Well yeah you could use it for designing and editing, however, only with apps you find either on the Chrome, or Google Play Store. Since the Pixelbook is running Chrome OS it doesn't actually give you the option to install full programs like Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Sony Vegas etc.
The Pixelbook is something like a laptop for school on-the-move office workers (i.e. Business people w/e), but it is not worth 1000$, no matter how many arguments you bring against that statement.

$1,100 total....... Plus tax... Yeah, I rather buy a Windows laptop. Oh, and for the higher end, that's $1,600 plus pen making it $1,700.... For a fucking Chromebook. I'd use that money for a gaming laptop. Spending almost $2K on a laptop that only uses Google Chrome, yeah no.
You can currently buy a decent Surface Tablet with keyboard cover for the same price. Which includes the pen.
If the Surface products didn't exist, this chromebook might make sense, but at 1000$, I'd much rather have Windows or MacOS

A lot of people used to buy Macbooks because of the high end hardware and put Linux on them for dev machines. Now because the touch bar is basically aids, there's not a great machine on the market that fits the build quality and hardware needs of those devs while still maintaining that aesthetic.
Because Google wants to beat Apple in the race to be the first company ever in history to achieve a $1 Trillion valuation. Apple is close at $900B, Google's at $718B, while Amazon, Facebook & Micosoft's at $541B, $518B & $646B respectively.

The reason school computers are slow is because they are cloud based (at least in my school) they load data from a server. We have laptops with core i5 (older generation but it still should be good enough) but they're really slow and again that's because they run on a server.

This is a massive waste of money as you can get a windows gaming laptop or even get a mac. Both have a wider range of programs compared to the extremely limited chrome OS and you can just get android apps on a tablet.

1. The Pixel C Tablet: Pixel C and Pixelbook both supports android apps but Pixelbook also has the ability of a PC/Mac based chrome browser with chrome web store. Also as shown in the video Pixel Phone and the Pixelbook looks that they're of the same family but the Pixel C tablet doesn't look that it is of the same family. So google must ditch the Pixel C tablet.

2. The Chrome OS: If the chrome OS contains only a browser and supports android apps then why android tablets are present? A PC or a Mac is far more better than a chromebook or a chromebox. So google must ditch chrome OS.

I am using a Chromebook for high school that the school gave to us for the four years we're here, and I love the simpleness of it. It's a great device if you want something that's not for hardcore "gaming" to watch RUclips or browse the web that's not on your phone. It's bigger than a phone, but not as developed as a full on computer/laptop.

TheBubonic Plague yeah i know. 8gb of ram will never really be used unless the user is the type of person that keeps 50 tabs open. sure it can run android games, but they are optimized for mobile devices so it wouldn't make a difference
with remote desktop to a PC at home and linux installed via chroot I've personally found the chromebook in general to be an awesome machine for work/school and everyday use. I even installed Steam on mine and it was great. That said I wouldn't spend more than $300 on one.

Not getting the same build quality or materials. Your laptop is most likely bulkier, made of plastic, and most like has a lower res (probably 1080p) matte display with bad viewing angles. Specs aren’t everything.

I have one and cannot fault it. Perfect writing and note taking machine for work, and the screen is lovely for watching movies/TV. Superb industrial design. Compliments other laptops, not replaces them. Give it a year for real pro level web apps to appear, and then it will be all you need.

If you want you can press Esc-Refresh-Power, then press Ctrl+D and Enter to enter developer mode which would let you change your OS.
In general, a PEN, first and foremost, is a SHARPER FINGER, so for eg. you can use tiny nobs in audio apps and make precise selections and such in graphics apps.

Asking why someone would pay $1,000 for a Chromebook is like asking why someone would spend more money for a compact sedan when you could buy an SUV or truck for around the same price. Because the two things are not the same!!! For a person who does all of their gaming on a console (OMG do such people really exist?) and has no need for such high end tasks as video editing and loathes the Windows OS like poison but still has the means to purchase a high end gadget, this little beauty makes perfect sense. Before you go off on some kind of "you're just stupid if you'd buy this..." rant, consider this: I was a professional desktop support coordinator for many years after I worked as a mainframe software engineer, so I kind of know what I'm talking about when it comes to Windows PC's, Mac's, etc...

A $1000 pixelbook lets you use its full potential by putting it into developer mode. You now have Chrome OS, plus Android apps, and using crouton you can install one or more Linux desktop OSes that run along side chrome os and android apps.
$1000 for my friends and I to fuck around in google docs during a lecture. Great!

What is this thing competing against? The HP Spectre x360 costs like $1550 for an i7 (which is 8th gen not 7th), 16 GB of RAM, a 512 GB NVMe SDD, 4K screen and it even comes with the pen. Where as the top of the line pixelbook with similar(ish) specs would cost $1700 with the pen. And of course the HP comes with windows so you can really make use of the hardware. I personally don't see the need for anything more that an i3 just to run chrome. Even if you are running it on a windows PC.

Blastboys the macbook air should have been discontinued a long time ago but if you want to compare them. Id still choose the air since it at least has software that you can use your CPU on. Personally i use a surface pro since its a great all rounder and i dont need a tablet.

Well I love mine - I work using G-Suite and do everything in the cloud, so a CB is for me. I am not saying that it is perfect as an OS (yet), and the implementation of Android apps has been kludgy, but it is getting there. And the hardware is to die for.
As an "artist" the only pen that I can possibly reccomend is the apple pencil on the cheapest new iPad you can get. All other tech pens are poor imitations sadly unless you want to get a dedicated drawing pad

heck, if you need flexibility (i imagine compatibility) and features windows has you covered for that price point. only 8 gigs but it should have a touchscreen, or you could give up the touchscreen and go full mobile workstation.

The thing about the Pixelbook and Chrome OS in general is that it's constantly improving itself. In just a few weeks Chrome OS will have stable support for Linus apps. This gives Chromebook users access to a whole host of new software. This is good news for gamers too as Steam is going to be supporting Windows games on Linux. Pixelbook users have gone from a device that runs Chrome and a select group of optimized Android apps to being able to run most Play Store apps properly, Linux apps, and games like CS:GO over the course of one year. Chrome OS is only going to get better and is a pretty well future proofed device. I think the current $750 price tag is easily justified and a decent investment into a laptop that will easily last you through 2020.
