possibly this was a time where only 1 king was in office because of betrayal or loss of life or them just not being in sparta for the council this time
you mean sword infantry? because those spartan spears are still melee weapons in general use. its a very rare occasion that they would use it as a missile.
Actually in a fair amount of cases kicking with the flat of the foot can cause serious injuries, if his shin is well conditioned or he has a very strong bone structure he would probably end up with a bruised shin at the most
I love the total war series but to be honest, I would love to see the campaign gets cinematic video once you complete objectives. Let say once you are done with the first objectives depending on what you did well the cinematic will reflect on your choice that you did. It will be more thrilling to continue your campaign. I love the into cinematic before each campaign but the excitement of continuing to conquer dies later on.

The engine Rome II uses is amazing at animations. Like seriously, this and all other trailers are incredible in quality. It's a shame the game didn't live up to up to it, but these are still very entertaining to watch.
Creative Assembly: "But... Sparta wasn't a power in this time period... they were nothing. Besides, we need more time to finish the actual game." Sega: "Hey, Frank Miller made Spartans popular. And he make a story about guys who fucked little boys, and them dress them up as male strippers, and that story is popular, then we have to follow."
If you play the DLC you will see that there is no Rome in it. Only Greek City States and Persians (not really remember Persians, but probably). The whole DLC takes place during the Peloponnesian War (basically Athens VS Sparta) and it was always a power (in Ancient Greece at least, up until the Romans conquered them) . I'll agree on one thing, it has nothing to do with Rome and the Roman Era, so yeah it takes you on a completely different time period... It's a good DLC though
Cybermat47 no problem. Just in case you are interested you should check out some playthroughs and decide for yourself :) (you know.... since it's Steam Sales n' all :p )
+egw esu oh, I know about the Steam sales alright, I got R2TW and the blood DLC today :D I'm gonna start a proper campaign as either the Scipii (I got the Roman families mod) or the Iceni as soon as I finish my Citerioris Provinciae campaign in 'Hegemony Rome' :D
+egw esu I got 'Wrath of Sparta' today, and it's awesome. The period between the creation of the Agoge and the death of Alexander the Great is my favourite period of Greek history, and it's great to see the golden age of hoplites in Total War at last. I also have 'Hegemony Gold: Wars of Ancient Greece', which covers the beginning of the Peloponesian War, it's end, and the rise of Macedon, but while it's one of the best indie games I've ever seen, it just doesn't have the same realistic graphics as R2TW, and the gameplay is quite different. Now, to see if I can recreate the Battle of Thermopylae...
They should have made Alexander the Great from Makedonia if they wanted an ancient Greek campaign..that's more interesting than the overpowered Spartans...
He's also an empire genera/captain in Warhammer, and the spartan king also voices King Louen Leoncur, Karl Franz's voice actor can be heard in the senate in one of the other trailers.
"You would see all of greece under the heel of Athenai? Cowering from them like Chided slaves? We spilled blood at Poditia and now we need Allies. The might of Sparta will hold their ambitions! All eyes look on Sparta and this is what you would have them see? From birth a Spartan is trained for one purpose TO DO BATTLE. They dare think themselves you're equal. None can match your skill. It's every Spartans duty to embody the very nature of war. Strike now I beg you!" Man that is some great writing and a hard argument to turn down.
I'm reading Thucydides for the first time, and I just finished the part that matches the debate in this trailer... it's different, but I should expect that in a DLC trailer
After the Greco-Persian wars the term Greece/Hellas and Greek/Hellen was used a lot not only by the common people but by historians. The greatest examples are Thucidides, Xenophon and Herodotus. They knew they where Greeks but there wasn't a grown national spirit that'w why we had many conflicts together. However, we have been united at this time many times with the most known examples being the panhellenic alliance with Philip and Alexander and the alliance against the Persians during the Greco-Persian wars. The fact that this term existed back then can be proved , also, with the fact that only Greeks could participate in the Olympic Games and in many other festivals, events etc and there is a really epic :D phrase: "Πας μη Έλλην βάρβαρος" which means whoever is not Greek is barbarian. I hope I helped a bit :)
When you look at how he kicks the guy with the chest plate In reality . It would either hurt or be cold and hurt. He lifted his foot up while his top part of the foot was sliding up into the chest plate Allowing him to not really Kick But more slide kick
This is the perfect example of the change in TW style. When before their work was used by the history channel, now they aim for unrealistic blockbuster movies? It seems its becoming less of a game for the history nut, and more a streamlined game for non-intrigued masses...
Beornwahl None of this happens in the actual game. Thats just cinematic fluff for the trailer. If you played Rome 2 after they fixed everything, the fighting is pretty realistic
On a side note...one of the several things that drove me crazy about Rome II was those weird arm and leg shadows. Are they supposed to be dirt, weird moving tattoos, moving shadows, leeches, or something similar to Rorschach's mask from the Watchmen?
So when i got the dlc for the Greek states it added the heroes of Sparta but then the royal Spartans don’t have their spartan helmets anymore, they just look like normal soldiers. Is there a way to change that?

spartan hoplites should have the friggen ability to SWITCH to sword/spear
Spartans only use their swords when they lost or broke their spears but historically they often prefer to use spears
the sword was a secondary weapon to the spear for the Hoplites(not only spartans). They would draw it only if they lost/broke their spear in combat
It would be cool if they had a melee unit instead of all spears
you mean sword infantry? because those spartan spears are still melee weapons in general use. its a very rare occasion that they would use it as a missile.
Felipe Tangcalagan no I dont mean sword infantry. Have ever played the game?
Did the guy in 1:15 just kick the enemy's bronze breastplate with just sandals on?
That seems like a really good way to break some toes.
