- Filmed at the Welsh Millennium Centre, Cardiff, on the 10th February 2014. Julian Lloyd Webber plays Karl Jenkins' "Benedictus" from "The Armed Man - A Mass for Peace" at Karl Jenkins' 70th Birthday Gala Concert, conducted by the composer.
I know this piece quite well and am listening today, on the 1st Anniversary of the evil Russian attack on Ukraine. The sacrifice made to combat evil, whether 1914 (WW I), 1939 (WW II) or now in Ukraine or other wars, must never be forgotten.
Well said Richard I'm with you 1943 air raid was my welcome to this world I have a feeling it will accompany to the next how disappointing
Had this piece played at our daughter's funeral. Spine-chilling and movingly beautiful. Thank you, Karl Jenkins
I wish you hope in the midst of sorrow, comfort in the midst of pain, courage to face the times ahead and loving memories of your daughter to forever hold in your heart.
May your daughter rest in eternal peace! - Yours in sympathy.
I couldn't say more than that, with deepest sympathy
Bless you so sorry for your loss.its beautiful just as she was to you .xx
Sorry for your loss, may this beautiful music
be a comfort to you and your family!🌹🌺
We are with you Yvonne, we will play this piece also at our daughters funeral in a weeks time, she was only 30
This is probably the most incredibly beautiful and moving piece of music ever written....
Agreed
I totally agree with you.
I heard this on classic FM what a song Def brings tears to the eyes
No question … so beautiful. I cannot stop listening….
The first time I heard this work I was driving and it was played on the classical music station. I was so moved by it I pulled over and parked. As the work played out, I was driven to tears. I swear to God I heard a voice in my head saying “Just let go…”. It was a very peaceful cathartic moment. Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece of music and performance of it here.
We were at this concert, 1st time we ever heard this piece, absolutely overwhelming.
I chose this for my fathers funeral - achingly beautiful and gentle - also played "fly me to the moon"
I dont know what i have just listened to but i truely feel different i cant explain it
This song is out of this World
I listened to it when driving through flanders fields. Tears rolling down my face. The fragility of both the song and the view did something with me. Thank you for this touching performance!
Jag har också vandrat genom Flandern och de vackra kyrkogårdarna - " Only known by God"
Every time
Same here…I had to pull over and like you was driven to tears.
This song woke me up out of a deep sleep early Sunday morning and I haven't stopped listening to it since. It is so beautiful.
That's lovely..
One of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. I think of my beloved father whenever I hear it. He passed away in 2021 at 99, sixth months shy of his 100th birthday.
This proves that evil can be overcome with beauty play on play on!
Another example of great modern music. Beautiful! It deserves a much wider audience.
Played at my dads funeral, rest in peace dad❤️❤️❤️❤️
Totally master piece classic music I
KARL Jenkins given his master piece classic of the 21 century
Beautiful classic version
❤ So peaceful thank you Talit
The talented bro of Sir Andrew L. Webber…. Brilliantly played. What a beautiful and haunting piece of music! Well done all of you!
I’m in my city’s civic chorale and we’re currently performing the entire piece the armed man. This is one of my favorites to perform and if you haven’t listen to the whole piece you should.
I shared this at
Christmas time for those who have lost a loved one. I can 't imagine anyone holding back the tears. My condolences. That is a great loss.
Well Mr Webber if that is truly your rendition used for the Karl Jenkins video then I applaud your wonderful effort.....the rendition is wonderful
Music in is purity can conquer all I am certain
What is it about the cello?
Surely the most expressive instrument of all. Its very tone can trigger tears for a loved one.
Utterly beautiful
Only in special hands
How can anyone give this a "thumbs down"?
There's no pleasing some people, & some practice perversity as a lifestyle.
Because this is the antidote to all that is bad in the world
Many people are incapable of appreciating the beauty which surrounds the. Feel sad for them, it's their loss.
Guess it all boils down to literally three things: #1.Jealousy, #2.Lacking a soul & heart, #3.The 'type' of always being angry, sour and incapable to embrace........To both Karl Jenkins as Julian Lloyd Weber : 🏆 to the total orchestra & choir 🏆, thumbs up, make this 2020 a good safe X-Mas with all your loved ones, even wishing those 19 deaf lost souls having a healthy safe 2021.
The reason certainly cannot be because they thought it was not performed the way Karl Jenkins intended. He’s conducting.
It was the favorite masterwork I ever got to perform. Thank you Carl Jenkins.

Just magnificent
A perfect, heartfelt piece denoting much profound feeling - and a grave sadness over where humanity stands right now amidst so much illness, insecurity and a fear of the unknown. In just 2 years our world is no longer as we knew it....
Now it is Julians 70th happy birthday Julian x x

Julian is not poor, though he is old, and he hasn't ended his career.

Wait, slow down, let it go without you, become one with time and space, out of the blue... into an ephemeral moment of complete realization along with everything and nothing.

Mike u still sad bro?
i like dolphins
I've got crabs!
Поразительное сочетание инструментальной и голосовой составляющей коллектива.
Unbeschreiblich schön Danke😊
Such a beautiful, beautiful stretch of tender composition. I’m wondering if it derives from, or honors the spirit of, L’Homme Arme, the legendary Medieval masterpiece by by Guillaume Michaud.
At 5:17 I was struck by the suspicion that a peek back about 27 years ago might show a 3-yr-old timpanist driving his parents crazy. But life smiled at a mophead and they’re happy now.
Extraordinari... Quanta bellesa i serenor... 💚💫
Bet this is really good. Wish I could hear it.
Belíssimo!
❤️
I am feeling sad
Heavenly music, from what I know about Heavens, but, paradoxically, it seems to me that the 2 Cellos have the best interpretation rather than Karl Jenkins himself.
It's kind of a purifying music.

I have to go to a funeral
Subliem....
I have been sad lately
Mike, just try your very best to get through your sadness.
We must not be too much in love with the moods, thoughts and sensations of our organic-biological machine to observe impartially, remembering that it provides these distractions and seductions only for its own smug satisfaction. Our work just begins when we can see exactly what it is that we must struggle against. But what is our enemy now can also be our greatest ally in the Work. One big part of work is to learn how to turn these involuntary enemies into friends for work. How can we struggle against our Chief Weakness when it is only active during periods of deep sleep of the machine and is therefore invisible to our observation? We can listen to the machine’s thoughts and words as if listening to a stranger speaking on a radio over a long distance. We may be very shocked to hear some of the ideas which spring from the mouth of the machine, but do not reflect our ideas at all. E.J. Gold
The Music and the performance didn't need the silly pyrotechnics...
Very shocking to see how tragic music can be
My name is mike Robinson
