I have both. My “Storm Trooper” white one was sharp right out of the package. I put it to work cutting up a bunch of boxes, and it did very well. I touched it up with a strop, and it’s back to very sharp. Can’t beat it for $5…
I think it is a great knife at a bargain price. I bought a couple and went back wait later to get a few more, and my store was almost sold out. Better get them while you can !!
Nooo please save that 5 bucks and buy a stone and learn to sharpen the knives you already have !!! I can get these knives razor sharp...sure.... but I can dull them on cardboard faster than I can re-sharpen the pos. Anyone with any type of blade retention retention knowledge knows these things lose an edge faster than Speedy Gonzales. The factory grinding process heats that edge up just enough that it just won't stay sharp for long at all.
@@Stickbow1980 If I want to cut a lot of cardboard, I'll use box cutter with disposable blades. No folding knife on the planet will replace an actual utility knife (box cutter). For everyday light cutting tasks, the steel (3cr13mov) in this Walmart $5 special is ok. It's softer steel but it will cut things. Most people who buy it could care less about edge holding.
I got mine hair shaving sharp after cleaning up the edge a bit. Heck for $5 and a few minutes of good sharpening. Definitely a perfect cheap bargain knife!
I like the belt clip on the orange one better, it's easier to get started and don't have to pull it out to slide over fabric. Thanks for the comparison video!
I honestly believe the white one is better. I HAD both, the orange ones lock went out on me after about 1 month of regular use at work. Omega spring failed, and when I took the knife apart to fix/ remove the broken spring the knife practically fell apart and I couldn’t even hardly get it back together so I trashed it. The white one lock feels better and shows a little more promise in my opinion.
I agree with you except, the new orange D2 model with the reversible pocket clip is built substantially better, has ceramic bearings, better feeling scales and the blade is stamped D2.
The out-of-the-box sharpness on both of these is ass. But you can sharpen both of them to a razor without much trouble. I just bought several more of the $10 one a couple days ago and had the same experience as when I bought the original orange one last year. And my original one still has the original edge I gave it without needing touch up.
The orange and white are available online right now, I ordered 2 of the orange one a week ago, and they already arrived. Since they were available I ordered two more orange and 3 white for gifts lol, that price is really hard to beat and I think ALL these other companies have some explaining to do. If OT can put out this quality at that price, what is everyone else's excuse? Thanks for showing!
@georgiarebel6029 the orange one has showed up on Walmart website in the past week. It'll be available for a while, then out of stock again, then available again the next day. Keep checking the website for it.
I have both. The orange one is better. Better steel, better action, bearings, and a more durable build. The white one is not bad, though. The action is very smooth, and the lock-up is solid. Getting a good edge on it has been a challenge, but the same was true for the orange one at first.
@jesseboutdoors I ended up using a pull-thru sharpener to start an apex. Then, I used a sharpening system with guide rods and clamp to get a good clean bevel. Then I honed and stropped it on a worksharp field sharpener. After some work, it is shaving sharp, but before that, it wouldn't cut paper.
Part of the allure of this knife was that it had D2 steel they could have compromised and done that 5 buck version with VG-10 like camillus does in their cheap knives and maybe charged 7 bucks for it. Any steel under 8cr13mov steel is not going to hold an edge.
Sharpen before you stick it in the tool , tackle , truck/ car , the steel literally gets dull getting breathed on or sitting in a drawer, $5 is super cheap, it’s probably a better idea to buy the $10 D2 which is a terrible knife also , but doesn’t dull being exposed to air and will probably be sharp enough to cut your hamburgers in the car 😂😂
Notice how it just folds the paper without cutting if he doesn't run the blade right above his thumb !!! Anyone with common sense could clearly see how well this knife " does not" stay sharp and keep cutting.
The D2 was a welcome improvement but the rest of them are just very light duty fidget toys. I'd suggest the cjrb mini pyrite for 30 bucks. Thanks for sharing good job with the video. 👍
That 5$ flexing knife I would not buy. They cheaped it out by saving the full tang handle. Better would be to buy the 10$ old version with an full tang. On Walmart I see the for the price here advertised. It does not even say which steel it is or its HRC hardness. I rather buy an Ganzo knife for around 20$ (but not more than 20$ since that is considered overpriced already by me). They sport 440C steel and claim 58 HRC. Axis lock as well. I see as well Civivi show up with an overpriced boxcutter which has half way down tangs. A flexing nightmare will overrun the market if this evil gets copied industry wide. Half or 1/4 tang is an bad idea and an deal breaker. No thank you.
@@daveh777 The tang in an folder is just interrupted by the locking mechanism and pivot. Nevertheless it is a full tang if the metal goes all the way back to the end of the handle. I see this bad custom multiply doing only a short 1/4 tang and the rest is just flexing plastic scales. Some like Civivi try to get around by using G10 scales who flex less to none in order to save a cent with this bad practice of 1/4 tang or not at all. Next you will see plastic locking mechanisms and plastic pivot bolts. Le'mme sink that in. Just disgusting...
@@rtz549 The Bugout has as well only metal up to the locking mechanism (the first screw in the handle). The rest is plastic. Cheap plastic. Plastic which costs Benchmade Cents to order from Ch-Ch-Chaaina - China. But they sel you the piece of plastic crap for 190$. I went with the Ganzo 729 from China for 22$. 440C, PM2 homage, awesome blade geometry, full metal scales and "autoadjust Axis Lock". Ganzo even improved the McHenry-Williams lock to an autoadjust lock which adjust itself with wear like the Tri-Ad lock.
