    I have heard a few people speak negatively about the look of Loial in the show, he's not big enough, the ears don't twitch, etc, but what I have not heard is a single complaint about the performance, Hammed is nailing it!

      Yeah, the performance is awesome, but I hope they refine the look a bit. And I cannot stand the pronunciation of his name. I wish the show would acknowledge that the audio books established how things are spoken.

      Yess sir, hammed performance is the reason y looks r not looked into right now. The moment he spoke everyone knew that's loial. He looks different in books, he is 8 feet tall, dropping eyebrows,eyes big as a teacup and longs ears like elves that twitch, that's how all ogiers look, but ig they can't do all for a character and creatures that r not maincast in the show .

    So happy they went into the detail about Stepin's funeral. I saw and heard so much chatter about how Daniel was acting out the intense emitional "feedback loop" between Lan and Moiraine when, to me, it seemed more like Lan was a conduit for EVERYONE'S pain and grief and that was the reason his renown stoicism broke in such a colossal way. Very gratifying to hear Daniel confirming this was more or less the story behind his acting choice.

      I doubt it will get cancelled. The shows seems to be popular. Then again, wouldn't be the first time a show gets cancelled anyway. I really like the show, but I do have issues with it related to the production and the adaptation. Like things that don't really make sense, or the sacrifice of good book stuff for non-book sidesteps even though we only have eight episodes (I really hope the last two episodes aren't rushed). And it is obvious they are on a limited budget. For instance, I had to laugh a little when Logain's "army" invaded the Aes Sedai camp and then a few dozen men showed up.
      I have accepted that WoT won't have the same production value as Game of Thrones, but to at least make it look decent throughout, they'll need a lot more money for the VFX, real effects, extras, horses, costumes/armour, set pieces etc.

    why did the funeral of Kerene and a whole bunch of other people lack the scope of Stepin's? it looks like one man's death is a huge deal -- and all these other people in the forest just get this really reserved and low-key sen-off.

    • @athomenotavailable

      Because Salli Richardson is a terrible director and Celine Song is a terrible scriptwriter. Both do not care about plot logic because they have no sense of what the characters and audiences think. • @maryxmas9921
      @maryxmas9921 2 года назад

      @@selina6408 you don't need much to wail, right? when Stepin brought Kerene's ring to melt -- there were only other Warders. the more I think about these scenes the more questions I have. (I have no questions as to the shrouds and glasses -- we've been shown that Aes Sedai travel with comfort, it is not a strecth). I have a real-life example to compare -- Russia is waging war against my country, Ukraine, and when another military dies on the front line, their bodies are carried to their home town and there people in the streets greet the fallen hero, some stand on their knees. isn't Kerene a war hero? doesn't she deserve more postmortem respect than her Warder who took his own life?

  • @stevebohn4439
    @stevebohn4439 2 года назад +9

    I'm glad you took out Caemlyn to waste time on Stepin. You fridged an Aes Sedi, to fridge her warder, to get Lan to yell. Many of your decisions do not make sense to me. If anyone wants an honest review and some better character choices that could have been made check out Shad's Knights Watch Wheel of Time reviews.

      We will still see Caemlyn

    • @robbybevard8034
      @robbybevard8034 2 года назад +4

      They've said multiple times Caemlyn is season 2. They didn't want to cast four long term main characters for like 5 minutes of screen time in this season. And its one less megaset to build for the season which was good for the budget.
      And Stephin... That... wasn't about the random warder. That was about Lan and Morraine. It was barely even subtext, it was practically text. That subplot demonstrated the warder bond, what happens when they lose it, what it means for someone to accept that bond, talked about if it could be transferred. If its possible to be in love with someone that isn't your Aes Sadai, so it was also about Nynaeve, and Morraine thinking about if she has any right to keep holding onto Lan.. It also addressed trauma in general which is a major thee of the series. It got across exposition and inner monologues that would have taken hours to do without examples, and did it all in a *subplot* in *one* episode.
      And if you've read the books, you KNOW why that will all be relevant later and why its important to introduce it before it happens.
      Yeah it was an invented subplot, but it consolidated and explained a ton of material and showcased it in memorable visceral way that just might just pay off later in a number of ways, given there's several later plotlines that development can spill into.
      Plus, it's a show, not a book, there needs to be plots that actually start and end within an episode occasionally. It can't always just be nonstop ongoing narrative.

      @@tay-dor7147 Trollocs are in scattered occasional scenes. You can afford to do 10 hours of makeup and camera tricks when you only need a handful of shots. Loial is going to be in the main group constantly interacting with them.
      Start adding size tricks to him and he becomes an extra cost every time he shows up which eventually leads to his getting cut.
      LotR had an 100 million budget per 2 hours of footage per movie. WoT has an 80 million budget for 8 hours of footage. Just because a film can afford the time and budget to do a thing doesn't mean a show can. Same with full CG characters.

      Go back and watch the special features for The Fellowship of the Ring again and remember that those "camera tricks" are so much more than just using the camera. They had to make multiple sizes of every prop and set, that crazy moving rig that let them do tracking shots while keeping Gandalf huge and so much more than just "camera tricks". Those things cost money.

    Love the work Hammed did as Loial. Absolutely believe the costuming and design of his look completely dropped the ball. Even if I agree with the budget being a factor, they could have done simple in camera forced perspectives to make Loial at least be the right height. We got book accurate Trollocs but they couldn't be bothered to get a book accurate fan-favorite main character?

    It's a disaster. I hope the series will be cancelled, what's the point of continuing if you can't even keep the story of the books straight, and on top of that, cinematographically it's even worse, VFX leaves something to be desired. Just stop and let other people take care of it.

    • @angelavm84
      @angelavm84 2 года назад +5

      If it gets cancelled nobody will 'take care of it'. Nobody will touch it again for decades, maybe never, because it failed. If you don't like it fine, but hoping for it to fail is mean-spirited & won't get you anything. So far most people watching it, love it. If you really care for the books, then hope for it to continue to grow so it can evolve into something both you, happy book-readers and the newbees can enjoy.

    Visually on par with the other episodes, but defies logic which makes me back out of my immersion. Why were they carrying so many clean white shrouds and broken murky brown glasses? And the funeral at the end is cool in concept, but not in execution, because it's not like Lan was an empath and could really absorb everyone's grief.
    Loial's actor did a good job under the limited scenes he was given. But his character was so cardboard, no background no personality other than the standard Ogier personality. Loial is adventurous and wants to write the book of the dragon reborn. And he should definitely have pointed out the greatest oddity of an Aiel using a sword.
    Salli Richardson is a terrible director and Celine Song is a terrible scriptwriter. Both do not care about plot logic because they have no sense of what the characters and audiences think. They just fill in the checkboxes that they are assigned in episode 5, then try to make it look cool on it's on.
    Please get Wayne Yip to direct everything from now on

      Best to just ignore those people as they likely watch with pitchfork in hand and never hand any intention of enjoying an adaptation. Sadly, I doubt this will change that.
      It's baffling how someone could expect a book series with upwards of 4 million words to not have pretty substantial amounts of changes when going to screen.

    • @EauxmahaTiger
      @EauxmahaTiger 2 года назад +1

      Having Lan show grief especially in such a dramatic, prolonged, and public fashion is completely antithetical to his character. Daniel Henney even says in this video, and I quote "Lan is someone who doesn't show emotion. So I struggled with that a lot." These actors/actresses arguably know better than most the spirit of the characters they are meant to portray. So if Henney is struggling with the show's writing for his character then it's not far fetched that book fans might feel the same way.
