- Welcome to my channel! Everyday here in Japan I'm finding treasures and adding them to my collection. Here's Ep.164: Another GRAIL here on EDT....the original, first year La Nuit De L'Homme. These go for crazy prices on the secondary market in the western world....but not here in Japan. In this video, I compare a 2009 batch to a clone that smells very similar.

nothing compares to the first formulation gorgeous fragrance.
I agree. After trying several versions, this one smells the best.
@@eaudetreasurewhat difference in scent is there between older and the new formulations?
@@JRtheBoy I haven't had a newer bottle. But from testing at the stores, the original formula was richer and stronger in performance. The modern is slightly sweeter and weaker in performance.

I know, but I don't know if I'll ever have a place to display it all together. I'll probably display and sell off 100 or 200 at a time.
Absolute gold. Currently have about 500ml of the OG juice. The best!

How many bottles is that and what did you pay? Just curious. How do the bottles compare to each other? They can't all be the same..?
@@eaudetreasure So there are 2 versions here, 8yb02-1 and 8yb02-2. The juice in -1 is slightly darker and is the first production batch. -2 is almost the same, I really can't tell a difference in performance or overall scent profile. In my opinion -2 is only slightly lighter shade of almost the greenish orange color you'd find of the -1 in a brand-new box which was not exposed to any light. I have opened a few bottles of -1 and the juice is super dark, greenish orange. I have 3 bottles 60ml, 1 bottle 100ml, and 1 bottle 200ml, all are almost full or never sprayed. Also have an unopened bottle of la Nuit limited collection 100ml.
@@eaudetreasure My 100ml bottle of 2009 -1 juice looks like your bottle does as far as color. I know mine was not kept in the box because when I purchased it, it was outside the box. Possibly exposure to the light, lightens the color. IMO it hasn't affected the scent or longevity.

The four-digit batch code is where it's at!
I also own 2009 formula and a recent 2022 formula. The 2022 was so weak at first but after 1 year it macerated and now it's a lot fuller and richer. Of course, the original 2009 it's still better but regarding the difference of their prices (I mean 2009 vs a recent formula).. I would rather purchase a recent formula for reasonable prices and let it macerate. Anyway, fantastic fragrance and I do love it.

Can you do a blind smell test to see if people prefer the old formulation to the newer one? Blindfolded I doubt I could tell a difference.
I like that idea. Wish I had a newer one. I have a clone but I don't want to make fans cry if the clone wins the battle.

@danielfl.9347 Thanks! As for Bleu Elec....I haven't tried it. I won't pay that money for a bottle. But I'm soon going to try one of the clones (Lattafa Caprice). I'll record a LNDL clone video soon, I have a few more clones.
But on Checkfresh 9EAA is 2019 batch not 2009.
Look at the sticker type. That's the vintage style sticker.
How does it compare to the modern?
I tested both a year ago, the original is richer and longer-lasting than the modern.
hey how would you compare this to Bleu electrique? Lots of people saying bleu is kinda like OG
Did you watch the video ;-)? I don't have Bleu Electrique. If I get it, will compare.
@@eaudetreasure I LOVE bleu electrique, thinking about grabbing frozen cologne as well. I hear both are really well done.
@@HavokCloud Frozen is discontinued and expensive. I have a video on it. I really want to get BE because it's all the rage. I ordered a clone of it (Projekt Alternative) but who knows if I will ever get it.

i typed in my batch code it says 2006
Do you have the box? You have to go by the clues. What type of batch code (4 digits or the longer one?).
There's no 2006 batch. Earliest batch in 2009 January.
Either your batch is a repeat (every 10 years) or something is up. The only way to know is the middle letter attached to the code like 62H305 on one of my spares (which is 2011). There's 4 letter vintage 2009 batch and 2010, and after starts with 62Hxxx for 2011 and so on. 2013 Batch has a K, and 2014 has an L.
Someone else wrote about formulas from the boxes and here's what they said:
The original formulation on the back of the box says:
8YB02-1
...apparently this one is great, and everyone goes on about it
Then the first reformulation on the back of the box says:
8YB02-2
...this one I own a bottle of this that I think is from 2014
Apparently there is also a reformulation that on the back of the box says:
8YB02/2
...never seen one of these but is said to be crap!
The latest ones say:
C167049/1
...so that includes things from 2016 and all the way up to the most recent ones
@@Luci_S The 8YB02-2 also includes 2010 bottles which is the same scent as the 2009. The scent is supposed to change a bit in 2011 to become brighter. You can have a 8YB02-2 bottle that shows the address as B.R.I 28-31 Bd Du Parc and that means its a 2010 which is the same as 2009 in scent. If your box has YSL Beaute and 8YB02-2 then thats 2011 onwards and the scent had its first change in 2011
