based on all the things that you said in this video ...i know for a fact that you would love the mortal kombat scorpions revenge animated movie....its waaaay better than this movie pls react to it :'(....it gives you everything you want from a mortal kombat movie
So it's not explicitly explained in the MK Movies, but there was an animated Prequel Movie to the 1995 MK Movie, but Essentially the Reason why Bi-Han in this movie is 600 years old but looks like he's in his prime is that. The Person who is the Champion of Mortal Kombat becomes Immortal until the next tournament so that they can defend their title in the following tournament. We know this because Kung Lao's Ancestor The Great Kung Lao defended 3 Tournaments until Prince Goro Killed him in the first of 9 victories and then he became immortal.
what I mean to say is that Bi-Han the Older Sub-Zero is clearly Shang Tsung's Champion in this film, he is the 'goro' of '95 movie, he has been killing all the participants off screen, he beat jax, he beat hanzo in the past, he was the big boss. Where as Goro is like "Oh it's great your here to join us prince goro, it's an honor to have you." It's a reaction like This is Goro's First tournament, which is why he died like fodder. He's not a reoccurring champion like in the 95 film.
I don't care what y'all 4 guys say I think it's a great movie and since y'all can nit pick at everything I would love to see y'all make a mortal kombat movie and see how it goes

Fun fact the actor who played Sub Zero was told during his fight scenes that he needed to slow down because the cameras couldn’t pick it up on film. The only other actor this happened to was Bruce Lee.

@@drummersnare6276 seeing it for the 1st time yesterday and LOVE it.. The TV station I saw it on was "sky premiere HD" and they gave it a 15 rating..only suitable for persons 15 or older.. Personally I think an 18 would be more appropriate due to the violence.

I love that Hanzo learned exactly one English phrase over the centuries.
And it's the most classic English phrase in Mortal Kombat.
He speaks Japanese to everyone and says he doesn't understand subzero. Subzero speaks Chinese.

The reason why Raiden wasn’t in the movie as much was because he was too busy consulting the elder gods.

This is acting as a prequel to the tournament. Joe Taslim has signed on for 4 more movies and they give the out to bring characters back as "death is just another portal"
i wish in the next movie that is starts off with everything being a “Practice Mode”.. starting in the temple... and all the characters come back in the next film for the actual Tournament.

As an Aussie I've grown up watching Josh Lawson, he's so talented, and extremely funny!
He was the perfect choice for Kano, easily the highlight of the movie!

He was absolutely perfect for Kano and honestly the one actor who seemed to be having the most fun with the part throughout the film.
They really missed the world's best concept of having Scorpion just live with Cole's family in the next movie. "Oh who's that guy?" "My undead ninja ancestor who shoots flames"

The massive cuts was the first thing I noticed too. Ever since movies like John Wick, audiences are done with the constant cuts.
Not surprised either, cuts are so damn distracting and it fucks with peoples eyes.
The worst kind is where it zooms in so close and constantly whips back and forth across the character during fist fights and gun battles.
Phobias are fascinating, Aaron is basically cheering someone’s body get sliced head to toe by a rotating blade but a tiny needle is too much xD

I'm the same. It's a bit dark, but I've tried killing myself several times before I got help. The concept of death doesn't really affect me anymore. But I am however TERRIFIED of needles. Like someone can pull a knife on me and I probably won't react much, but I completely freeze up and freak out when I have to get blood work done or when I've gotten vaccine shots

Needles make people flinch and wince because it happens often to people. Slicing in half with a giant saw is rarely a pain one will experience

I think this was more of a "you know the characters, you know of the lore, we are all fans, lets move it along." Kind of movie.
I definitely think Kano saved this movie cause he was the best!
And I definitely believe that we'll see all these dead characters come back in the next one cause no one ever really stays dead in MK..
Except they change the lore and characters to make a self insert character the main protagonist and push all the interesting characters to the side.

Kano was great but it almost felt as if after he switched sides he lost about 80% of his personality compared to prior.

The Sub-zero guy is Joe Taslim is an amazing martial artist. The raid,The night comes for us, warrior and so on. To cut his scenes like that is a disgrace.

That pissed me off quite a bit that they did that. He's such a damn good martial artist too. I hope to hell they don't do that for the next film.

I am not a fan of Mortal Kombat, but Scorpion's "Get Over Here!" gives me goosebumps
They gave their made up protagonist literal plot armor.
It was explained though? He was a literal punching bag, setup in the very beginning of the film, so his arcana manifesting into something that allows him to take punches (since that's what he's good at), made absolute sense.

My favorite character in the games is Kabal so I am so glad that he was done well in this. I didn’t expect to even see him so the fact that they got him right was so satisfying.
They couldve had him & mileena go on a killing spree on earth or attacking the monks in the temple.. mileena shouldve survived.. they couldve did way more with her character dialogue with Katana in the actual Tournament sequel film. Goro they couldve saved for the tournament considering he was the reigning champion of.

- Nitara's mistreatment.
- Goro's BIG mistreatment.
- Reiko's BIG mistreatment.
- Cole Young's personality and power.
- Reptile's semblance and death.
- Shang Tsung doing almost nothing.
I am okay with Kung Lao death (he was too OP), the movie is good but it really feels like there are a lot that was cut out.

@@birons3708 No, Goro is basically "THE CHAMPION" of the tournament and a thinking being, in this movie they destroy all of that. Reiko is powerful and smart general, in this movie seems like a generic goon who doesn't say a single word.

To me, the movie was made like "We know what we are, we know what you are here for" like we got the cheesy lines, the glorious fatalities, and from Kano the fantastic humor. I never took this movie seriously because it is what it is, and I was actually loving the movie knowing that the creators just had fun with it and didn't take themselves too seriously and added the right amount of ridiculous like 90's cheese to it.

Yeah that's literally the only disappointing part for me. It's 2021, we've had so many movies and TV shows now with fight scenes that are shown very cleanly and clearly, it sucks this one relied on a lot of quick cuts. I assume it's partly because this was a first time director, and then partly because only 3 of the actors or so have martial arts backgrounds, but still... like you, I really hope the sequel can showcase the actual choreography.
Bi-Han and Kano were by far the best things about this movie. This movie is quite flawed, but a big part of those flaws was the budget restraint. You can tell they were really trying to work around it and it caused the filmmakers to cut some corners. It was still an enjoyable movie and most importantly it made me excited for another movie. Hopefully, we will get a sequel with a bigger budget.
i think what makes sub zero and scorpion’s arcs interesting in the games is that neither of them are truly evil, they were mostly victims of circumstance and manipulation by quan chi, and i was rlly hoping quan chi would be in the movie for that exact reason

This was my first Mortal Kombat movie, and for someone who has played a couple of them but isnt really on the up and up in the lore department, I really enjoyed this movie.
It didn't take itself too seriously, was filled with cool fight scenes and for trying to get Mortal Kombat and the characters abilities to make sense, the story was surprisingly fine.
At the very least, considering video game movies, this was better than expected.
I enjoy it too. Despite not having the tournament in this and saving it for the sequel is my only complaint
Sonya's arcana isnt 'guns' it's energy rings. Her classic projectile move from MK1
Kano was always my favorite character in the first Mortal Kombat game. Metal plate on his face, a glowing red eye and literally ripping hearts out. Not to mention the name "Kano" just sounds so badass.

That leg sweep scene is basically from the games. There are actually so many scenes and lines from the games....and I'm happy about that.
There were so many easter eggs in this movie. My favorite was when Sub Zero freezes Jax's gun. On the glass behind there's writing that says "down forward + LP", which is the input command for Sub Zero's ice blast in the games. I never noticed it in the trailer, but in the movie you can see it much better lol

@@andrewames247 I mean the ending sets up a sequel since Sub-Zero will be Noob Saibot pretty sure and his brother (if they go that route) will be new Sub-Zero. They also gave out hints/cameo in the movie of other characters. The rotten tomatoes are mixed, but this is the MK we needed tbh and IF this "test run" of the movie succeeds then yeah there will be 4 more movies which I don't mind since it'll be on HBO Max. The director said he's planning sequels so.

Totally agree with Eric, the quick cutting during fights was super sad to see. The beginning and ending of the movie was awesome, but the whole middle bit dragged on and could have been done in some way that was more entertaining.
The cast was solid, it's not like they can't pull the fight scenes themselves.
Shame the actors didn't get to show off their abilities...

I absolutely loved this movie, it had nearly everything I wanted. Solid 9/10 for me. It wasn’t perfect, but it was certainly amazing

Joe Taslim who played sub zero is one of the well known actors for martial arts films. He was in the raid, and also a really good netflix film called the night comes for us which you lot have got to react to.
Hearing Calvin shout "and so it begins" was hilarious and oddly therapeutic. I don't even know why I'm commenting about it, but it was just pure auditory pleasure😂.

@@wag-wankenobi1626 Oh yea. Im not judging them for not knowing Kenshi. Rick even accidentally explains why later. He said the last one he played was MK9. Kenshi wasn’t a big character till MKX. He was a popular DLC for MK9, so they added him as a main character in MKX, but outside of that, he was never really that popular.
Kano stole the show. With Kabal coming in a close second. Their dialog and acting were the best in this movie.
Kabal, Sub-Zero, & Mileena fighting cops in a on earth scene early on wouldve been sick..
Speaking as someone who is not familiar with the game or the previous movies I feel like I enjoyed this movie way more than you guys did. Maybe because I didn't have any previous iterations to compare it to.

Dude I own nearly every single game and both of the original movies and still loved this new film. It is all about allowing yourself to have fun with something instead of getting hung up on small details.

The reason I love the RYKU AND JAX fights even though it was quick was that map is so iconic imagine how many warriors are down there hopefully we get more maps in the next one
You guys should watch the Warrior tv series, the guy who plays Subzero in this has a big role in that. The story is pretty good and the fights are awesome.
All I wanted was a good amount of blood and I was satisfied.
There's more blood in Scorpions revenge and the choreography is better in the 1995 MK.

Yeah same I came into this with simple expectations I just wanted to see some fun well shot fights, some good visual effects, awesome bloody, gory fatalities and I got that. Yes this was not a very good movie, the pacing, the characterization, plot and hand and hand fighting needs work, but they do have more movies planed and if I'm under the impression that these are gonna get better as they go along id say this movie was a good starting point for whatever they have planned.
@@francobanko6722 Well the hand to hand combat is seperate from the fight choreography, which I thought looked stellar and yes there should be less cutting and editing done to the fights in future sequels. When I say the hand to hand needs work I mean that you need to feel the kicks and punches. In other films and shows like Cobra Kai and Raid you get how much the hits hurt, in this you don't, they shake it off like it's nothing.
Definitely put HBOMax's Warrior on the watch list if you're interested in more martial arts this one based on the writings of Bruce Lee, with Sub-Zero's actor playing a prominent role in it 😁
Kabal was so freaking good in this movie, Idk why, he was just so cool, also, his voice, amazing Karacter, gonna play him just because of this movie!
And his first fight with Liu is about how it really went in-game rather than in-lore. Kabal in-game was broken af
the guy who plays sub-zero is in a tv show called warrior...the just got the green light for season 3...its martial arts based on bruce lee writings...you should check it out

Fighting styles and weapons were introduced in Deadly Alliance. Sub Zero had an ice sword, Scorpion had a katana, Kano had butterfly knives.
weapons were actually introduced in mk4. i remember sub zero had a spiked hammer or mallet.

Anyone else getting tired of Rick being a pessimist? In nearly every reaction I’ve watched him in, no matter how much he was laughing along or claiming to enjoy what he’s watching, the minute it ends he’ll says something that makes it sound like what he watched was awful. Granted,sometimes it is, but most of the time it’s fine. The one that I keep going back to is from the mandolorian when (SPOILER) shows up and the first thing Rick does is starts nitpicking, like...dude... c’mon. Even Eric was upset by that one & told Rick to shut his trap. Just once I would actually like to hear Rick say something positive.

Some reactions like Brooklyn 99, Attack On Titan and Naruto show his positive side, he's just very selective, and highly critical, which sure, can be a downer when it's about something you like but the dude does choreography and camera work himself, so he's got actual experience to back his opinions up at the end of the day.

Thank you so much! You’re the first ones to address how the editing robs these martial artists of all the hard work they put into these fight scenes. Martial arts is just that, it’s an art-form! These guys are the best at what they do, so why the hell would you jump cut the story they are telling all to shit. It just makes no sense. I feel like they had a movie that could’ve been a 8-9 out of ten, and the studio just wouldn’t stop interfering. From everything I’ve read that’s what I gather happened, and then they edited everything down to rush through the plot, and fight scenes. They took a step forward in some areas and then two steps backwards. I want more, but I want them to write a coherent script where the characters are fleshed out, and they don’t jump cut all the epic fights. Pace them, and tell a story. A death means nothing when it happens in two seconds to a character you gave no screen time to. I love the Sub Zero/Scorpion stuff, and Kano was good in this. It’s just frustrating, Bc it could’ve been so much better! Cutting those fight scenes down really was a big mistake. It’s almost unforgivable when you have a few great martial artists like this. Just give me fight scenes like The Raid. These guys gave the performances, but they dumbed down everything they did. That’s just a massive misstep.

Why do people keep sayin this lmao. The first movie was godawful. It was a "fun because it's bad" type. Johnny Cage and Lui Kang were the only decent things about that movie.
Yeah, its 100% nostalgia glasses that keeps people saying that. This new one is about 10 times better then the old movies. The only thing better in those movies is the theme song. Which I must admit, I was disappointed that they didn't have it in this movie other then a slight hum of it during the final fight and then in the aftercredits. If they get to do a sequel to this they better have that in full during a fight scene.
I just saw the originl movie. Couple years ago. The fights are better in this one and some of the character work is better but the middle of this film is such a goddamn drag. I loved the fan service moments but there were way too many boring moments in this film in addition, and most of the fights were too choppy to actually appreciate. The original is fun from start to finish because of its cheesiness.
Even as someone with tons of childhood nostalgia of 1995, I have to say this 2021 version out does it in nearly every regard.
Scorpion and Sub Zero in particular were a thousand times better.

@@the25thprime That's fair, this new movie isn't perfect in the slightest but it just annoys me that there seems to be so much love for the superflawed 95 version (which is of course, a ton of fun to watch since you can laugh about how ridiculous some things are). But with the white-washed Raiden, the absolute disrespect towards Scorpion and Sub-Zero, the poor acting for the most part, the absolutely dogshit effects on Reptile (movie came out 2 years after Jurassic Park... yet the graphics look worse than a PS1 game)... it just isn't a good movie :P

Nitara is from Mortal Kombat 5 Deadly Alliance and Reiko is from Mortal Kombat 4...I guess you needed some to die, Mileena and Kabal is kinda of a waste...At least Shang Tsung and Quang Chi can bring back any fighter they want back to life, not bound by the same rules...Hope they get Kenshi with Johnny Cage in the next one !

I did enjoy seeing the big fight of Kung Lao against Nitara like MKX style. Of course, one with Liu Kang vs. Kabal was great of his fiery dragon moves! As always Scorpion vs. Sub-Zero has been legendary for their rivals!
