    The calves look happy and well cared for, that's all you can ask, well done.

    Do you deep litter them, then muck out after each batch has gone through?

    • @cornishcalves9216
      @cornishcalves9216  2 года назад

      Yes, they get bedded up daily, then all gets mucked out and disinfected after

    Do you get the calves after they've had colostrum from the momma? My 1st batch of dairy calves came in without having had colostrum and they just couldn't quite get healthy.

    • @cornishcalves9216
      @cornishcalves9216  4 года назад +1

      Yes, here they can't be sold until they are a week old, so they would have had their colostrum from their mum

    What benefits are there of keeping the calves on milk in single stalls? It would be easier for you and more social for the calves if they were in groups of say, 10. You could get a 10 tit calf feeder also.

      Because this way I can monitor exactly how much they are drinking, I can monitor their concentrate food and water intake as well, this way I can keep on top of any issues they may be having, the first few weeks are vital for giving them the best start possible, this way I can make sure each calf gets just the right amount of milk, bit that the strongest get the most. Also some calves need less milk than others, if one may be scouring slightly I can add more water into their milk. They only stay in individual pens until the are being weaned.

      Also the calves after 8 weeks are all in together also, they can still communicate with each other without having to be in the pens. I also prefer them to be de honed, rung and vaccinated before going into a large group together, this can limit the risk of infections.
