- This video is about the newest features associated with Comfort Access on a BMW. The demo vehicle is a 2019 BMW X5 40i.
NOTE: There is a new feature that I did forget to mention in the video. If the vehicle is not unlocked for 48 hours it will go into a "sleep" mode which will disable the comfort access feature. To "wake" the vehicle you must use the FOB button to unlock it, then comfort access can be used again as normal.
Brand new 2019 BMW X5! Let me know if you have questions about this vehicle and I'll assist you as best I can. I'm still learning the nuances with this vehicle as it is a completely new approach to the iDrive but I will share new info and solutions to difficult to understand topics as soon as I'm able.
Without comfort access option, is the only way to unlock it through the physical key fob button?
Question: if I approach the car, does it unlock all the doors at the same time? or only the driver's side?
Does it work with key card too ? That means can I leave key fob at home ?
I have 2016 model with CA but it’s not included that feature. Is there any way to upgraded or retrofitted? Thank you
Not from BMW. They usually don’t offer retrofits for features that aren’t currently on a vehicle.
Thanks. Can comfort access unlocks the passenger side door as well when the driver put hand on driver’s door, for my 2015 X 5
It can open either just the driver door or all four doors. On the iDrive go to main menu>settings>doors/key. Change the unlock setting from "driver's door" to "all doors" and you should be setup.

Currently there are no retrofits available for these new features

Can you please connect carplay and drop Google maps on display?
If your iPhone is running iOS 12 or newer it will be capable of running two new mapping apps via CarPlay, Google Maps or Waze. Here is a video I put together for a general overview of CarPlay.

thx, i have seen that before, but as you know in previous version carplay could not be displayed on full screen - i would like to see how does it behave now with idrive 7, can we get google maps on full screen?

I'm going to put a video together for this. It is completely full screen on the new ID7. You can get Google maps full screen with CarPlay. There is something that is worth pointing out regarding Google maps & Waze, to input addresses with voice you must press the software mic button on the screen since the steering wheel button is only configured for ID7 or long press for Siri.

2012 won't be able to have these features. It may have an early version though. This video I made shows how to operate these early versions:
