's as if everything else never happened unless they want to use it moving forward.

Like I'm assuming the parade argument comes down to the fact that LGBTQ members were discriminated against a lot before, and to some extent still is, while that doesn't really happen to straight people.
I believe everyone should be allowed to have pride about their sexuality, but when straight people hold parades for them being straight it looks more like a mockery towards the LGBTQ parades.
Not saying what I'm saying is a fact, that's just my guess.
I think it's kinda like how there's a huge dedication to making African Americans feel seen and respected, but if an all white group demands a month for themselves, it's obviously gonna draw some comparisons to certain white supremacist groups

THANK YOU!! I can't express how happy I am you called out their BS. This is something I've noticed about these people is that they are incredibly toxic and close-minded. They would bash a character they like's hetero love interest, and would look for any excuse on Earth to bash that character and will not admit they are wrong. It is also a garbage logic that just because you read a character as gay, straight, or bi and use that as means to say that this character is queer when it's just what your getting out of it. And when you say that as undisputable proof then it makes you come across as a self-entitled jackass. Now I wanted to talk about what I have personally seen if people are willing to listen.
Now look, I personally don't like Tim and Steph because of how the relationship itself turned out in post-crisis (with Bruce's manipulation, Tim's absent attitude, and that he was already in a relationship when he kissed Steph) but despite that, the way these people treat Steph as the abusive stalker baffles me when Tim did not treat Steph fairly at all; and despite this TimKon shippers would bash Steph over and over again when she was the mistreated one in the relationship and was the one who realized this near the end of post-crisis when she rejected Tim.
I also like that you emphasize that not all queer folk are bad, and I know that gay people can be really good people and fun to hangout with. I agree that these select few of them are hypocritical. When I called out a guy on Tumblr for being a dick. He called me a homophobe for no reason other then I was defending a straight ship and telling him about his terrible attitude. When I criticized the problems with his gay ships, he said straight people don't know/don't have a right to criticize their pairings. THEN WHAT RIGHT DO YOU PEOPLE HAVE!?
Thank you for listening to my ted rant, have a nice day.

Not gonna lie, that intro is fucking amazing. Who knew that a movie about a raging berserk monster of madness destroying everything on screen would be the perfect representation of today's subject. As for the hypocrisy of the alphabet, Dave Chappelle said it best with his Daphne Dorman part on the Closer stand-up a few weeks ago.
They made poor Jon gay as well. It just never ends.
As for Maggie from Supergirl, she was supposed to be "Not Renee Montoya / Female Question" but they didn't have the rights. The Queen Maeve shit is also dumb as fuck. If the show went the extra dark route of her being a lesbian due to the other heroes running a train on her, as they did with Starlight in the comics, that would be something to explore. Instead it's woke points. It could have been an interesting change from the comics since they changed so much to be more contemporary.
Oh the reason Kitty is bisexual is because Bendis loves bisexual jewish women. I'm sorry I'm not making this up. It's also why he had Bobby Drake come out of the closet the moment he got the title because Bobby dared to be with his waifu. I'm sorry but I'm also not making this up. It just shows the sad reality of comics these days, where fanboys and sick shippers get to essentially control the characters that have been loved by generations. Oh and remember : apparently Iceman was so super Giga-Gay that Northstar's famous gaydar couldn't even detect him because he was so gay, so gayer than Northstar, that Northstar only saw him as straight. I'm also not making this up, they literally used this excuse in the comics to justify why Iceman never got it on with Northstar despite the latter expressing his love for Bobby many, many times in the past.
Also, try using that Geas of yours my guy, the title of Emperor doesn't mean much nowadays 😸

    A couple comments
Pride parades: I agree that in a lot of ways, pride parades are mostly for show and don't actually get anything done, but equating a straight parade to a pride parade is dumb. The reason pride parades exist is because being gay is not actually socially ok yet. Yes, there are probably millions of people that accept gay, bi, ace, etc. Sexualities, but it takes one bigot with a gun to ruin any kind of protection. Straight parades are intentionally poking at the "imbalanced" social acceptance of being gay versus being straight. On that topic:
Super straight: I find this whole ordeal genuinely funny, because when I first heard about it, it was through a meme and I thought it was a joke, but now I know it's real, and incredibly stupid. The literal intention was petty "revenge" and does not deserve to be acknowledged. No, this does not mean you can't be heterosexual and not acknowledge trans folk. That's your sexuality, and thus your prerogative, but saying people are angry because of your sexuality being super straight is making a mountain out of an anthill. Also I've heard the term super straight has ties to the SS, which is the abbreviation for the Nazi army, although I have no idea if that's true or speculation.
"Coming out of the closet" metaphor: again, I agree that there's a lot of double standards here, but again I think it's justified. For hundreds of years, and in well over half the world in current day, you could get tortured, psychologically harmed, removed from social groups (families, religious outlets, etc.) Because of your sexuality. The reason the coming out of the closet is so important for quiltbag folks is because you are essentially saying "I have been hiding, but I trust [people I'm talking to] enough to talk about my sexuality." You will never be hurt for saying you're hetero (unless the people around you are so far left that they feel it's bad, but that is a very small minority).
Ice man's "why don't you date a guy" situation: this is a lot more nuanced than you think irl. Yes, the comics are absolutely using tokenization and I'm not even going to try to deny that, but irl have you noticed how quickly it seems people come out as gay? This also applies to supergirl's sister. She mentions she never felt right when dating guys, and felt better when hanging around other girls.
While not expressly stated in Iceman's case, this feels like the same situation. A gay person can go years, even decades, without realizing they're gay because of so, so, so many factors around them. Societal pressure, religion, the people they surround themselves with, the media they consume, etc. A perfect example is MrBeast's friend coming out as trans pretty recently. They had a wife and children before they came to terms with their gender; that wasn't an overnight thing, that was years in the making, and they probably won't entirely accept the transition until years after because of all the backlash and comments people have been making online.

I haven't watched all of Supergirl but I watched the first two or three seasons and I thought them making Maggie gay was so stupid just because it felt shoehorned. There was never any hint or indication that she was gay, (her love life was largely ignored in the first season) except that they set up a potential future romance between her and Maxwell Lord in the first season. The gay thing seemed to come out of nowhere even though it was vaguely hinted in the first season that she had feelings for men (if they'd done the whole bad guy falls in love with the good guy thing it still would have been stupid but still). It's clear that the writers at CW don't know what they're doing, fighting each other and changing characters, story arcs and plots from season to season to fit whatever narrative they're trying to spin. Tokenization in this regard is a symptom, not the primary problem. The primary problem with CW, and modern comics and movies is that most big businesses feel as though they don't need to shell out top dollar for passionate and experienced writers who know how to write good characters, dialogue or stories. So they hand off the work to amateurs for political reasons (I assume companies like Marvel feel like they can accept the economic hole left by bad comic runs because they make so much in returns from the movies and merchandise), selling shows, games and comics etc. on name recognition alone because the franchises are "too big to fail".
I know good writing is still possible with the write team and vision. I was blown away by the Netflix series "Mindhunters" which has an excellent cast, story, acting and most importantly, dialogue. Honestly I was blown away by how good the dialogue is. I don't think there's a wasted piece of spoken word in that show. That show opened my eyes to how bad dialogue and conversation has become in a lot of entertainment. Contrary to what some people think, I don't believe that the western entertainment industry is devoid of writing and directing talent. I just think a lot of the best in the industry aren't getting the spotlight they deserve because companies don't see the need for it. Thus you get shows written by hacks who fill them with bad jokes, political messaging as subtle as a trainwreck and tokenism to "appeal to wider demographics".

This, all of this. Regardless of one's thoughts or feelings about gay marriage, homosexuality, or anything else, gay people exist and are therefore valid subject matter for storytelling, but I absolutely despise the gaywashing that happens in entertainment with established properties today. It's like the second that someone gets gaywashed, they almost always cease to be a three-dimensional character. Their entire personality suddenly gets reduced to "look how gay I am! Aren't I so gay? All of my thoughts, actions, and problems in my super gay life are about how gay I am! Everything in my entire life revolves around who I want to sleep with!" Don't even get me started on the disingenuous way people "respect continuity" by acknowledging their past straight relationships while trying to sell us on the idea that they just decided they also swing both ways all of a sudden by making characters bisexual. Like you said, that tracks a lot more with women because unlike men, women are a lot less rigid in their sexuality, but in almost every case in which it's done, it's done just about as horribly done as plain old gaywashing. Make your own dang characters and put in the work to make them popular on their own merits, dangit! (God forbid, they do it because they think it'll automatically gain them the established audience and pre-existing popularity when tokenization only kills both). One thing I can think of actually handles gay characters very well of the top of my head is The Walking Dead. Eric is a bit of a stereotypical "gay romantic partner" archetype since he has such little character beyond his relationship to Aaron, but Aaron himself is actually a legit, well-rounded and likable character with fleshed out desires, fears, virtues, flaws, and motivations, and he even has a completely platonic friendship with Daryl through their shared motivations and shared personality traits. Terra's the same way too, a perfectly well-rounded, relatable, and believable character, and she was basically established as unambiguously gay from the get-go, too. As much as I generally hate race swapping since it's equally as arbitrary and done for nothing other than cheap brownie points with people who usually aren't even fans of the original material anyway, gaywashing might actually be worse imo because of how in your face annoying it is...

To answer your question at the end I feel your a little of both. You made some good points about how disappointing representation on the subject can be. But your assumption about gay peoples experience and their motivation is honestly tone deaf and at times disrespectful.
I think that it is not appropriate to define someone's experience/motivations when you are not a member of this group. for example, it is completely inappropriate for me to make assumptions of what it is like to give birth, because i will never know because it is beyond the realm of my experience. i can understand what it is like to be marginalized like a minority, but only within the limits of my sexuality.
A good example is when you were about talking about the show supergirl and Alex’s coming out plot line. You made it seem like because it was 2016 that coming out should be easy unless you come from a strict household or a super religious and conservative family. Not understanding even if you have supportive family, friends in your life it doesn’t guarantee it will be easy. Everyone deals with it in a certain way.
When and how someone comes out is a very individual and personal decision. And to have a straight person talk about how easy anything is for a gay person is short sighted and disrespectful.
what you doesn't appear to realize is that you can't understand the topic. Like your comment on the gay pride parade being stupid. I mean your entitled to your opinion and I’m sure their are lgbt people who might feel the same. But to me you don’t seem like you understand the events historical importance. I mean I won’t pretend like I do either but I can at least see why it’s important for many. Especially since it was started in a time where being gay was practically a death sentence.
So while it may seem hypocritically to reject the existence of straight pride, what you fail to realize it's just an example of privilege. You can't understand the importance and celebration of representation because it has never been an issue that has affected you personally. i mean i know words like "privilege" and "phobia" are often overused or misappropriated, but they still have meaning despite that.

Yeah he does sound really disrespectful when talking about the whole supergirl show and it heing 2016. Also the gay pride parade, like dude come on, yes it is celebrity our sexually and how proud and happy we are to be out, but to get to that point the LGBT community went through some horrible shit. Being killed for just who we love and disowned.

What do you think about Constantine? He is Bi, mostly with women, but has the occasional man, god, demon, or Kingshark

Ok, to be fair, Super Straight was really meant to try to get the same level of treatment as the LGTBQ+ community

Before i saw Luca i was told that the main character and his friend are gay and i was like okay I'll check it out. After i watched the movie I'm convinced people never had any friends when they were kids. The things they do in the movie is typical kids being friends stuff nothing gay there. Just because 2 characters in a movie are acting really kind with eachother doesn't mean they're in a relationship or will be my point is amplified when talking about kids because they're kids not understanding what sex is and just having fun. It really pisses me off when people ship kids in shows because they're kids

Pride used to have a point. It was a protest of institutional homophobia...
Now... It's Rio De Janeiro Carnaval.
Basically for Straight people to feel tolerant and accepting (Superior) & get laid. And for Non Cis-Straights to be clowns.
I been only to about two or three.
And every time got more pissed off.
    Not thanks.
I'm cis, gay & and married.

This I concur. It's seems that "Pride" nowadays is just a way for people to feel superior above all else. Gay, Straight or otherwise

now people have always told me my intelligence is so low it's off the charts however I am going to change the minds and enlighten every person who shall dare to read this.
if character A and character B (male and female) are developed in a compelling and believable way it makes a romance between the 2 not seem forced or fake. that's how literature works. it is absolutely unfathomable to me as to why studios cannot comprehend this and simply do the same for same-sex characters and instead decide to shoehorn the "gay" part into already existing character causing the quality of writing to instantly take a nosedive because of this glaring flaw it has. the morale of the story MAKE NEW CHARACTERS AND DEVELOP THEN SAME AS ANY OTHER CHARACTERS THEN IF U CHOSE TO ROMANCE THEM IT won't SEEM/FEEL FORCED AND ULTIMATELY FLAWED.

I think Harley should stay in the suicide squad but Harley and Ivy being an item is something I’m fine with
Tim Drake and Superboy is the only way Tim could even be Bi he hasn’t shown any other interest in males honestly I kinda want to see Tim and Stephanie stay together then get married

Hal: Barry you got something on your nose.

You know the only original character who is gay character that was written with actual respect and good character was Miguel Montez from Dial H from Hero. (Miguel could be Bisexual Summer’s counterpart, Lobo kick girl calls Miguel’s counterpart, Miguel the street her Boo, but Original Miguel and Summer are just friends, completely platonic)

There are some cool LGBT characters out there like Miguel Montez and if a character have legitimate subtext of being or wanting to be gay that is perfect fine but characters can't just be gay of representation only
