- You know we love our rusty barn finds on this channel! Today, were pulling out a classic Ford Sierra from a garage near my old childhood home, that has been sat there for 30 years untouched! I got the opportunity to collaborate to buy this car with NY500 & Ryders Retros to helpfully turn it into a Ford Sierra Touring Car Replica!

Thank you for your support, it means more than you think.
Definitely keep it as original as possible, moneys in originality with these now there's so few left. I think a cossie rep will ruin it and devalue it. Excellent project though 👌
100% with you. It would be a shame
Yep totally agree.
I totally agree keep it original
100% agree with your opinion
Yep agree, there’s enough Cosworth replicas out there.
I had a XR4i when I was 22 in 1985 for two years. I'm 61 now.
A problem I had twice and so so did the guy who bought it off of me was what I think is a relay or the like behind the glove compartment, mauve in colour if I remember rightly. It was connected to the fuel injection. When it's dead you can't here the injection system buzzing if you lie under the car.
Less remain than 3 door Cosworths, save the 6 window shell and make an Andy Rouse Xr4Ti tribute.
We have found an XR4i touring car. “Industrial control systems” sponsored car. So thinking about keeping it original
As above, 4i is a unique shell. Please don’t make it a Cosworth replica
@@stephenrogers2648 completely agree with you there, it wants brought back to its former glory
So true
For price of body panels buy a merkur and ship it over to uk
Keep it as an XR4i. They are rare enough now.
Awwww lovely. I had a 1983 XR3i in this colour....Caspian Blue.
Looking forward to watching the progress.
4:25 It don’t look that bad….
Alright mate, I’ll take your word for it 😂😂
Genuinely we are nearly down to bear metal and for being in a wet garage for that time it’s alright 🤣
I love the split rear windows on the 3 door, that makes that car for me, fair play mate
Great to see a British take on this ... soooo much American stuff on the tube 😂 Cheers lads 👍
Its going to be a great project ,cant wait ,from Nz:)
Awesome! I bought a 4i late last year in the same colour! Wanted one since I first saw one
These 3 door xr4i's ARE NOW RARER than the 3 Door Cosworth and good examples have been SOLD on for £25k with good examples selling for £10k to £15k plus regularly.
If you can SAVE IT.... although the thought of a Cosworth rep is appealing even to me, I feel tbh it could do with saving, ESPECIALLY WITH SUCH LOW NUMBERS IF THESE REMAINING.
I'll be watching on regardless of what you do 👍👍👌SAVE IT LOL
We haven’t fully decided. As interesting we have found they did an XR4i touring car. So may do that.
The decider is going to be how bad the rear 1/4’s are. As if they need replacing you can easy lose the post. We will see where this takes us.
@@TwinEngineCorsaYes 👍 the touring car approach is a great idea. There's a guy who worked with Andy rouse and he, a few years back did the same but he did it as per FIA homologation records. I think it's up for sale, or was for £99k there was a big feature in a Mag of it also. 👍👌
I just picked up a red one last September here in the states. Was parked in the dead ladies garage for 26 years. Has 9,000 original miles. Works and drives well. I even put it in a car show it is in such nice shape. I offered the womans son $1900 usd and its been mine ever since. I figure its gotta be worth more than that.
@@DumbCarGuy Yours would be a 3 door xr4ti Merkur, same shell.
Xr4i was built between late 1983 until 1985 and had a 2.8 engine.
The xr4ti Merkur was built 1987 onwards with a 2.3 turbo engine.
It had alot of extra strengthening parts added to the frame due to the USA rules.
I've seen good examples in USA sell for 10k usd 👍 so it looks like a great buy .. 👏👏
@@the3doorking293 I thought u had a typo XR4I didn't know about that gem. But my 1973 mercury Capri had a 2.8 v6. Was always a blast until the plastic cam sprocket gave way every other year.
Amazing what is still lying in garages in 2022 👏😁
Am sure you will get it sorted out mt! Good video again from yous guys once more
Appreciate that pal!
Nice save, the “DS” on the chassis number means it’s a July 1983 build date. My dad’s Sierra he brought brand new in 1983 was made in the same month as yours. Looking forward to seeing the progress on this one.
Interesting to know! We can't wait either
My 4i is a DT chassis no, aug 83 build and Aug 84 reg
Sierra XR4i/Cozzie and Lotus Carlton, three of the most desirable cars ever made!
amazing when you think you could pick up a really good Xr4i for about £3.5k in 2013
Great save! Really needs to stay original
Boss 👏🏼👏🏼
One of my coworkers in Scotland had left his '86 911 Carrera in a very similar concrete block garage since the 1990s... humid, damp, mouse infested... We drug it out and that sparked his interest again, I think also showing him the potentially £50k+ price if he was able to clean it up nice and get it running again helped.
You have got your work cut out there....... but credit to you, can't wait to see it progress....
The XR4i was the first of my dad's cars I drove. When I was 17. White, thick steering wheel, heavy doors. Best pickup between 50 and 70 mph. I'm gutted you want to turn it into an RS5000.
I think original is the way to go I bought a new one in 1983 so will be watching very closely at what you do
Fantastic collaboration 👏 look forward to seeing the progress.
Should be a good project for us all to sink our teeth in to
@@TwinEngineCorsa can i ask what happened with this car? Looked through your most recent vids and no sign of this car
@@insertnamehere5146im keen to see it too
@@TwinEngineCorsa any updates? see nothing on your channel about this car. was it too rotten?
A year later, should be another vid of it.
U deserve way more followers. It's a proper channel 👏 Good presenting aswell better than BBC
Thank you mate, we try our best!
Love these videos
Great car
I bought a 85' Sierra 2.0is coupe in same conditions two month ago.
I m french and i dont understand everything but suscribe in your Channel for see that 😉
Laughing at the guys having chew with the garage door when you're loading the car onto the trailer 😄
Looking forward to this one found this channel for the astra mk3 gsi but I do love a Sierra
As are we pal, some updates on our socials, most of the paintwork is now gone!
That feu orange air freshener is worth a few Bob! . Not seen one of them for years! Sure with your welding skills this will be solid in no time.
Need a catch up with you soon pal.
R5 Mike.
Looks like it's had the boy racer touch
What's with the red lowers on the bumpers?
When I bought my Sierra way back in the day, it came with a full set of pepper pots and good tyres!
I actually sold them oitside a car auction and got more for them than what I paid for the car, think I paid £150 for the car including set of pepper pots that I didn't notice in the boot!
Is it not in gear or handbrake stuck on? Odd the rears are seized but not the fronts?
I like the clover leaf xr3 iwheels on the rear!
I'd say keep it original.
Edit- when I saw the garage door drop on it, I was like NOOOOO!!!! THE PAINTWORK....then I saw the state of the paint work.....and didn't feel so bad....⚠️😳
you maybe improved it by knocking some rust off lol ?
I'll be honest I was never really into the Sierra cars.
I don't know why.
I was into the Escort Mk1 and Mk2 and Orions.
But I can't wait to see the progress and end product of this one. 🙌 👍
Same
I've got a very good bonnet and body kit and a wiring loom pos more parts if you need any
I'd rather see it restored to original condition, 2 door xrs are rare enough
Please, please do not make it into a fake cossie. That would be terrible. Restore it to its standard glory with the exception of a full Ashley exhaust system. Oh the noise 😍
Looks like my mates dad's old car did it spend any time in Scotland
The rear quarters need changing anyway to put the big 3 door windows in. You can’t just cut the pillar out
ANY UPDATES ON THIS AT ALL.. OR MAYBE SHORTLY...?
It's a shame to convert it into something it isn't. Restore it as it was. It's not like there are that many XR4is left.
Now I feel old 30 years ago I was 26 😅
Sledge hammer free back caliphers lol
Wow, I had two of those, thay rusted bad under the bodykit.
Now ur really going to paint the bonnet n sure the dents out after the garage door made its impression on it lol
Wheel dollies next on the shopping list?
Here from tiktok
Thank you for the support 😊
True Vauxhall man saying “rare Vauxhall parts”
Vauxhall on the brain 🤦🏻
@@TwinEngineCorsa just as I thought will be interesting great channel btw
Keep it original. Will be worth more and look cool.
The one car I wish to this very day I bought in the US. Here in the States was called the Merkur XR4ti. I almost bought one from a Junk yard for 800.00 and I HAD the money. To this VERY day, I still kick myself in the ass for NOT buying that car. It was one of those cars that was on my Dream to Own list and I HAD IT in my grasp. I walked away from it like a Moron.
If you ever in the UK an want a drive once restored, contact me. We will make them dreams come true 😊👍
Phew bit rough but classic be good resto that.
It can't be a Touring car replica as the XR4i bodyshell is different to the 3-door RS Cosworth shell.
As I fabricator we can sort that with ease. Although we have found an XR4i touring car 🤔
@@TwinEngineCorsa
Why not restore it as an XR4i ?
The XR4Ti was a touring car and won the 1985 BTCC at the hands of Andy Rouse.
Xr31 wheel on there ain’t there what a great great motor Qual
Would be such a shame to turn it into a replica cosworth.these are great cars in there own rite.getting valuable to.the 3 window body shell is actually better looking than the 2 window cosworth shell to.caspian blue to,one of my favourite colours on these cars.to many cosworth replicas about today.i love all sierras, will enjoy watching you do this.👍
Is there a follow up to this video please?
This Sierra will need alot of work to get looking the way it was from new I say
Why on earth would you use an xr4i shell as a base for a cosworth conversion?I respect your choice..but it just seems such a waste of time. This car should be restored as an xr4i :) Eitherway...well done getting the car out :) Greetings from Norway,Stefan
The issue we have is getting the XR4i parts to restore it, rear 1/4’s with the added post, the etched class as some needs replacing. Where the Cosworth stuff is available easily.
This is from quick research.
We haven’t decided the correct route as yet.
@@TwinEngineCorsa oh oh ..i can see that beeing an issue indeed.....still...with all do respect..i think you will be better of sticking with restoring it as a xr4i...are the rear quarters unsavable?Looks to be one huge project also to be honest...and i reckon it is faaaar worse on the underside.I bet chassis legs in the rear is pretty bad...if they are not i am surprised :) Love the Xr4is though.I recently got back into Cosworths..and restored a 3 door cosworth,,which is featured on my channel...And i love them to bits..but i have to say there is something about the " lessser" engined Sierras and Ford in general..that are far more " special"..Like you do not see them at all these days....But cosworths are" common"...if you know what i mean :)
Rear 1/4’s are not salvageable. The shell is relatively good it’s panels which need changing.
We haven’t fully decided on final finish yet. We are going to strip it and inspect what everything is like then go from there.
Keep it original.....there's not many left, and there only original once....cossie replica and it will only ever be a replica.....and there's still 3x the amount of cosworths as xr4i's....The 2.8 v6 is a robust engine and we started our 2.8 xr4x4 after 17 years of standing with changing fuel pump and a o ring on fuel pressure regulator....easy to work on, you can still get parts for the 2.8, oil filters and spark plugs from Ford, or burton power.....we found a Peugeot 306 air filter fitted in the standard airbox..
Rare Vauxhall parts 😉 there Ford parts mate haha
10/10 for enthusiasm, 10/10 for effort but that is one minging car.
🤣🤣
I'm going to have to say it. It is ashame that your not restoring it back to its original condition. You didn't really see many XR4i's back in the day, let alone now.
Nice buy and how many rare Ford parts. Make ur money back by just selling the parts you don't need.
Sometimes it seems a complete mystery why some cars are hidden away like this and taking up all that garage space that surely could have been useful to someone?
It makes for good content. This would be a boring world,
What's going on with this car
Sooner you restore it back to original....
Doors will not fit. They're 4 door doors
Referring to ford parts as vauxhal parts is sacrilege
Have vauxhalls on the brain 🤦🏻🤣
I was looking for an xr4i few week ago when I sold my fiesta and ended up with a vauxhall 🤣
Everyone puts st170 In the retro build why not put a st220 in it with a big turbo and map on it
If it were me I'd restore it as an xr4i. It's the wrong shape for a Cossie anyway.
Thats rough
A garage and barn 2 different things one a barn is made of wood lol
The garage was half wood half brick and half falling down 🤣
i dont think the vauxhall cosa spoiler will fit on the sierra. #just saying
Now let's look underneath and see that it's got no floorpan or chassis rails whatsoever.
и сколько такое стоит?
Must be worth least £250
Cosworth replica won't look anything since its a different car completely. Restore it as an xr4i.
It would be a travesty to try and change it to a cossie. It'll always say xr4i on the birth certificate. To wake it from its grave after 30 years to then kill it again would be pointless and a real shame in my opinion. The xr 4i is and was just as popular as the cossie. Most importantly, its a 4i shell and it'll still look like a 4i with a whale tail 😂
Do not Cossie it!!!!!
Should not have not sown log book with addresses on it
Don’t make a cossie/touring car rep!! These xr4i are now rarer than the cossies are so just restore to original or tastefully modified, suspension upgrades, wheels etc!
Sorry but one word. Scrap. Give us an update in 3 years. Cool car though. Damp/moisture has trashed the interior. The body will be a relentless battle with rust.
Check our other socials, pictures of the interior being taken out!
Yawn another Cosworth rep. How about just restoring it for what it is.
