OMG thank you for the explanation. I'll use your video to introduce this tradition to my English friends. I'll be burning an Año viejo with them this year in England and I needed a video that explains it to include it in some cards that I'll be giving them.
Well, you got your wish for more subs for 2020. At 43K and rising, you knocked the ball out of the park. As far as "monigotes" go, your Ecuador ruler on 12/20/2020 deemed them verboten for the end of 2020. Somehow they promote the spreading of C19. What a shame. Looks both therapeutic and fun. Thanks for the video and great demonstration.
Thanks! We're really excited about our growth in subs and views! The monigotes lead to large crowds of people standing around and drinking heavily. That's why he banned them this year. Monigotes are just an excuse to drink and PARRTAYYY!
We were there last New Years Eve. It was great me and my gringo kids had a blast with my wife’s family. So many rogue fireworks. We wish we were there this year Happy New Years! CHEERS
Hi there! Caught this because we (my husband and I) will be in Cuenca in February. Might even bump into you around town. Who knows, it's not a big place. Meanwhile, gorgeous earrings, Amelia. Care to share where you got them? Oh, and jumping over a bonfire is reminiscent of the old British Beltane celebrations.
We got those earrings by the New Cathedral in the little popup feria a long time ago, but we haven't seen them since then. I'm sure you can find them in some of the tiendas.
🎉🎉 HAPPY NEW YEAR 2020. Amelia y JP. You must expirience the burning of monigotes here in Salinas. I love your videos and I am sure you will recieve more suscriptors.
A little bit similar to the burning of the Zozobra huge paper- filled effigy before the fiestas time around Labor Day in Santa Fe, New Mexico. That is also meant to burn bad memories /bad thoughts of the prior year.
HAPPY NEW YEAR...Will be waiting for your next videos...Wish I could handle the altitude there because I'd really love to visit....Stay safe and a Blessed New Year...

I watched this after your next video, a bit backwards, it's nice to have an explanation as to the shenanigans happening on New Year's Eve!
One of the traditions I miss every year. Glad you enjoyed it.
It's a lot of fun!

Happy New Year. I Don't believe in superstitions. I believe in God
Thanks for your report and video sharing, but I am against this celebrations, because the smoke cause a lot of health issues you guys know better...
We don't like the smoke or the loud fireworks either. Daisy has been terrified for the past several days and hiding in the closet.
@@AmeliaAndJP Yeah, poor doggies, here in NYC happens the same on July 4th :-(
