Looks good my New Mexico buddy, I too also learned the hard way on oil canning when bead rolling. A little practice and you can find ways around it. My first attempt was a lot like yours because it was too deep of a bead. Keep on keeping on my friend!
Overall that box looks and functions very well. I too would like to see more on riveting. I live very close to Holloman AFB in NM. I love to spend time watching the F16's on their training sorties.
This was riveting! haha From running a bead roller for a few years, my opinion is that you over stretched that panel, i never did much pre stretching whenever i did it, and if i did it was just a few passes through the english wheel, focusing on approx a 2inch area an inch either side of the bead centre line, well thats what i did anyway. i think you concerntrated the stretch into just that line and that caused it to warp the way it has, if you run a continuous bead around the perimeter of that panel an inch and half in from the edge or so, it would probably help it. best and only way to learn is to do it repeatedly.
to fix, or at least help with the oil canning, I would get some like 1/3x1/2 or 1/2x1/2 right angle and build a box with an xbrace out of it and put it on the under side of the lid.
Long time no see! Apparently my feed has not notified me of your recent posts. This one popped up and I see now you have posted some other stuff recently. Looks like I have some catching up. I loath sheet metal work. Nice looking box, fits the space nicely.
Yeah we got busy and slacked off at the end of last year! We were building and working, just getting through the video editing now! Thanks for watching still, and there is more video next week!
I would definitely appreciate a video (or series) on aircraft riveting. Tools and techniques.
LOOKS GOOD, WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE ON RIVETING..

A riveting episode would be appreciated.
Man that looks awesome! I wanna learn to do some riveting that stuff always looks so bad ass
Dam got all the cool tools! Love it
It's rad
I would enjoy seeing a riveting how to.
Next time you have to more stretch bead rolled panels. Use a planishing hammer to flatten/stretch along the bead roller path.

Then put a seal in the channel.
The looks great. What made you decide to rivet it vs welding? I’d love a video dedicated to it that would be super interesting
Mainly because I don't have a tig welder or spool gun to use, but also because I like the look of solid rivets

what was that jig for drilling even spaced holes? thanks
That's a rivet "fan" it has several different markings that you can spread it to so all the holes are at a set spacing
Maybe, try bracing the bottom of the lid so it won’t flex.
Are u a A&p
Yes
