My advice would be to talk about all of the amazing things life can bring, I think having a passion is part of that so you could also maybe ask about their hobbies or ask them to imagine what they would be experiencing in the most ideal version of their life, and to tell them that that is completely possible but first I would maybe start out with simple things that might seem silly like asking them to listen to their favorite song, or watch their favorite movie and ask them to describe it in as much detail as possible and what positive feeling that gave them, then remind them that life is full of moments like that and we're capable of creating and experiencing immense joy as much as we are capable of experiencing sadness and the more you invite joy in, in small moments, the more it accumulates and intensifies. My advice for men that have issues with women would be that they have to first love themselves, and also be a person that we can feel safe around, they can also find women that share common interests with them.
