It really was! While the quality of the stop motion monsters varies from episode to episode, overall it was a very impressive output for a weekly TV series back in 1973.
Agree. It was an interesting experiment for sure. Some of the stop-motion monsters were very inventive. I would have loved to see where they would have taken the concept.
Using stop motion i guess is the downfall of this series. Rubber costume would be a more expensive at the start, but then you can just put a man in it & everything is a lot easier. While stop motion may look impressive at first, but the painstaking work of photographing every single frame actually made everything a lot more cumbersome at the end. There’s a reason why godzilla was a man in costume instead of stop motion as originally intended.
First time I've seen stop motion used in a tokusatsu series like Demon Hunter Mitsurugi. Quite innovative for its time.
