Bruce also played piano on some mega hits. His playing is unmistakable.
When you realized.....perfection. Grateful this masterpiece was brought to an entirely new generation, it's magical. Let the message ring.
Bruce Hornsby is not a new artist This is '80s music
Lol. Pretty funny.😅😂
Lol. Pretty funny.😅😂
Obviously he knows that lmao he means a new artist to him
Bruce's piano playing is mesmerizing! "Mandolin Rain" is another huge hit of his.
Yes, so good!!
Like a drug....
Yes, so, soooo good!!! BRUUUCE!!!
That one always hits me hard. And the cover of it by Pam Tillis hits even harder.
The most important line "aaaah but don't you believe them".
I am amazed how many RUclipsr’s never heard the original. Perhaps they need to broaden their collective perspectives.
Under a certain age, a lot of people of have never heard of the Beatles. We're old. Get over it. 🙂
Is that not exactly what he’s doing?
And there you go, reinforcing the very theme of this song and not realizing it. Maybe you should in turn listen to more Tupac as well. Or is that ‘just the way it is’?
Bruce Hornsby is definitely not a one hit wonder. He has several albums (the old term) and a number of hits, including this one. He was well-known back in the day.
Hornsby took the term "Tickling the ivory's" to new heights ❤
This whole album is fire.
Seeing the realization on your face made this entire video! ❤
Bruce did it first !!! 😆
@@its_me_flee8188 Tupac’s talent was limited.
@@MS-ns2pjthat’s nonsense. They both recognized each other as very talented.
@@L3x4Pr0ne Sure. Sure they did. Tupac’s talent was indeed limited. He was not a musician and he did not have the ability to create music.
@@L3x4Pr0neyou can't compare a rapper/song writer.. to a musician. They both good in their own right.. but Tupac used this song for a reason not the other way around.
Bruce Hornsby is a boss 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
All the reaction videos to this song are priceless when folks realize Bruce is the original OG for Tupac's Changes, minds blown!!! I LOVE IT
❤❤❤❤absolutely!!!
It actually took longer in this reaction. A lot of people recognize it after four chords.
Bruce Hornsby also played piano on Bonnie Raitt's "I cant make you love me".
If I understand correctly this song was at least partially addressing Apartheid and the policies of it. Bruce Hornsby plays just about any style of music there is. He has three Grammys,Best New Artist, Best Bluegrass Album and Best Pop Instrumental Performance. Besides his group he has worked with multiple artists including three years with The Grateful Dead. You have probably heard him even if you don’t realize it because he has composed and performed for multiple projects with Spike Lee including the 2009 Kobe Bryant special on ESPN. Truly a versatile talent in the music industry. I think he had a new album out in May of 2022 and he will be on tour this summer.
I read that it is actually referencing the Economic Opportunity Act and Civil Rights Act of 1964 in the U.S. Under Aparthide the social welfare system focused mainly on poor whites and excluded blacks. The allocation of social welfare resources favoured whites.
That’s a good explanation. It definitely makes a point to point out the absurdity of labeling people without knowing them.
Bruce says this song was inspired by things he saw growing up in rural Virginia
L O V E D your reaction!!
I saw Bruce Hornsby & The Range in the 80's. Brilliant composition!
Yep, THE original. I saw them at the Rainbow Music Hall in Denver in 1986. They were oh, so good. They had several other hits: "Every Little Kiss" and "Mandolin Rain."
Heh heh... I saw the same show! 😄
Same here and at mcnichols arena with the greatful dead as well .
"Long Valley Road" and "Mandolin Rain" are a couple of other hits.
Beautiful songs 🥰
Bruce is a 6'5" former basketball 🏀 player here in Virginia Beach area. Tupac sampled two Bruce Hornsby and the Range songs.
He had another great song called Mandolin Rain.
I love that song!!!
I wasn’t alive in the 80’s but this song makes me feel like I was there and makes me happy.
Bruce Hornsby is one of the best pianist ever. His style is
Ike no one else. This is his biggest and most enduring hit but every song he plays on is elevated by his piano stylings. If you like this song, you’ll love his whole album. He creates so much joy and whimsy in a song that is so dark in so many ways. You can’t help but be moved by the song. Check out Mandolin Rain. That song is beautiful
There is not one single dud on that freshman album. BRUUUCE!!!
Sir Elton John is a huge admirer of Bruce Hornsby and his piano skills and has said as much quite openly.
What Bruce Hornsby doesn't know about playing the piano isn't really worth knowing.
So relaxing to listen to.
I haven't heard this song in so long lol. I feel so old
Bruce grew up in Williamsburg Virginia. Son of a wealthy real estate family. Sometimes people of means have the most empathy for those that don't have it.
Check out Huey Lewis and the News. Huey was good friends with Bruce, Bruce wrote him a song "Jacob's Ladder" for his "Fore" album and Huey produced a song for Bruce "The long race". Some songs of his "I want a new drug" "If this is it" "Heart and Soul" "Power of love" "Heart of Rock and Roll" "Stuck on you" "I know what I like" "Hip to be square" "Doing it all for my baby" edit: "Do you believe in love?" "Perfect world" "Small world" "Hard at play"
Yes to Huey!!!
loved your reaction!! haha , boy's fingers are possessed haha awesome reaction vid man. this is prob my favorite tune ever, just amazing, great message, great music, really amazing.
It's crazy when I see people discover this stuff. When 2 Pac sampled this I knew where I came from. You never forget the original, I'm glad you liked it.
Some folks simply have different upbringings, or else just weren’t old enough to know.
It’s so magical when people hear this stuff for the first time though and immediately vibe.
He making that dam piano TALK! "FOR REAL"!
Mandolin Rain is another big song from Bruce. Also, he wrote End of the Innocence for Don Henley, which is also great.
Go check out his Harbor Lights album if you really want to hear him lose his mind on the piano.
and he's 6 ft 5; and went to college for HOOPS; he's got it all going on, man.......
Bruce was and still is an avicide for justice and he supports all races and creeds. He is color blind so to speak and this song hit so hard that Tupac sampled it.
At Woodstock 99, Hornsby went to the crowd, now for some Tupac, before ripping it.
I was there. Half the kids were in total shock when he played it lol. Even back then not everyone knew...
@@FloridaManRacer It was sad really, but what are you going to do.
You should hear Bruce Hornsby accompany Bonnie Raitt on the song I can’t make you love me
I saw them do it live together in 2000. It was fukken amazing.
@@tjzambonischwartz it’s such a beautiful song that she wrote. You were lucky to see them perform it live
@@zenpuppy6025 Don't I know it! It was at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and she was a surprise unannounced guess sitting in with Bruce. I was already a fan of both, and tripping on half a tab of really good acid. It was EPIC.
When he said: nobody knows about Bruce 😅😅😅😅😅 grew up listening Bruce, my life soundtrack. Amazing band.
I only learned a few weeks ago that Bruce was the piano on Bonnie Rait's "I Can't Make You Love Me." I'd always loved that piano and had never connected it to Bruce Hornsby.
To hear him really KILL it on the piano, try "Spider Fingers". A deep track to be sure; but damn. From a fan.
He played with The Grateful Dead as well.
He has a bunch of great songs! Mandolin rain is another great one. Love your reaction you got a subscriber! ✌️
Good one here, loved this back in the 80s yep, he's the original
Bruce Hornsby is a proud graduate of The Frost School of Music at The University of Miami
Other suggestions from Bruce Hornsby 😁
"The Valley Road"
"Mandolin Rain"
"Lost Soul"
I'm Dancing With You!💞💪🐦🎅
One of the first artists I feel in love with because of this song! Been listening to him since this album came out. You gotta check out more of his music! ❤
He would play live with the Grateful Dead for many many years
You got a like/subscribe for the most honest reaction to Tupac/Hornsby I've seen. Both geniuses, from different mothers... that's all.
He's been writing and performing incredible music for decades
TheMagic FingerBus 🤣
He's eating that piano up!!!!!!
Hornsby is actually HUGE, but quiet about it. Also, love the react, new subscriber here!
'Every Little Kiss' is another great one by them.
He played most of not all of the instruments on the album Arc Diver.
The way he slaps the keys is very distinct.
I love love love your reaction! I understand exactly how you feel man, this song gets to me everytime I hear it, it will remain 'forever platinum gold'!!!! 😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Check out his song Valley Road. Another great one!
But you said we had three chances to find a good song by Bruce. So how about you add Spider Fingers (a deep cut) and Mandolin Rain (another hit).
I think he found the one he needed.
Ps, he wrote this song in his garage in 85 I believe. You need to watch more of him.
Hello my friend, I hope all is well with you and your family. You stumbled upon one of my favorite songwriters and singers. This man was asked to tour with the Greatful Dead which he did but refuses any and all accolades. Very humbled and unapologetically refuses to pander to southern culture and racism. Great pick.
I've had this LP since back then. It still makes me cry. 😎
Great reaction!
"You got three chances to impress me."
Bruce just chuckles.
Every little kiss. My fav. Song by Bruce
Yeah I got excited when I first heard Tupac using a Bruce Hornsby melody
Funny story... the older brother of I guy I dated off/on from jr high thru high school was a backup singer and studio musician for Bruce Hornsby. Didn't find out until yrs later but always loved his music.
Music for your soul ❤🎶
Love love love this
The album that this came from has the best tracks! All of them, which is unusual for me to love every track!! Can’t lose! :)
Bro I had so much fun watching this reaction! I just learned about this song too! Only heard pac and seeing others as hyped as me is great
💯
You want a great oldie, funny as heck song-Chuck Berry,
My Ding-a- line, you will die laughing 🤣😂
Wow bro. Finally you've reacted to thus song. One of my favorite songs from the 80s. Good job sir.
NOT his only hit 🇨🇦 Bruce has had many albums, full of hits !
And now I am going to lay some challenges on you !
Everybody wants to rule the world - by Tears for Fears
True - by Spandau Ballet
Soul Sacrifice (Woodstock)
- by Santana
White Rabbit (Woodstock) - by Jefferson Airplane
I'm not in love - by 10CC
Anything by Bruce Hornsby and the Range is worth listening to. I second the suggestion of Mandolin Rain! This group exemplifies the time period in all the best ways. What you grew up with? Much of it was 'sampling' the 70s and 80s (no harm, no foul, earlier generations did the same for earlier music too). I had to pause and look up Tupac's song *lol*!
That is the way Bruce works. Williamsburg VA.
I like the way you had so much fun doing this very important song, which is a reminder of Martin Luther King's civil right movement in the 60's
Bruce Hornsby
Long Valley Road
Bruce Hornsby had a number of hits. This is my favorite song of his followed by The Long Valley Road, Across The River, Every Little Kiss, Look Out Any Window, and Mandolin Rain.
Love your chair dances! You make me smile!😂
Pure brilliance
This is an incredible reaction thank you brother!!
Bruce Hornsby is an amazing musician and songwriter, with many songs with social or environmental themes. I had the great pleasure of seeing him live, just him and his piano. No set list. The audience wrote songs on pieces of paper, threw them up on the stage around his piano bench and he'd pick up a piece of paper and play that song. About 10 seconds into his first song, someone's phone when off. He jumped up walked to the front of the stage as if he was angry, then went back to his piano and riffed on the ring tone for five minutes. It was incredible!
When people hear songs sampled on a new song, why not look up to find the original? You'll find so much addtional great music that way.
People choose to not to hear his words !! But don't you believe them!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ he was not a one hit wonder beautiful Child he gave us hope. ❤❤
First time seeing you! You were cracking me up 😂Love Bruce Hornsby, love this song! Oh the 80's...🤩
He is an amazing talent and yes Tupac covered this song with Bruce's full support... This song is all about calling BS on people treating other people poorly no mater what the reason is..
Ah ah ah, I know this song but actually it's the first time i got to know the singer and see the MV. I had listen this couple times on radio (105.8 fm Most Radio Indonesia), but i didn't know who the singer is 🤭🙈🙈🙈🙈 actually i'm searching and collecting some 80s or 70s songs that i had heard on the radio but don't know who is the artist. It's so hard 🙈🙈🤭🤭🤭
Your genuine reaction to this classic is priceless!!! Thank you for sharing your experience
Bro - you did "That's just the way it is but not "Mandolin Rain?" You gotto do it!
Bruce Hornsby is an amazing musician, and also an amazing performer, and my favorite person ever in Rock and Roll music. Have had the opportunity to see him many times in concert, both with The Range and also his brief but excellent stint with another GREAT band, the Grateful Dead. He is always on the deal at every show. He has other stellar songs like "The Valley Road" and "Mandolin Rain", and more. But those are his best known songs. Along with the TuPac sample.
Bruce Hornsby wrote and recorded this long before anyone else covered it. This is the original.
He also has another great song mandolin rain
Long Valley Road..the piano is even better in my eyes..
I wore this cassette out learning to play this when it came out. I haven't sat at a piano in 20 years, but if I ever do again, I'd give this one a shot again. It's a really fun play. Probably one of the best song writers of this era. He's still killing it today.
Bruce was a prolific song writer as well as a phenomenal artist. He wrote Huey Lewis's song Jacobs Ladder.
Incredible reaction 🎉
Watching your slow realization is so funny.
I can watch your reactions all day you are so freaking amazing.. Thank You for always making me Laugh and Smile...
Bruce Hornsby also was the piano behind Don Henley on Don's "The End of the Innocence" hit.
I swear I have heard this song countless times since the 80s and absolutely never tire of it! Timeless classic, message still pierces my heart every time 😢
Recommend "The Valley Road". For me, the song of his that hits the hardest.
He also has a great duet with Stevie Nicks from her The Other Side album called "Two Kinds of Love." Excellent.
Mandolin Rain was one of my favorite songs going back to high school
I just subscribed when you went nuts with the ‘magic fingers’ lol😅
😅
Bruce has many hits, great music.
