    @The80shilling Trust me when I say that you do NOT want to hit every apex on the Nordschleife on a motorcycle. There are plenty of places where the perfect turn-in or apex is just not possible due to a bump or depression.

    I didn't write that a fast bike to lap the Ring needed more powerful race brakes. Excellent brakes to me means fade free, good feel, powerful and a good balance between front and rear. These characteristics exist on most stock performance bikes but many benefit from change in pad material and change of fluid type. Some bikes don't need to be touched but others need a bit of tweaking. Important to get the suspension settings right ride the bumps under power and be stable under braking.

    I liked how the three other bikers went almost at the same speed as he did. What is the frame in the lower right supposed to show? I'd have liked a rear view too, some guys seemed really unaware of the fast bike approaching which is why he chose to overtake on the right side sometimes, strictly prohibited usually...

    • @AaronCsc
      @AaronCsc 8 лет назад

      Not a fan at all, but at the same time I don't hate it. I used to like bikes, but since I moved to NYC, I don't need transportation anymore. First, even with a bike it doesn't mean you'll beat the traffic here. Lanes are not as wide as you think, plus the freeways are extremely bumpy and poorly maintained. Second the weather for the most times of the year here just isn't suitable for that. It's just either too hot or too cold. I'd just rent a car for $20-30 a day whenever I need to travel out.

    We don't disagree. As stock Aprilia seem to have it best for me, I like the feel. Yamaha are very good, but changing the pads can improve things. The above runs Bendix pads, great power, feel and warm up and heat retention. MRR is a bit full on, but MRC is an excellent balance. Fliud is a tricky one, have used race fluids and they have given less feel to me. Now I might have imagined that, but I stand by it. That said I like longer travel levers on my brake systems. Will I see you at the track?

    What about when the motorway is jammed full of cars at peak hour. Slip past them on your bike! But yes, your point is very true. Its just that bikes accelerate alot faster than cars, sometimes that can give you an advantage.

    You are right; it takes massive balls and skill to ride a Motorcycle that hard. On a Motorcycle, you crash at those speeds in close proximity to those barriers and trees you probably die. Car? Airbags, body dings but you live.
    Comments: at least 20-30 seconds was wasted by being held up by traffic; The rider missed 60% of the Apexes in the corners and went wide a few times. With a better rider and a clearer track, I bet you could take 30+ seconds off that lap.

  • @winterstellar
    @winterstellar 12 лет назад

    I think I'd take a few, quite a few, test-rides before going flat out with a bike on Nordschleife.. A month in a coma and two years healing after a nasty bike-crash with ambulance helicopter to hospital and everything have made me like cars a lot better than bikes. The bike crash was a long time ago, but I'm still skeptical towards the two-wheelers..: )

    @2639263926392639 12 лет назад

    Rather accurate there fella. Only the brakes is a bit wide of the mark, stock systems are good enough, and often better than some race set ups due to initial bite in semi unstable conditions. Stable and anti wheelie is spot on though. 300 brake would be great fun, but it wouldn't be fast. Wrong environment. There are not many places people break a true 300kph on tracks... but maybe later this year.

  • @droceretik
    @droceretik 12 лет назад

    The issue is not top speed as the average for the best riders is about 160 kph. The bikes must be nimble and ride the bumps, have excellent brakes and be stable without tendency to wheelie. The circuit has a lot of slow-medium bends and undulations. The power of a 300+ hp turbo bike would be wasted in wheelies and would very difficult to ride quickly. Only a couple of places that more hp would be an advantage. He didn't use full throttle for much of the lap and mostly used 2nd to 4th gear.

      Exactly. Helmut Dahne did a 7 min 49 .71 or thereabouts in 1993 on a Honda 750 RC30 V4. It was a full lap. i think that lap was better than this seeing it was 50 hp down on this Yamaha. You can add about 20 seconds to the BTG lap compared to the full lap according to the experts.

  • @hennesseyzachary
    @hennesseyzachary 12 лет назад

    I would say not. The issue is, this rider knows his bike. Put on any of those bikes (amazing as they are) and after a year of it, he may start approaching this level again. The only thing I would like to see changed is for this guy to ride solo. I counted 3 times that he had to slow down because of people in front of him, I would love to see a run without any of that.

  • @KDD8
    @KDD8 12 лет назад

    how does he get such a fast lap with big balls of steel like that?

  • @2639263926392639
    @2639263926392639 12 лет назад

    @The80shilling Your the only other person to notice running wide. Fixing the suspension and some fresh tyres would go toward knocking some of that time off. Missing 60% of apex's though? Bit harsh. Does run wide a lot though, hence late on the throttle. I think 20-30 seconds faster is a very tall order, traffic or not.

    It's bridge to gantry as public access laps cannot be held over a full lap. "Record" laps quoted by car makers take place over the full lap over a closed circuit. This is estimated at adding 20 - 30 seconds to the lap. However, with lots of slow traffic it may increase lap times by as much as 30 seconds anyway. What was your lap time of Nurburgring?

    Because it is run on a course which is open to the public there is a chicane at the end of the straight to avoid sombody speeding with 300 into a lap starter.Therefore it is not possible to define a precise end of a lap, which led to BtG (Bridge to Gantry)-times who are starting at the audi-bridge and end at the scaffolding gantry.And a 7:26 BtG is frigging fast especially with that traffic.So do your home work first before you try to take away the mans thunder!

    P.S. I fthat lap was done on a Yamah R1 street Bike, then someone needs to do it on either a BMW 2012 S1000RR, an Aprilia RSV4 Factory, or the New Ducati 1199 Panigale Tricolore. I could see a sub 7 minute lap from a good rider who knows the Nurburgring on any one of those Bikes.

    Bit slow really isn't it... several incidents of running wide like at T13, or into Breidscheid particuarly. And Eiskurve)
    Starting out on tyres not fully warmed through (listen to the engine note before Hoheichen, after its revved much harder). And running something a bit stickier and fresh wouldn't be bad idea.
    Flugplatz isn't straight, and goes a bit unstable. Should have had throttle on earlier and harder, but the wiggle caused a delay. Less flying is better for the run to Schwedenkreuz.

    @mapko15 Would indeed be interesting. But I think no professional rider will risk his health to attempt a record lap on the Nürburgring. It's dangerous enough on 4 wheels; going full-out on 2 there is deadly. This rider sometimes had to keep a safety distance from the apex and probably couldn't fully lean into the curves because the road is so bumpy. I'm sure there are many potential optimizations, but taking them would be a huge risk.

So either the datarecording is not right or the bike is just a 600...
