- An unboxing and review of the Sea-Monkeys Circus tank from Moose Toys
The sea monkey circus was released in 1998. It's one of the rarest and most coveted kits from Transcience. In this video I give the history of Sea-Monkey Circus tanks such as the sea circus and light up sea circus kits.
I also give a tutorial for how to use the sea monkeys circus tank and use its built in aerator.

Hallelujah!!! Thank you, John. I’m THRILLED to finally get to see this in action. It looks even better with Sea-Monkeys® in it than it does siting on my shelf collecting dust. Really … THANK YOU for making this video so I could see this set with water and Sea-Monkeys® in it.
I completely 100% agree that a new Sea-Circus tank needs to be released. You know I’ve tried but, unfortunately, without any luck so far.
I think another reason for the curved shape of the tank was for stability. If it were straight across, it would be easier to tip over. I like the concept and the basic basic design, something very similar with a higher production value would make for a killer kit.
Thanks again. This has been a long time coming for both of us.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the video, Tod :) Thanks agin for lending me the tank, it was super fun testing it out and putting this video together. I think you’re definitely right about the stability thing; this tank does feel surprisingly sturdy considering it’s so narrow. Keeping my fingers crossed that we see an updated Circus tank sooner rather than later 🤞
Awesome I never knew that there's a circus tank I remember going to the circus as a kid
TOD! TOD! TOD! The mythical Tod. Thank you for sharing your collection, Tod; the community’s omniscient insider.

@@RoxanneLaWinSTABBY : Ha! It’s a great situation. I’ve done the work on building the collection and researching the topic and John has the skills and platform to reach a wide audience. It’s a win-win!!! ❤❤❤
Thanks for helping the channel reach 100k everyone 🙌 When I started this channel I never thought there would be so many people interested in watching videos about such a niche topic, so it’s been a wonderful surprise seeing such a large audience connect with the content over this last year. I really appreciate all of you for your support and for coming on this journey with me. I still feel like a bit of a novice when it comes to video production, but I’m working hard to continue improving with every upload. There’s an almost endless stream of videos to make on my to-do list this year, so I’m looking forward to sharing more with you all soon 🥳
love the videos and love the close up shots you get of the sea monkeys!
You made me very happy, John. 🤡🤡🤡 Like a kid at the circus.
I love the Sea Monkeys, but a big part of what makes the videos so enjoyable is all the effort, humour and love you put into them! Thanks for all the enjoyment you’ve given all 100k of us 🥳
@@Zveebo : I 100% agree. John's the right man for the (weird) job. Exceptional quality, thought, creativity and humor in John's videos ... on brine shrimp of all things! 👍👍👍
I gotta ask how does the giveaway work does he just send a email to the winner or what?
My 4-year-old son loves your videos and you inspired him to get his own sea monkeys. His colony is now 7 weeks old and he checks on them, aerates them and feeds them all on his own.
That’s so great to hear :) sounds like he’s doing a great job at caring for them
It’s amazing how much creativity sea monkeys brings out of the creators of these tanks! Such a cool and unique design 🎪
I've never thought about how sea monkeys are basically an aquatic form of ant farms, but that's so true!
right! it seems so obvious now 😂
Love your in depth reviews of all the different tank variations, it'd be super cool to see you design you're own sea monkey tank with all the knowledge you've gathered from testing these!
I’d love to do that! Would be super fun to collab with Transcience & Dragon-I on a Sea-Monkey tank design
Working on building absurd sea monkey tanks is a dream that I never thought I would have, but here I am! This video was so fun to watch!
I'd loooove to design an official tank too. So many possibilities with these little guys
i really love how mooses toys and the sea monkey community generally has designed this tank! i truly love its sleek and cool maybe abnormal size and curvey edges to project the sea monkeys better! i really love how much care you put into these videos aswell as the sea monkeys, thank you for showing this!
I could be biased haha, but I love Moose’s range of Sea Monkeys. So nostalgic!
I love the footage you took of the sea monkey going into the ring, it’s adorable!
I love the Moose stuff too! They were the first ones to release the Sea-Monkeys Mini World tanks, hopefully I can find them some day 🤞
I've been scouring for this tank for years, but you're so lucky to get your hands on one! It looks amazing and honestly, so cute and nostalgic!
It was really cool to finally have one of these to test out. I’ve still never seen one for sale 🥲
The projection on the wall is surprisingly clear! How fun. 🤗 I think the tank works pretty well for it being so narrow, but hopefully if they remake this, they make it a little bit wider to fit that mini heater. Thanks for another lovely video, John. :)
Sea monkeys are so nostalgic for me. Brings me back to doing them with my grandmother ❤
So cool! I have the 1988 one. The older one and newer one that you have here are both on my bucket list.
I loved your unboxing video on the Light Up Sea Circus kit! That was such a great find 👌
It's such a fun design, and I'd love to see a new take on the whole circus aesthetic! There's so much room for fun concepts and ideas with that! :) Wish the little ornaments at the bottom were a little more detailed, or had some variation in the colors, but other than that it's such a perfect tank! :D
Yeah I totally agree, though I get the feeling with a lot of these products that the emphasis is usually on keeping costs down. This tank is good fun but the quality is pretty poor
I haven’t tried sea monkeys since is was a child in the 1960’s. I wish I’d had the foresight to save that tank but who knew I’d want to try them again as a grown man lol. Have been really enjoying your videos. Thanks.
I think a lot of people feel this way 😅 I sure wish I kept my old tanks from when I was a kid too
Finally, i always saw the ad for it but never in real life
Was that the TV commercial? Brian from Moose mentioned something about one but I’ve never seen it before
The tank is so cute, but it seems like it would be sort of a nightmare to clean, especially with how the built in aerator is made, it seems like it would become overrun with algae and other gunk pretty quickly. Hope you had fun cleaning it out before sending it back to Todd! :) And congrats on 100k!!!!! Been around for ages lurking and so glad you're getting more attention for how much love and effort is put into your videos, you deserve it!
Yeah this would definitely be a pain to clean. Honestly I think the best way to use it is just to remove all of the tank decor and manual air pump and just use an electric air pump instead. And thanks! It’s wonderful watching this community grow 🙌
Congrats on your channel's success👏👏👏👏 I've always hatched artemia but never saw them in adult form and how gracious and amazing they truly are! Thank you for sharing your journey and videos with such an easily overlooked but fascinating sea creatures.
Thank you! Yeah I think a lot of people in the aquarium hobby overlook these guys. I’m glad this community has been growing though and more people are appreciating how beautiful they are :)
I would love to see more interesting tank shapes from Transcience in the future, there's so much they could do!
Oh trust me, I know 😅 I really wish they would bring out more tanks but as far as I know there’s not currently anything in the pipeline
I recently got into Sea Monkeys again after a long time because of your videos! The design of the Circus tank is really interesting - though a little clunky. It's fun to se these old toys start becoming more popular again :>
I miss my sea monkeys 😭 this circus display is quite an amazing addition to the sea monkey tank line!
Never owned any sea monkeys, but I love your content! It's so cool watching you give these old kits a new life.
Haha that’s cool! How’d you find the channel?
@@pico-cosmos Just got a recommendation one day, clicked on the vid, and I was hooked. There's just something about someone being so passionate about Sea Monkeys. Keep up the great work my guy!
😄 thanks!! 🙏
I loved sea monkeys as a kid and your channel has brought that passion right back! This circus tank seems so fun, but I agree with your cons list. Maybe the figurines could somehow be added to a traditional tank???
This is so cuteeee! I love how different it is. Personally I, too, enjoy the slim tank design
I think the tank design is creative and fun and hit helps show if they do interact with the activities
Paitence pays off nicely this week on me. Its always lovely to see a new upload of yours; and congrats on surpassing 100k!!!
The super flat design and built in areator are really cool!! Using the flat surface to project them on the wall was a really creative way to utilize it, too!
This is so much easier to view the sea monkeys than the other ones I've seen. I'd love to try modding it to make the inbuilt airation work in an more ideal way. Thank you for the video!
I thought it could be cool to hook up an electric air pump to the base. Haven’t figured out a way to do it yet though
That is the coolest tank I’ve ever seen! And it is unbelievable that you could get your hands on a tank so rare!
I remember seeing a low res pixelated photo of it online years ago and always wished a video like this existed. I love shining light on these little know products :)
Awesome Review and Thank you Tod Machin for giving Picocosmos the opportunity to share his experiences with us. Love the Sea- Monkey Circus ❤❤❤❤❤❤
John does the heavy lifting here. I just share items from my collection when there's something he needs. It's a great arrangement for both of us.
I'm jealous of how clear your water always is
I mostly feed them live-algae. It’s a game changer 👌
Me too, Scott. Mine look like a sewer but the Sea-Monkeys do well so I haven't messed with it.
This is an awesome tank. I really like the interactivity and the integrated aeration function that also seems fun! I think this is my favorite tank so far.
I'm a big fan of the built in air pump. Glad to see this one finally in action
That's so cool! I love that the circus tank doesn't have those magnifying bubbles get in the way of viewing. I feel like the curved shape would make it fun for viewing, but it does seem pretty inefficient. I looove that you can project it on the wall, I would love doing that in my room, it would be so relaxing to fall asleep watching their shadows dancing on the walls~
Good luck to everyone on the giveaway! 😁
Congrats to @timwolfe5575 for winning the giveaway for this video 🙌
Great video, as ever! I think the reason the tank is curved is probably in part to provide it with a bit more stability, given how narrow it is.
Most likely yeah! Probably a good idea considering how many stories I hear about Sea-Monkey tanks getting knocked over 😅
Just love all of your detailed videos and getting to see vintage tanks in action and not just in a collection picture!
Thanks! I have a lot of Sea-Monkey stuff, but I don't consider myself a collector. I only really get it so I can open them up to make these videos :)
This is such a cute tank!! I love the little plastic characters and the concept overall 😭
This tank is another favorite of mine! Looks like so much fun! Wish they would bring it back! Great Vid John! Thank you!
This is my favourite tank by far, no magnifying annoying bubbles that distort the view. I love it
Hahaha yaaaaas! Hate those bloody magnifying bubbles 🤣
@@pico-cosmos Lol, gives it a crystal clear view without them. They should bring this tank back I reckon
💯
This is a fun tank! I love the concept of having a built-in aerator! That would be so nice. Thanks for sharing this fun one with us!!
I had SeaMonkey as a kid and loved them. Watching your videos takes me back, it's so much fun. I don't really like the thin circus tank, but I love the circus rings the monkeys swim through. Great review!
Thanks :) Glad you enjoyed the video
I love that tank design. I never thought about projecting their shadows on the wall either! Loving the vids thank you!
Thanks Joshua 🙏
This channel has tought me so many things about Sea Monkeys! I would not know a single thing without it!
I'm in love with this unusual tank. I've begun my own tank of aqua dragons. They're still rather small, but large enough to see without a magnifier. So relaxing to watch my tiny pets. Love your channel, it gave me the sea monkeys urge, so thank you.
That's great to hear :) I haven't experimented with Aqua Dragons much yet but it's definitely on the list :)
Your love for these sea creatures really stands out. Wonderful video 🧜♀️
Thanks Paul!
Amazing! My personal favourite remains the spaceship sea monkey tank, but every product you review is so much fun.
I think a lot of people love that tank. I do see them come up for sale on ebay every so often, so keep an eye out!
The projection of the seamonkeys is one of the coolest parts. I wish a modern tank would incorporate this.
I’m currently working on a video for the Sea-Monkeys big show tank that has a projector built into the tank :)
@@pico-cosmos that sounds awesome can't wait to see it.
I wasn't sold on this until you put the light through it! It's amazing!!! Thanks for sharing!
I'm currently working on a video for the Sea-Monkeys Big Show tank which has a built in projector light :) should have that one out in a few weeks 👍
@@pico-cosmosthat sounds awesome! I can't wait!!
I LOVE how the sea-monkey projection is so clear to see and I love the design and I think it would be awesome if thay brought it back with a LOT of Design changes
I love your work, I have been watching for a couple weeks and have become obsessed with brine shrimp. Being a Junior in High School, finding new hobbies that don’t correlate with what the world around you is doing is different. I have even possibly convinced my Chemistry teacher to try a brine shrimp lab to test out if different pH levels and algae effect the brine shrimps functions and or size and growth. I love the work man, keep it up. And if I don’t win the giveaway, oh well, I still love the content you put out!!!
That’s so great to hear! Thanks for watching all of the videos and supporting the channel :) I think testing out how water temperature affects their metabolism and growth speed would be really interesting. I’m sure you’d see quite a big difference between a cold and warm tank 👌
Love your channel! Thanks for making great sea monkeys content
I love watching your sea monkeys videos! I reallhy want to make a full brine shrimp tank some time, and your expertise really helps
This is a really neat design. I agree with you that it is too bad that it was not produced to a point where it is available even for purchase.
I adore these videos. Very relaxing and very informing. Sea monkeys are quite nifty imo, so seeing someone look into their product history *and* have a real knack for raising them is fun!
They're super fun to make! It's always a bit of a challenge finding background info about these products because there's so little online, but that's part of the fun I guess :)
They need to release one similar to this again! I think it's absolutely neat to make more interactive tanks for them as they are living creatures and the stimulation might be nice!
Such a fun Sea-Monkey kit. Thank you for showing this!
I've always loved sea monkeys but never had the chance to try them out. I'd like to give it a go one day. I really like to see your videos and getting knowledge on the history and info on the best ways to make your tank be the healthiest it can be
Your videos are amazing! Been thinking about getting some sea monkeys, but I remembered how I never could keep them alive more than a couple of months. I guess I'll try again!
I have all of my best tips in this video :)
ruclips.net/video/ttlYkpcct1M/видео.html
wow, i think that might be my new favorite tank as well. I really liked watching my sea monkeys swim around the astronaut in the Mars tank, i think it would be great to see them swimming through that swinging hoop.
I recently got my first sea monkey tank and your videos have helped my colony thrive!
🙌 that’s great to hear! Which tank did you decide to go with?
I wanted to get back into Sea Monkeys for 2 years now and watching your videos made me really go into full drive now. I would love to get a kit to start with my boyfriend and enjoy the process as I remember it as a child. Thank you for the giveaway. Love your videos!
Glad to hear you’re getting back into the hobby :) good luck for the giveaway!
I didn't know there was so many sea monkey tanks! Wish i was born earlier to experience it all :) thanks for sharing!
Honestly I always think I know about all of the different tanks and then I keep discovering more 😅
This was my favorite of all of your tanks
This is amazing! I'm loving my sea monkey tanks (now 2 weeks old) . I'd love to find the rarer tanks and start collecting the whole item list. I'm still putting together an extensive list now. ❤
Collecting Sea-Monkey tanks feels like a never-ending rabbit hole 😅
@@pico-cosmos so I'm finding 😂
Thanks again for your videos, it's nice to share the hobby with another Kiwi haha
As said, I´ve rewatched almost all your videos today and I think this is one of the best if not the best Sea-Monkeys aquariums. They should bring it back!
I love the idea of builtin aerator hope to see more tanks with that feature in the future. Thanks for the video man i really like it as always❤
Gosh I adore this tank so much!!! I wish my parents were more into sea monkeys when I was little cause these guys are so CUTE
Cool idea with the light projection of the shadow for this Circus Tent Tank. Cool video update, thanks!
I’m currently working on a video for the Sea-Monkeys Big Show tank which has a light built into the tank base for projecting your Sea-Monkeys onto a wall
@@pico-cosmos That sounds really cool and will look great I bet. Keep up the great tips and helpful videos. Very cool you were able to find this rare tank, and yes, the narrow shape and wide view makes it really nice. Thanks!
I feel like I say this every new video but it’s this is my favourite (apart from the OG, has a special place in my heart)
ESPECIALLY when you were showing the ‘light show’, lovely, interesting, absolutely beautiful night-light/lamp/observatory effect! 🥰✨
And, I THINK, that the “night light” feature may be a main reason for the tanks uniquely odd convex shape (aside obviously from its circus theme 🎪) rather than a traditional flat ant-farm like ‘tank’, seems the light shining through on the concave side as a way of projecting the light brighter, condensing it, making the contrast between the light vs. shadows of the sea babies, aiding in watching ‘view the circus’!
Also, I’m not at all surprised that the aeration ‘machinery’ for this tank was unfortunately, not the best certainly. I hypothesize that that specific part of bit was made with, what I refer to as ‘O ring type plastics’ . Even brand new material of this sort seems proven to error. It’s quite malleable, sometimes too much and others not enough. It’s often used in make water tight seals, unfortunately it seems that this type of material is very prone to all sorts of degradation, especially with age, even if left unopened.
Obviously, this is all my just speculation, no idea if I’m even partly correct here, so yeah some theories….
SEA MONKEYS THEORY
Overall, I think this set would be a smart choice for a new rerelease of this set, especially if made just a tad larger, updated aerator, (maybe even some simple built in lighting, some transparent ‘background’’, a version with a clear ‘circus tent’, other ones that that are semi-transparent different variations, some with incapsulated glitter ✨ would be awesome for the nightlight AND circus theme!) make it a tad larger too, it’ll make room for a heat pump/bubbler! ☺️
ABSOLUTELY amazing!!! ❤ i love seamonkeys so much! I seen a lot of your videos now and you've been so helpful!!!!❤❤
Omg this is such a neat and cute tank! I really enjoyed this video and thank you and Todd for this awesome experience! And congrats on 100k!! You deserve so much more!🎉 I have finally gotten my own place so I'll get to buy and set up a sea monkey tank for me and my son, I can't wait, I'm so excited!
🙌 that’s the best thing about having your own place 😂 good luck with your new tanks
Congrats on your own digs and best of luck with your future pet Sea-Monkeys. -- Tod
I actually really like this tank. Definitely one of my favorites I've seen so far ☺️ I love the little elephant cut out in particular. I wish they had made more interactive sea monkey tanks. Also good luck to everyone with the giveaway 💖
Ahh i haven't watched one of your videos in too long. The tank was so well preserved and just so crazy looking that i didn't think it was an official sea monkey at first! Super super cool video!
Haha yeah I remember when I first came across this tank I thought it was from the 70s or 80s because of how crappy the quality looked. Was quite surprised when I found out it was from 1998
your videos got me back into sea monkeys! i purchased a sea monkeys on mars set and ive had so much fun with it since!!
Thanks Picocosmos. You can see where this hobby of yours is going can't you? I think you will be uniquely placed to design your own sea monkey tank - and find a read market amongst fans like me!
hey! I've wanted sea monkeys for a while! I'll be fully honest, I haven't watched every video you've ever made. But I'm on them way ;) it's funny that your whole channel is dedicated to sea monkeys, but I love it. - Scarfed
Another AMAZING review from my fave sea-primate specialist. Fingers crossed on the giveaway!
Wow this is so kool. Appreciated sharing.
Love your channel and sea monkeys...👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
thanks for another great video. this definitely is one of the more unique tank designs. your videos are definitely getting me into the idea of starting my own sea monkey sanctuary. i could also see my nephew loving this!
Sea-Monkeys are great for kids 👌 they’re a good learning tool and helps to get them away from digital screens.. for a while lol
I'm not sure if you read comments, but I've come to really enjoy your channel recently! I'm researching into proper care for sea monkeys, as I'm currently working on a project fish bowl, which I would like living beings in.. and that's where brine shrimp come in! A space that small wouldn't even allow me to consider much larger.
I'm slowly gathering the information you share as I plan out the ideas for the fish bowl.
I'll continue to watch your videos and learn more. When committing to a pet, I believe in doing my best to provide an environment that my critters can thrive in.
That being said, thank you for making the content that you do! I'm going to binge some more of your vids now 😂
That is indeed a pretty cool sea monkey set fair play
just the concept of sea monkey clowns is too cute for me to handle ❤🤡❤
the design has a very distinct vintage style to it, so I wasn't surprised that it evolved from a 60s concept.
I'd say the idea dates even before ant farm, with the "flea circuses". Honestly, a circus inspired aquarium would be pretty amazing on a large scale.
Ok I didnt even know flea circuses were a thing! Thanks for letting me know, will definitely look into them 👌
I enjoyed this video so much! I really like this one. You can see them really well. I hope everyone has a great day!!!
Yeah this tank is such a great viewing experience, definitely my favourite so far
Awesome. There are so many different sea monkey tanks out there! This one has quite an interesting shape!
Wow what an interesting tank! I really hope they remake something like this in the future.
Me too! I need to collab with them to design something
I just found your channel today and I am now obsessed with it! I have been interested in sea monkeys for a long time and I am loving the reviews as well as the information you are giving on them. I have yet to get a tank of my own but I am now really wanting to try this. I have not yet watched all the videos you have here but I am hoping you have one telling people about how long they live and how long a tank may last for as they seem to preproduce quickly. Thank you for sharing your wonderful hobby with us!
Glad to hear you're enjoying the content :) Each individual Sea-Monkey can live up to 4 months, though a colony can be sustained indefinitely in good conditions :)
I love this tank, its so different from the other ones
It is super unique huh. I guess the closest thing these days is probably the new Ocean Treasure tank, but I much prefer the design of this one
I had no idea this circus kit exists. Thanks.
Absolutely agree that a wide flat tank shape is ideal for observation and projection!
Hey Pico! I recently found you channel and you have helped so much! I checked out your affiliate links and have a bubbler, temperature adjuster, and purple grow light coming today using your link. (other then the purple light). Thank you so much for helping me create my Sea Monkeys! Today is their 5th day of being born :). I would like to enter the giveaway and I will just hope and pray to start another colony!!! ❤
That’s so great to hear :) the mini heater and air pump are such a big help, so I’m sure your new Sea-Monkeys will appreciate them. Good luck for the giveaway!
Oh wow, I was so surprised when you showed the shape - I was expecting an oblong or circle, not that really narrow, slender kit. That was really, really surprising. (Especially given how firm the plastic for ant farms was. No parent wanted those tipping over!)
Your videos are top quality. You really get some great close up shots of everything!
Those close up shots often taken me ages to capture, so I'm glad to hear you appreciate seeing them :)
Thank you so much for the content you make, John!
I loved the night lite idea with the tank , it’s something different 😁
Had no idea these were rare! Had one as a kid! tbh we had several "generations" of sea monkeys over the years, but I distinctly remember this one because of the bubbler
omg and the race track too! woah nostalgia blast!
Yeah outside of Australia basically nobody had this tank. I recently got another glow in the dark Sea-Monkey tank from Moose that I’ll be making a video about later this year 👌
@@pico-cosmos ha finally a benefit to being so isolated from the rest of the world!
A light show with a torch ?? That got me excited lol not what I expected
😂😂😂
@@pico-cosmos still all the love artemia dad!
I love the tank and your content hope to see more videos soon hope you have a good day Byeeee
Thanks to you and your videos I've decided to start my own brine shrimp colony!
Sadly starter kits are hard to come by here and so I had to settle for brine shrimp eggs instead, but it has been fun and they are still just as charming.
Quick question though. I saw a short regarding turning sea monkeys red. Have you considered trying blue next? I was wondering if blue spirulina would have any effect on them.
Cheers!
🙌 welcome to the community! Are you having much luck with your DIY setup? It took me ages to get mine right. Haha yeah I’ll try blue spirulina one day, though my guess is that it will prob just turn them a very dark blue
@@pico-cosmos Things are looking good right now. Watching some of your tip videos definitely made things less bumpy, well that and a bit of trial and error. As of right now my colony is about a week old and going strong. They are a bunch of adorable little buggers.
