Scorpion (Hanzo Hasashi, dude from the start of the movie) is the one who says Get Over Here, Liu Kang is the guy they train with who throws fireballs, Matt was saying two seperate things
The sequel needs to be 2 hours of only Sub Zero fighting Scorpion, while Kano yells insults at them.

This was so fun seeing Matt enjoy this. I was worried he'd like not know or be like bored with this. But I agree with most everyone here too. The movie isn't great, but it's super fun. I felt like a kid again watching all the battles and you know... I'd like to see more! When Scorpion comes in I felt like the Leonardo Dicaprio meme pointing at the screen haha awesome reactions!

I think the non focused powers are from bodly weakness or trauma. Kano's laser coming from the eye that got slashed, Jaxs arms, Cole gets Wakanda armor for being a human punching bag.

yup, thats kinda how i saw it too, when their Akana got realized it buffed their strengths/weakness. Jax was a powerhouse but lost his arms and got small cybernetic ones, so it powered up what he had at realization. Cole was a punching bag for years in fights, so the Akana gave him the armor to absorb hits and redirect the power behind said hits. no idea on Kano, altho what you said for him could be it. and Sonya, they just wanted her to have her rings from the games(altho in 11 i believe she uses tech for the rings)....../shrugs.

Using this take, i would say that Sonya arkana came from the fact that she is a great fighter but how everyone treat her, her fist weren't enough, so now she can one shot oponents.
And Kung Lao, is more hard to say because we didn't get a backstory like with Liu Kang, but i can gather that he has a Thor-Mjolnir type of relation with the hat and just like with Jax arms, when needed, the hat got a upgrade.
I love how at 25:05 Matt and Jen have the same facial expression but for entirely different reasons. He is excited and she needs a nap

The effect that nostalgia can have on a person. The fact that he was a fan of the video game in his youth come to life in a movie is what triggered his excitement. Pretty much how we all were with Star Wars, Marvel and other big franchises.
If they handled Sub-Zero this well then I CANT WAIT to see how they handle Noob Saibot!!!

I like how they actually used moved from the game in this one, like sub-zero making an ice copy and moving backwards during the end fight was a quick one that I am sure some people missed. I am looking forward to the sequel when he comes back as Noob Saibot.
And Joe Taslim is fantastic in Warrior which is an awesome show based on the writings from Bruce Lee. Awesome martial arts drama
As a fan of the franchise, I was more entertained watching Matt’s reaction to the film than the film itself.
As soon as I saw this pop up, I clicked instantly. The intro was amazing lol. I grew up loving these video games. I saw both original movies in the theaters with my dad. When I saw that they were doing an R rated movie, I got excited because I wanted to see where they went. I was like Matt when I saw it in the theater last weekend. So nostalgic, and the fight choreography is so good. Joe Taslim as Bi-Han was a perfect choice. I never thought Sub Zero could be so scary. Our local Comic Con is coming back in June, and there is supposed to be an announcement dealing with Mortal Kombat. It sounds like some actors or someone associated with the franchise is going to be there. If they get Joe Taslim, I am going to lose it. I am cosplaying as Sub Zero at the Con. I loved this movie, and while the originals still hold a place in my heart, this one I feel like is definitely better.
Kung Lao was my favorite in the movie and then they kill him off...
I swear the story between scorpion Sub-Zero and hell even Quan chi has always been one of my favorite parts of mortal Kombat of all the little stories I feel like scorpions is just the most poetic
Being a kid you realize Sub-Zero is the best fighter because he looks cool and heroic
Being an adult you realize scorpion is the true hero and best fighter and his story is both tragic and make him the true hero of mk
That being said you guys need to see scorpions revenge I know it's an animated movie but hell if you and Matt like this that basically goes into full depth with scorpions origins and everything you need to know I'm sending you a copy as we speak man so I hope you enjoy

The powers in this film are unlocked once the character achieves some form of enlightenment or lessons learned...and the powers always show up is form that appears to connect to their backstory or details about them.
Jax and Kano are the more obvious to point out.
Jax felt he couldn’t do anything with those dinky chicken arms so his power was enhancing the tech in his arms to make them ultra powerful and huge.
Kano his power stemmed from his anger and temper...showing up in the form of a red eye that shoots lasers.
Cole (I think I’m the only person who likes him maybe because I found him to be attractive and a way better actor than any of the other main characters...besides Kano and Sub Zero). His powers stemmed from his introduction scene...he could take a beating if he would just not give up...once he had something pushing him to not give up the powers unlocked. And they showed up in the form of being able to turn all hits he receives into strengthening himself making his blows more powerful.
Not quite sure how Sonya’s powers tie to her back story BUT IM GLAD THEY WENT WITH THE ONE THEY VERSUS THE OTHER POWERS SHE HAS IN THE GAMES (like the Kiss of Death is dope however in a movie like this it would be underwhelming)....same goes for if she had limited flight ability that allowed her to stay airborne for a few seconds at a time and if she just got a decked out highly advanced futuristic drone/turret.
I love the consistency of Jen showing appreciation for the bad guy. First Vader, then Loki and currently Thanos in the MCU and now Sub-Zero.
My favorite part hands-down has to be the three sweeps of the leg. That pissed every Mortal Kombat player in the early days when someone would just sweep the leg over and over and over again to win.
I haven't even seen this movie yet. This will be the decider

This movie is supposed to be a prequel to the tournament. Raiden is gathering the fighters and when he tells Shang Tsung that he’s breaking the rules Shang Tsung says the elder gods are too lazy to care and enforce the rules.

Sonic, Pikachu and MK1 were the best video game movies. I vividly remember watching MK1 in theatres and the beginning credits and song were loud AF and it was freaking awesome!

MK1 was a horrible movie. It's fun because it's so horrible, but it's in no way a "great" video game movie, as it completely butchers several characters not only in looks but also in character.
Also, it’s a show not a movie, Castlevania is awesome too.

Really I think Goro looked amazing! I suggest you go back and watch that scene again especially pay attention to his hands coming out of the barn.
I also heard a rumor that they are wanting to turn this into like an MCU type universe and have different characters have their own solo movies and then have the Mortal Kombat movies be like the Avengers where they all come together. That's why Sub Zero is signed on for so many movies. 1 or 2 are actually solo movies
If this was their plan then they made a horrible decision on this movie. They already had a poor man's tournament. Killed off main characters. Very stupid movie that will never achieve the plans they have.
@@LordMesa well again it's just rumored and no character really dies. They can easily bring back any character cause just like in the game when you die there's always round 2 or you can play the same character next etc. So they have options. Lol
@@LordMesa the movie actually achieved a lot lol. It’s the most watched HBO movie on it’s opening weekend. Considering the fact that they had a very small budget for what they were trying to do. Also not all the characters who “died” are permanently dead. Shang Tsung literally says this before taking their bodies. And if characters not staying dead is a problem well then you’re watching the wrong franchise

Love your subtle transitions between cuts, it flows so well. I think Matt finally has a my friend watches that he can do on his channel. Hopefully a trilogy coming up, where Matt can show his fan side to Mortal Kombat and show others not so fan side.

@@FredMaverik Yeah they probably dint know nothing about the games at first then start doing they research for this movie cause if you dint realize Nitara and Reiko is from the old mortal Kombat games, then throughout the movie you can see and hear stuff that’s from the game so it sounds to me they did they research, and this movie is low budget they only had 50 million to make this and they also had time restriction, the director said a lot of stuff was cut and I love this movie and if it was a big budget film I’ll be okay with it I can’t wait for the second one🔥

As far as video game adaptations go, this is far and away the best I’ve seen. Went in with little expectation, very rudimentary knowledge of the games, left satisfied.
I just watched last year’s Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge which is an animated film on Hbo max and it was fantastic. I highly recommend it. Imagine a mixed animation style of anime and Young Justice. Really awesome

Someone else suggested that Cole Young should’ve just been Takeda all along and frankly I 100% agree with that because it makes sense considering he becomes Scorpions apprentice. I doubt they are gonna add Kenshi so this just would’ve been the second best option if we’re deviating from the actual plot of the games.

I was highly entertained just watching the girls reacting to the gore. The guys were like "wooooo!" and jenna and jen were just shocked/disgusted
Um.. I wanna know if it is bad because I watched this movie and I am not even 13 yet but I played the actual game when I was 6 and my little sister is 3 and we both loved the gore and blood and thought it was super cool......do we need help? Is that bad for our childhood?
@@tiaramnarine5160 short answer: no. Long answer: gore and blood is like horror movies: they work only when you're a kid or a young teen. It's extremely hard for me to be shocked or scared. It's been hard for 20+ years now, and I miss the times when I would watch a scary movie and then be afraid of lying in my bed in the dark, hoping to fall asleep quickly, until freddy came and screwed that whole strategy up.
There will come a day when you'll become completely inmune to that feeling and you'll miss it too. So I say: if you are into it, always try to watch things that you're "too young to watch", because once you're old enough to handle it, you're old enough for it not to be memorable. As long as you and your sister don't go out and try to cut people's head off with a hat I'd say you're ok.
