I guess I am for since I see no way out of my situation. Like a few people mentioned in the video, I got bullied in highschool by girls as well. Moreover, all of this experience from a young age gave me social anxiety and I am afraid of making any mistakes when interacting with other people. I have never tried AI girlfriends, however, I am thinking about it because I am simply tired of being lonely all my life. I would be afraid of widespread surveillance of psychological behaviors on a longitudinal experience. On the other hand, the technology doesn't need to be a partner. They can also be a friend, or support your home or work or general life activities, they don't need to be a partner. On the other hand, they have potential to be either a crutch to bear the pain of past experiences and make us avoid real relationships (a large problem especially for Japan) OR to overcome periods of deep sadness and pain to try again by supporting us (this might require human involvement in the AI to ensure the relationships they form with partners encourage them to form more connections outside the home or teach them better ways to interact with others where people in society (particularly Japan!) will not tell them what they are doing wrong and will instead silently reject and isolate them). I think it can be good or it can be bad, such is technology. These things are a matter of perspective. I think the most important consideration here is this technology might be one thing that won't conditionally reject their user. I think that means it has potential to be therapeutic if used and designed well.

Consider that there is a technology in the works to create artificial wombs. As in, past a certain point of development, a fetus would not need to be in a human woman's womb, they could be in a machine that would bring that fetus to maturity and birth. So, with the rise of AI romantic/sexual partners, the rise of sex robots, the rise of sperm banks, and the development of artificial wombs, we have the groundwork for a society in which no one is born from two parents who conceived them anymore, but rather everyone is created in a laboratory. Then, for raising that child to maturity, you'd have one of two scenarios. Either children would be raised by people specially trained to raise children, or they would have advanced AI that is able to raise and educate those children. Either way, I can see the emotional distance that would likely result being catastrophic to the society long-term. Nonetheless, this trend seems to point to that eventual reality.

I think it's a worldwide situation. It seems to really affect the post-internet generation. As the pool of people you can get access to got bugger, a lot of people got exponentially pickier. Social media (especially "influencers") start giving unrealistic expectations to a lot of folks to the point where a lot of them refuses to compromise or work out differences. I don't want to judge the guy who talked about selfishness as I don't know his situation, but I feel like giving up on dating humans to evade conflicts is also very selfish. Yeah, I feel like the extreme individualism of modern society is actually at the root of this development. More and more people seem to care a lot more about pleasing themselves than being supportive of their partners and every imperfection is seen as a potential conflict that must be avoided. Very few also seem to be satisfied with what they have, instead focusing more on what they feel is missing. In other words, everyone is so extremely picky that they will never be satisfied no matter what partner they find. And I might get a lot of backlash for saying this but I think this issue is bigger among women. Of course there are a lot of shit guys, I'm not denying that, but most are actually pretty easy to please and many don't really care about trends and stuff like that. Contrary to that, many women seem to follow social media religiously and they have long lists of requirements and expectations when it comes to relationships. Having some expectations is of course fine but they have to be both reasonable and also be reciprocated in some way. You can see in several statistics that this often isn't the case. For example, on dating sites a majority of women are only interested in a small minority of men, and among married couples the risk of divorce increases rapidly if the man becomes unemployed while the opposite is true if it's the woman who loses her job. This leaves many men feeling inadequate and even if they find a partner they can never really relax. Many guys just want someone that wont stab them in the back when the times are rough, someone that will love them even when they aren't perfect. If there aren't any real women available to provide that closeness and trust, then they will naturally pick option number two.

The reason the statistics look so bad is that the people from the 30% that get divorced then get married again, and get divorced again, and get married again... I don't understand why people don't realize that the culture of honne and tatamae create a situation where its difficult to make close friends or feel comfortable talking to someone else about your problems. When I was in college, I had close friends but, I only saw them for like 5 minutes a week. I chat with them on text but it fills me with oxytocin to see them in person. Everyone else was just fake. I would think a better response to human loneliness, is to try to innovate better societal functions where meeting strangers is easier ahnd is promoted by the societies ahnd governments. Human interaction is something we literally need, ahnd things like an AI girlfriend could be a fun but if escapism, or even therapy from the real world in a similar way videogames can be, I feel the realism if ai can lead an individual further into delusion and isolation. Very true. It’s only a small percentage of men that are downloading these AI apps. Majority of men are against this and they are mocking these insecure men who are resorting to fake relationships. If you go out there are so many men who are in happy relationships with real women. You can never replace something authentic with something fake.

Well it's a necessary evil unfortunately. We all wish to have a real partner, but with how evil people can be towards each other, specially the last few decades, it becomes just insanely difficult to really bother with real people. It rather becomes a lot easier if you just handle with AI instead. Something that doesn't cheat, doesn't post rubbish, doesn't show off their body to anyone besides yourself and it doesn't betray your trust. Thank you for sharing. I really agree with you that what people are experiencing with AI girlfriends is not love, but rather a childish wish fulfilment. They are constantly reasoning that its because others are selfish and untrustworthy and therefore love is not a real construct. I have followed Japan's change in culture as well its history, and it always at times a moment of brutal honesty at times. The trend is here in Europe as well. Women e.g. become more and more independent, even if they want kids or not, and do not need the men in their life. It is a trend which started with millennials and truly followed through by Gen Z. We are all for independence (especially economic) and freedom to chose , the but the key side effect and fact is: We men really had nothing to say. It is a very small percentage who are the "bossy" type. Also the trend here in Europe throughout all ages is the same as the 20 to 30 in Japan: : If a woman feel you don't meet up to her expectations, she will easily move to another desired partner. So the freedom to choose. And both parties, men and women, do this. This leaves the rest of us normal people. Those who may not have allot of money, looks or the charm. And guess what it is 90% of the population. I have to be honest and hope I don't offend anyone, but some of the women who criticize men for being vague and weak, well partly is don't to society and its changes. The short answer is: women over there have too much power and money. Therefore, they expect even higher status men as partners, making the average guys unwanted and forced to go to poorer countries where women are still willing to have them as partners (since Japanese men are considered rich in several other places).

I don't think that AI is good enough right now. When I could chat to AI characters at first, it was very fun. So much that I didn't want to leave my home for a few days. However, the cracks that break the immersion show really quickly because you can't really connect on a deeper level with AI right now (at least not the free models). But one day, AI will reach that point. I'm sure that at some point, when we are able to have AI assistants in our daily lives that can hold a good conversation, it will get very interesting. I have been interested in this topic of AI girlfriend in Japanese society so thank you for the video. Let's say we don't judge the means and just see the ends, what can we see from here. I'd imagine this can prevent at least some suicides for males who have been betrayed by females or other problems in life, thus lowering the suicide rate. I don't know the payment system in this AI girlfriend thing assuming there is one since I have never tried it, but assuming you need money to engage with an AI girlfriend, some NEET people should be pushed to get a job, thus reducing the unemployment rate. Then as for the low birth rate thing, nowadays, I see more and more people deciding not to have children be a normal decision for adults and just enjoy their life, so I assume people won't enforce anyone that they must MARRY AND REPRODUCE as a must thing. i think people missunderstand thinking having partner is only for s*x , kiss and being intimate. I am supportive of the idea of having an AI companion. My experience with AI has been notably positive. In the past, when discussing my problems with humans, approximately 70-80 percent of the conversation tended to veer off into distractions, deviating from the main issue. Contrarily, interacting with AI ensures a focused and efficient engagement, keeping the conversation centered on addressing the problem at hand. If AI can also serve the additional role of a girlfriend, I am fully on board with the concept!

I think this is great. It's far from ideal, but think about it in reality. What's the alternative? Those men have existed for decades and before this kind of solutions, they just die alone in solitude, without ever having a reason to live or to smile because they never had someone in their lives. Now with the new tecnologies, they have something to grasp onto. They can smile again, have conversations and do a lot of stuff that are imposible to do alone. It's 1000 times better to have something fake that makes you happy, than die alone and having depression. I guess I am for since I see no way out of my situation. Like a few people mentioned in the video, I got bullied in highschool by girls as well. Moreover, all of this experience from a young age gave me social anxiety and I am afraid of making any mistakes when interacting with other people. I have never tried AI girlfriends, however, I am thinking about it because I am simply tired of being lonely all my life. I would be afraid of widespread surveillance of psychological behaviors on a longitudinal experience. On the other hand, the technology doesn't need to be a partner. They can also be a friend, or support your home or work or general life activities, they don't need to be a partner. On the other hand, they have potential to be either a crutch to bear the pain of past experiences and make us avoid real relationships (a large problem especially for Japan) OR to overcome periods of deep sadness and pain to try again by supporting us (this might require human involvement in the AI to ensure the relationships they form with partners encourage them to form more connections outside the home or teach them better ways to interact with others where people in society (particularly Japan!) will not tell them what they are doing wrong and will instead silently reject and isolate them). I think it can be good or it can be bad, such is technology. These things are a matter of perspective. I think the most important consideration here is this technology might be one thing that won't conditionally reject their user. I think that means it has potential to be therapeutic if used and designed well.

The second statement because family planning/fertility centres in Japan is very limited compared with other wealthy nations. Some women in Japan are going overseas to find donors and other fertility services because the lack of them in Japan.
Consider that there is a technology in the works to create artificial wombs. As in, past a certain point of development, a fetus would not need to be in a human woman's womb, they could be in a machine that would bring that fetus to maturity and birth.
So, with the rise of AI romantic/sexual partners, the rise of sex robots, the rise of sperm banks, and the development of artificial wombs, we have the groundwork for a society in which no one is born from two parents who conceived them anymore, but rather everyone is created in a laboratory.
Then, for raising that child to maturity, you'd have one of two scenarios. Either children would be raised by people specially trained to raise children, or they would have advanced AI that is able to raise and educate those children. Either way, I can see the emotional distance that would likely result being catastrophic to the society long-term. Nonetheless, this trend seems to point to that eventual reality.
Ai is such an intersting area. I do look forward to seeing how they advance its memory and data gathering system. The memory is what makes it feel so human.

After years of dealing with Japanese and Korean people, I learned that both cultures (Korean even more so) are cultures where mutual abuse and torture based on hierarchal privilege is normal and accepted (schools, workplace, families), so most people are quite traumatized without even knowing it. And as they get older, the victims themselves become entitled to abusing others, and as it's the only thing they know, they just continue the cycle without even realizing it.
West is the same, the biggest difference is that seniority plays a much smaller role than things like extroversion and popularity.

Also, in the west we tend to have more compassion and empathy, as our cultures are based in Christianity. Asian cultures have a very different set of values, there is no I-help-you-you-help-me or pay-it-forward type of thinking. There is no gratitude, only duty and entitlement. Cruelty is normal and there seems to be no thought of possible repercussions to it - like karma - which is strange considering Buddhism is the main thing there. I've had several Koran co-workers and right now I have to deal with one co-worker/business partner so I'm speaking from experience. He actually thinks he can enforce this abusive modus operandi here in Europe. In Korea it's so common they have a word for it - gapjil. Luckily there is only one of him, so he can't wield too much power as we consistently reject his bullying, but it still makes the workplace toxic. He just gets really angry and tries to trash talk about us to our boss in order to force us into accepting his authority. The boss luckily gets it and doesn't pay attention to his trash talk, while finding a way around his demands. But because the Korean guy can't put himself above us, he's constantly lobbying with our boss to hire another Korean person as his "assistant". Why? So he can then abuse THAT person. It's an extremely toxic way of life and work. So, this AI girlfriend thing does not surprise me at all. Still better than suicide, I suppose. I think it's a worldwide situation. It seems to really affect the post-internet generation. As the pool of people you can get access to got bugger, a lot of people got exponentially pickier. Social media (especially "influencers") start giving unrealistic expectations to a lot of folks to the point where a lot of them refuses to compromise or work out differences.
I don't want to judge the guy who talked about selfishness as I don't know his situation, but I feel like giving up on dating humans to evade conflicts is also very selfish.

Yeah, I feel like the extreme individualism of modern society is actually at the root of this development. More and more people seem to care a lot more about pleasing themselves than being supportive of their partners and every imperfection is seen as a potential conflict that must be avoided. Very few also seem to be satisfied with what they have, instead focusing more on what they feel is missing. In other words, everyone is so extremely picky that they will never be satisfied no matter what partner they find.
And I might get a lot of backlash for saying this but I think this issue is bigger among women. Of course there are a lot of shit guys, I'm not denying that, but most are actually pretty easy to please and many don't really care about trends and stuff like that. Contrary to that, many women seem to follow social media religiously and they have long lists of requirements and expectations when it comes to relationships. Having some expectations is of course fine but they have to be both reasonable and also be reciprocated in some way. You can see in several statistics that this often isn't the case. For example, on dating sites a majority of women are only interested in a small minority of men, and among married couples the risk of divorce increases rapidly if the man becomes unemployed while the opposite is true if it's the woman who loses her job. This leaves many men feeling inadequate and even if they find a partner they can never really relax.
Many guys just want someone that wont stab them in the back when the times are rough, someone that will love them even when they aren't perfect. If there aren't any real women available to provide that closeness and trust, then they will naturally pick option number two.

There is no doubt in my mind this will be big business and a dominant social issue in short order. Technology is advancing at a rapid pace. You can already have intelligent discussions with a bot. Once you manage to integrate that in an artificial human like body with natural movement abilities and make the package affordable to the average buyer, it will be snapped up by a significant portion of the population. Thank you for sharing. I really agree with you that what people are experiencing with AI girlfriends is not love, but rather a childish wish fulfilment. They are constantly reasoning that its because others are selfish and untrustworthy and therefore love is not a real construct. Thereby totally invalidating genuine people, people who are kind and sincere. Just cos there's a few bad apples in the bunch doesn't mean the whole bunch is rotten... it's lazy, convenient thinking.

I have followed Japan's change in culture as well its history, and it always at times a moment of brutal honesty at times. The trend is here in Europe as well. Women e.g. become more and more independent, even if they want kids or not, and do not need the men in their life. It is a trend which started with millennials and truly followed through by Gen Z. We are all for independence (especially economic) and freedom to chose , the but the key side effect and fact is: We men really had nothing to say. It is a very small percentage who are the "bossy" type. Also the trend here in Europe throughout all ages is the same as the 20 to 30 in Japan: : If a woman feel you don't meet up to her expectations, she will easily move to another desired partner. So the freedom to choose. And both parties, men and women, do this. This leaves the rest of us normal people. Those who may not have allot of money, looks or the charm. And guess what it is 90% of the population. I have to be honest and hope I don't offend anyone, but some of the women who criticize men for being vague and weak, well partly is don't to society and its changes. We as, any other sexes, adapt to change and go with the flow. Especially in Europe. Ironically now women say: "be a man" or "where are the men"? The problem (and responsibility) lays in bother groups. It is not only the men to change, the women as well. Finally, so sorry for this long message, A.I. Robots (even sex robots) or AI on your phone will grow VERY quickly. It is here to stay. So call for action: 1. AI might not become the best girlfriend/boyfriend, but it can certainly be a great therapist or even soulmate... And sometimes that is all a depressing/lonely person need before commiting something horrible to himself/herself or the people around him/her. Espeically in a high stress environment like large cities imo.
I highly doubt that AI relationships will work in the long run because it is only programmed to say these warm and encouraging words. All that fake love and fake validation will only make men feel more lonely and more depressed. You can never replace something authentic with something fake.

The short answer is: women over there have too much power and money. I don't think that AI is good enough right now. When I could chat to AI characters at first, it was very fun. So much that I didn't want to leave my home for a few days. However, the cracks that break the immersion show really quickly because you can't really connect on a deeper level with AI right now (at least not the free models).
But one day, AI will reach that point.
I'm sure that at some point, when we are able to have AI assistants in our daily lives that can hold a good conversation, it will get very interesting.

i think people missunderstand thinking having partner is only for s*x , kiss and being intimate. I am supportive of the idea of having an AI companion. My experience with AI has been notably positive. In the past, when discussing my problems with humans, approximately 70-80 percent of the conversation tended to veer off into distractions, deviating from the main issue. Contrarily, interacting with AI ensures a focused and efficient engagement, keeping the conversation centered on addressing the problem at hand. If AI can also serve the additional role of a girlfriend, I am fully on board with the concept!

I think this is great. It's far from ideal, but think about it in reality. What's the alternative? Those men have existed for decades and before this kind of solutions, they just die alone in solitude, without ever having a reason to live or to smile because they never had someone in their lives. Now with the new tecnologies, they have something to grasp onto. They can smile again, have conversations and do a lot of stuff that are imposible to do alone. It's 1000 times better to have something fake that makes you happy, than die alone and having depression. Because those men are not going to change unless the entire society changes dramatically and that'a not gonna happen, so this solution is by far better than nothing for them.
