What about when you tell them you have an order for and you give them the persons name and they say 5 minutes. They get it ready, set it on the counter on the side where you can't see and don't even tell you it's ready. They completely forget. Time goes by when you could of been halfway there.

My home area is in the suburbs, and while one side borders some "city" zones, and there's another suburban zone to one side, the bulk of my zone borders no other zone. There are no restaurants out in the boonies. So, yes, there are lots of orders that if I drive 7 miles I will have to drive seven miles back before I'm back in any zone. But that's okay. I just consider that to be a 14 mile trip, and I want to be compensated for such. (And while there are some people who don't tip, most of the people out in the middle of nowhere know they need to tip.)
But I absolutely agree that the better your AR is, you'll see fewer garbage orders. And I'm not talking about getting up to 50%, or even 70%. I'm saying 85% or better. And I will tell you that if you're starting with an AR of less than 20%, it's going to be painful to get your AR high enough to make a difference, and I expect most Dashers who try to raise their AR will give-up before it makes a difference. But it's 2023, and if you don't make that commitment, it's time to find a new way to make money. What worked in 2020 and 2021 no longer works, and those who don't adapt will lose.
My AR has never dropped below 86%, and I consistently make $23/hour working 10am-5pm in the suburbs. Of course I could make more closer in, and working the dinner shift, and if $23/hour wasn't enough for me, I would. But I would still adjust my selectiveness to keep my AR high because I know it works.

Acceptance rate does not matter half the times, I was at 70 and it seemed like they kept giving me trash orders just so they could get it back down. Now I’m at like 20 😂😂

    • @jdankmorris77

I would just tell you this. From my experience in a larger market, my AR use to be in the toilet too. I also experienced reaching that 70 mark and DD really trying hard to push me back down. But I reached over 80, and the orders coming in are night and day. I worked about a week straight taking all orders, and even unassigning orders and declining them just to boost AR. My CR is at an 82, just above the 80 requirement. I encourage you to get that AR and experience the better dashing experience. Peace and safe driving

Ehhh I’ve taken plenty of orders outside my zone and got nothing back, nothing even close to the border of my zone. I had to be totally back inside my zone before getting any order at all. But I definitely do not look at base pay versus tip pay - I wouldn’t care if it said “alien on a rooftop” pay as long as the numbers are right and it goes to me. However I’m going to try going outside my zone (again) a few times this weekend and see what happens and report back.

Words of wisdom!!! You have to know the zone, the community, where to position yourself at what time. You have to know when to hold em and when to play em. I know 3 people that are and have been very sucessful at it. I been doing this 2 weeks and made 1600 some. I could have done better but I was new and have learned a TON. I aim to be successful , i try to aim for 25 an hour atleast. I recommend to stay away from certain neighborhoods at night, even if it pays good.

If AR is going to matter we should be able to blacklist a restaurant/Merchant/food place every 24 hours on a dont give me orders from here for 24 hours , this should be a toggle on and off check-list that way no more orders come from that restaurant for 24/hours or until you toggle it back to accept (for those who blacklist a place by accident) . Your completion rate and on time - Calculated after your able to pickup the food (that's when the clock should start) should be the metric for good orders and the only Metric . Did I get the delivery to your house on time based on the merchant handing me your order.

even when my AR is high there are still some days where they give me constant trash orders which then brings my AR down below 70%. That happened to me last month and I wasnt able to get it back to 70% on Oct 31st so this month I didnt get top dasher and its making it harder to dash for sure but I WILL get back to top dasher for december. Its true that you cant be successful without being top dasher or an AR at least close to top dasher anymore. In 2021 yes it didnt matter now it does

There have been days that I've had to sit for an hour to get an order. I also get bad order after bad order. Starting 2 months ago I started delivering in a larger area and it works for me. I definitely haven't seen a big difference in my offers due to my AR. I've been a top dasher and I've been as far down as 25%. Thanks for the info

Some markets are just not that profitable unfortunately. This weekend I was “active” with dd for almost 12 hours and made $160. Less than minimum wage in my state. It at 80% + AR and I take almost every order even if it’s low money. That’s the only way I can at least make something. If I pick and choose it starves me out.

I do not think you are reading his comment correctly. 7 miles into know where....meaning into the country....no restaurants...and then 7 miles back to an area with restaurants. You are assuming the 7 miles is into another zone that has restaurants where he can pick up an order on the way back. That is not what he is saying. This is actually the way it is in most of the country outside the suburbs and cities. What he is trying to say is...even being picky with his orders with an AR of 37 (not 17) and base pay of $2.50, he is averaging less than $1 per mile. Meaning that he is getting something like $13 to drive 14 miles round trip to make an average delivery.....140 miles for $130. You can also infer that if the average order is $13, he is only getting 10 order in 11 hours. It sounds like to me that this particular area does not provide enough density and wealth the support door dash.

So yes, there are more rural areas where they send you way out like he was talking about 7 miles out and nothing on the way back (our zone is absurdly huge too). There are gaps here where places either just do not have many restaurants or they close earlier than busier areas. That being said though, he needs to take some trash orders for a while to get his AR up because now that mine is up close to 80 or even over 80 at times, I get much better orders!! Id be curious if he has tried that yet, and also what area he is in. Im up in Washington state and the cost of living here is very high almost everywhere but that also means people habe money, and many will tip high.

FWIW for October 2023 in my market.
    85.8 hours active
    110.24 hours dash time
    $7.30 earned per dash
    252 dashes
    1633 miles driven
Earned for active time $21.43 hour.
    80% acceptance rate
2 restaurants black listed, one for parking and both are notoriously slow.
Won't shop so no dollar general some drug stores and the very rare Aldeis order. No alcohol ever.
I could dash longer but the active time to dash time ratio would decrease and the amounts per hour would increase.
Won't dash in bad weather or after dark.
    For now, I get by.

Some of the problems may depend on your town/city. I get offer’s every day that try to send me 10-18 miles out in the country. It’s a long deadhead back and there are No restaurants on the way. Smaller towns can mean unproductive miles. And I still get orders that say run with expected tip =2.00 or 2.50. And some are 5-7 miles away. My AR is 65% my CR is 5.0. I can’t drive 34 miles round trip for $10-12. Thankfully UE pays better most of the time but they have less work. So it’s a dance for me. Even if it makes me crazy, it’s a blast to do. There has to be a happy medium between making a little and paying DD to deliver some of these orders. They have offered some that the fuel cost more than the offer. I would think some of the bigger towns could be way more profitable. I just feel blessed to have what I have.

Ive had to take some of those orders, i feel his pain yet i still keep my AR currently at 75% so im getting good orders too, but there are Aholes that purposely don't wanna tip even when they get great service. I take my job seriously here but i do see customers being pains and even rude to me, just because they can. Its sad.
Now granted, some people shouldn't be dashing but me, i work for mine, but it still feels like punishment at times, would be nice if doordash raises their base pay, hasn't moved in 2 or more years yet inflation, keeps going up. Almost not worth it anymore 😢

It's weird that he didn't mention that your market is the biggest factor that determines what you can make. If your market is bad there's no strategy that will make it better.

Yeah I don’t think he mentions it enough. He’s in Charlotte North Carolina which is a major city. My town had about 100,000 residents and a large state university. I largely make bad money when I drive.

STOP referring drivers! The referral program is a scam and only benefits DD. The majority of drivers you refer aren't going to take it super serious and hit the recommended goal of deliveries for you to get your referral bonus anyway. DD knows this and they will win at the end cause they get a FREE DRIVER without having to pay you a referral bonus.

Hey Mr. Bentley! I love your advice and I’m pretty much where I should be to be a “Top Dasher,” but for the past few weeks I have not been receiving any priority Dash Now opportunities. Why??!!! These are my ratings!!!!

I really like this channel, but I can't get with the acceptance rate advice. I have never seen a substantial change in order quality based on acceptance rate. Mine is at 15%. The rest of my ratings are about that same as yours, and I recently received a $25 order for 10 miles. With tip, it was $71. I typically make a MINIMUM $15/hr with ONLY DD, and that's a BAD day for me. I know other TOP dashes, and they say the same as you. Now, I'm not saying to screw up that 83% or to not do better. I'm just saying that I haven't seen a substantial change in offers. The only difference I can tell is that you get more catering gigs with a higher AR. Otherwise.....🤷‍♂️

Hey Bentley! Here’s something no one tells you - DD Support is a joke! So far today, when checking my AR for the end of October, I’ve gotten three different answers from three separate support agents - 54, 68, and 69. But hey, as long as corporate DD can cash in off the backs of Dashers, who gives a…? DD is unaccountable.

Nice job Bently. Whem I get my AR above 70 I seem to get a lot more orders. It can drop very quickly though since a lot of them are the No go type. When I hit 69 I can drop it to 45 in 2 days. The key is to take some orders that you wouldn't want so that you get some that you do. I have deliver a $30 order three days in a row during lunch shift. I took some iffy orders and got myself near a restaurant that they would order from and got that big one. taking orders out of the zone can be thanked by doordash by giving you a good one. I have seen them thank you by giving you a second order with less pay to the same neighborhood. Thanks but no thanks DD.

    Hi Bentley
I have to agree with something you said about 4 years ago
DoorDash original pay model was more beneficial to dashers
Been a dasher for 6 1/2 years now
Pay is worse Acceptance rate really didn’t matter much then
Just looking back on hindsight all these drastic changes may not Beneficial to the Dasher, success
    Good content

If you’re doing DD or any other food delivery app, you are not putting yourself in a position for success. These apps are designed to give you minimum pay so you guys need to stop trying to make careers out of this nonsense. Just go get you a normal 9-5 job and done with it.

I know a guy pulling 2k a week off doordash 😂 & he lives in Virginia. You just have to learn your area and put the work in. If you enjoy the 9-5 shit that’s personal preference but we all know those aren’t livable wages in this economy. DD is a good hustle to stack up investment funds for your own goals/dreams

Dude you have no clue how these smaller markets work. Yes you can have orders that take you out in the country that are $2.5 total total and no you don’t have to come back to the city but where are you going to pick up orders in the middle of a field. Come on man you have always been on point but not on this.
