It's funny also because Denzel has so many films in his repertoire that are far from famous or well-remembered or iconic, but all of them really quite entertaining, decently interesting, good solid thrillers/action, nothing that ever gets too lazy/stupid like some big stars can delve into sometimes, even the mediocre ones are at least fun or weird. For me personally, he's the most consistent actor, that every film I see from him he never lets down, whether he's a brilliant actor or no, he's consistently entertaining and consistently engaged.
I don't know why but the last three years I spent watching trying to watch almost every film he's been in from Philadelphia to The Little Things, although I've strangely avoided some of the more famous mainstream ones.
I watched Movies like Crimson Tide (brilliant), Courage Under Fire (very great), Fallen, The Siege, The Bone Collector, Training Day, John Q, Out of Time, Man on Fire, The Manchurian Candidate, Inside Man, Deja Vu, American Gangster, Unstoppable, Flight, Equalizer1-2, Magnificent Seven, Fences. (Also A Soldier's Story (1984), Glory (1990) & Ricochet (1991)). The strange thing is that none of these films are not interesting at least, and that's a hard feat for a big name, even the best stars make schlock. Some of these films there is so many interesting elements to discuss, like Out of Time is a fantastic old-fashioned 70s type hard-boiled thriller, The Siege is a blockbuster failure but super interesting in its political context, Deja Vu does time-travel thriller in a unique way, Unstoppable is way underrated on the level of Runaway Train but with superb action, Flight has one of his best performances by far, The Manchurian Candidate is a fascinating remake that isn't as good as the original but still worth discussing. Fallen is such a fascinating occult thriller that also fails to land well. Glory and A Soldier's Story are very underrated as historical films, especially the latter which combines detective-mystery film with exploring race relations in a military base in the South in WW2, very unique period-piece.

It’s insane to me that I’ve seen his movies, I’ve remembered his characters and yet I only found out his name now. Usually that’d mean I just forgot that they were in the movie but no. Legit- he melts into his roles. So much so that when you were listing off the characters my brain didn’t recognize them as the same person. Maybe I’m tired or something but I think that’s just insane to me.

That might be a personal thing for you. It's very uncommon to not know the man's name lol. He's definitely skilled and he plays certain types very well but I wouldn't necessarily categorize him as one of those actors that melts into a role and that's nothing against his insane career. Easily one of the greatest actora EVER. but his type is more in the vein of those actors that have incredible star power and have picked the right roles for their talents consistently.
A chameleon would be someone like Gary Oldman. The man forgot his own accent lmao. That's gotta be really troubling.

I remember going to see 'Flight' at the cinema. I wasnt in a good place mentally or morally. I was on my own and just totally absorbed in the movie. I hung on every word, action, emotion and expression that Denzel portrayed.
I am one of those people who hates to worship or profusely praise celebrities.
But Denzels portrayal of lying, guilt, addiction, deceit and then eventually surrender and repentance, in Flight, spoke to me and helped me start to face addictions and lies in my own life.
I wouldnt say this about the majority of actors but if i met Denzel, i think id probably cry and thank him for counselling me somehow!
It just goes to show, when you approach your craft or vocation with devotion and excellence then you have no idea the impact that can have on others. A bit cheesy i know, but i mean it.

It's this one life you get and the people who might dismiss the knowledge and understanding you've gained all alone by yourself after failing at life in a myriad of ways as being "cheesy" do not deserve your thoughts, let alone your well meaning, helpful words through your companionship.
If you try and approach everything in life with that same level of humility, openness, understanding and vulnerability, like you did by chance on that day, you'll keep growing as a human being.
Don't expect every single thing in life to cater to whatever random emotional state you might be in at any given moment.
You'll learn that the majority of people around you stopped growing as soon as they realized that they could say no to anything and anyone they disliked.
Such people were failed in life by a lot of people and they become the kind of human beings who convince themselves that acting the contrarian is being a critical thinker and from then on their life is ruled by their feelings, which are highly volatile and easy prey to manipulation.
Approach every thing with a sense of curiosity and a set purpose and you'll find that there is always something to appreciate and learn from, even from the most universally disliked thing, be it a dish, book, song, movie, etc.

@Clif87 I believe that there are a lot of people who'd tell you or anyone else similar things but they are how I used to be, that is, keeping to themselves and afraid of negative criticism that might ruin their day or make them confront their shortcomings.
Always remember that awareness of any of this seemingly pretentious and philosophical jargon, while helpful, is not the only thing that is required for effective recovery and growth.
You have to keep putting in the work, even on your worst days you keep learning, gathering your thoughts, being aware of every burden that drags you down and noting down all the pitifalls you fell into.
Don't run away from any of your thoughts, accept your mistakes, the reality of your situation and own your mind. Nobody can take that peace and mental discipline away from you until you allow it.
Keep standing up and keep moving forward.

This video presents an incredibly compelling case for why Denzel Washington is not just a great actor, but a transformative one who excels both artistically and commercially. Your analysis balances key attributes that make him a standout-ranging from his longevity to the distinct sense of authority he brings to each role.
One point that particularly resonated with me was the discussion on Washington's Range. Whether he's playing a morally complex cop in Training Day or an inspiring football coach in Remember the Titans, Washington is not confined by genre or character type. He can make us root for him, despise him, or most interestingly, feel a complicated mix of emotions toward his characters. This sort of versatility is rare and contributes significantly to his longevity in the industry.
The section about Belief-Washington's uncanny ability to make us believe in the characters he's portraying-is crucial. Washington doesn't just act; he becomes. This level of immersion is a testament not only to his acting skills but to his commitment to each role. This is closely linked with your point about 'Authority.' When Washington steps into a scene, he commands it. This isn't just about star power; it's about an innate ability to dominate the emotional landscape of the film.
Lastly, the part about 'The Preparation' was insightful. Washington’s extensive prep work demonstrates that achieving this level of mastery is no accident. He dives into the psychology, background, and motivations of his characters, often going above and beyond what the script offers. It's this in-depth understanding that allows him to deliver nuanced performances that resonate with a broad audience, ensuring both critical and commercial success.
The New York Times might have their '25 Greatest Actors of the 21st Century,' but lists like that often don't capture the breadth and depth of an actor's impact. In this case, your video succeeds where many such lists fail by offering a nuanced, well-reasoned argument that Denzel Washington is not just a great actor or a box-office draw but an ideal fusion of both.
Great job on this video! It’s content like this that keeps us coming back for more. Subscribed and looking forward to your future analyses!

When I think of male movie stars I immediately think of Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Idris Elba, Matt Damon, Will Smith, etc. But when I think of male actors I think Denzel, Anthony Hopkins, Robert De Niro, Daniel Day-Lewis, Chadwick Boseman, Clint Eastwood, Sidney Poitier, etc.
The former are people who don't necessarily put up immaculate performance every thine they're on screen, but there's a likeability factor to their acting that draws people to the movie theatre. The latter are people you know have the sheer skill and talent to carry a film even with a middling script because they're such power entities that they transcend the performance. They're also very private in their lifes and treat acting as a blue collar job with their work ethic.

    • @Risingofthephoenix
      @Risingofthephoenix Год назад +2

Omg yes I totally see what you mean now its almost as if a lightbulb went off in my head. For the former also throw in Matthew McConaghey, Jack Nicholson, George Clooney, and Tom Hanks too! The former that you refer to as the male movie star to me I agree with your analysis everything about them screams “Flashy” but in a good way very Hollywood the cheerleaders and mascots of Hollywood they are quite loveable, an actors actor if you will. They may not always have winning roles but they’re so damn charming and effervescent they captivate audiences everywhere.
And latter I also agree with your analysis! And might I also throw in Christian Bale, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Kevin Spacey (i know he’s ick and disgraced but he wouldve fit this category imo), Shia LaBouef (he may be controversial opinion but he proved himself as a force to be reckoned with in the world of acting and can hang with the best of them), and Joaquin Phoenix are the ones I also think of would fit into your male actors category. They are the reason why acting was created. They are the writers actual muses. They embody the authentic origins of acting they are artists they are storytellers they are transformers that sacrifice who they are and just give themselves completely over to their art. They are the ones where they dont need Hollywood, Hollywood needs them.
All of these actors will be cemented in history.
(ps There’s two actors however I find slightly difficult to place them cause they don’t quite fit in either category but yet they somehow do. They are on my mind cause they have a special place in hollywood too. Its Keanu Reeves and Jim Carrey)
