I was working for Ford of Europe in 1990 and Ford had a special offer on these - free insurance for the first year ! Can you imagine we were all 21 years old and this was like the gift of gifts ! We also had the employee discount on top of that. All my mates bought them new. I had a 2.8i Capri and the time, so the XR2i were known as 'toy cars'... the Capri being a proper man's car ha ha ha :) Anyway, they were great.
Same here davyboy my mum used to work at Ford in Basildon and I had the employee discount and a years free insurance, small world, kind regards to you and take care Mark from Billericay 😃👍
Ah but remember the insurance is nothing like the young ones pay just now , I had ren 5 gt turbo for £300 per year . Never liked the fiesta xr2i but loved escort r/s turbo
Perhaps offer the spares you want to scrap to the owners club. As you know with older cars it’s the silly things you can’t find and a bit of goodwill with the club would go a long way when you are looking for unobtanium
Rob & Chris, those classic words by most people: “I was going to do a nut & bolt restoration”……they just don’t understand how much work goes into doing exactly that!!! Another classic chaps!!!!
I had an H registered one of these in white and suffer from OCD. Used to clean under the spare wheel area with a toothbrush. No food, drinks allowed in car and it was kept in garage if it rained. We had to take the bus.Sold it for more than I paid for it. Used to give the teenagers in their souped up Vauxhall Nova's a run for their money.
Omg I had the gun metal grey one back in the day XR2i Think I paid no more than £500 for it had it when I was about 18 -19 year old I wish I never sold it now bring back so many memories first time I done over 110 mph in Mexico, of course lol few cruises to the seaside ect love it
I used to buy motorcraft parts for my Fiestas and Escorts takes me back. Cars were so much simpler to work on back then. Good you got it running and nice project for someone.
What a treat for a Sunday! Thanks guys. Being around 20 at the time I knew two people my age who had the 1.4S as it was easier on the Insurance, which despite inflation was still a lot back then!
In 1990 I wanted to upgrade from my 1987 XR2 in red to the newer 1990 XR2i model but my finances would not stretch by a few hundred pounds. I settled for a Vauxhall Nova 1.4SR instead. That was a bit of a mistake and to add insult to injury Ford discounted the XR2i price by about £500 two weeks after I bought the Nova. I really like Ford hot hatches of this era.
11.48 Laguna front splitters was fitted to everything back on the day. Got one in the garage too. God knows what I’m going to fit it to ?🤷🏻 great video guys 👍
You boys need to be on tv even though no one watches tv😂 best channel going, were you ever into 205 gti,s a think an extra to the channel would be the built up cars, especially the 2 fiestas drivin round the country roads so we could hear the old school motors sounds again 👍
Rob your taking me back in time with all those parts. I remember everything, 1.6 cvh . I can still hear the techno and the 6x9 on the parcel shel and the amp 👍
i must be getting old ...i found the shed in the garden way more interesting than the car!!!!! not for me im more the 1600e or lotus cortina mk1 escort as there my age group !! did like that shed though........😂😂😂
A bit like buses, you wait for one and. . . . . It does prove that there are still some around that are not rot boxes. I think the young people whose era this was will be very happy to own this one and at a good price. I hope whoever buys it will get it resprayed straight away and take it to some shows because it deserves to be shown as a survivor. I think you have done the right thing with this car Rob you don't have the time as a company to do a full restoration so selling it on as a run and drive is wise. Take care Rob and Chris and thanks for the video. 👍👍
Lovely little car. I bought my first classic late last year: 1993 Corvette 40th Anniversary Edition in Ruby Red interior and exterior that had 19,300 original, documented miles! I’m the third owner, and it’s so much fun to drive!
Fantastic find chaps hope you are well, I had one of these I purchased new in August 1990 on a H plate it was so much fun to drive, if I remember rightly the seat fabric was called Zolda which was a hard wearing crushed velour, enough of my waffle for now kind regards Mark from Billericay 😃😃👍👍
Chris the red fiesta why don't you out some road tax in the car and take it to a vintage car show then that would help you guys to recruit more staff to work with you
When I was at college we had a pre-launch XR2i donated by Ford with a prototype Zetec engine fitted which the later 1.8 versions came with. Still love the sound of a CVH though 😊
I can perfectly understand that smile on your face, Rob. I feel the same when people are comming around in those old beauties. I love old and fast Fords, but absolutely not old VW's. Fiesta's and Escorts are real cars. I had an Escort with a 130 hp engine. It showed it's rearwheels to a BMW. He couldn't believe that a Ford 1,6 could do that. I don't know who did the tune-up on it, but it was pure fun to drive. Have fun with that Fiesta, and make some good money too. That's what it's all ut.about. And I'm sure, that you guys will make that car nothing less than perfect. Rare and perfect.
Good morning Rob and Chris, great find , I remember them when I was younger. Someone is going to get a nice project. Thank you for taking the time to upload another video. Ged.
Back in the day they were very "nickable". A couple of the staff at the company I ran both had two nicked. Some years before that I had an Orion Ghia Injection - basically an XR3i with a boot, a real sleeper of a car - 4 door with XR3i performance. One of the best cars I've ever had.
It’ll be interesting to see Rob rebuilding this one and seeing him reliving his youth, nice one Rob, ps if you’d brought in an 80 year old lorry you might have seen Chris getting excited 😊
Nice one lads. Can't believe how much these are worth these days, like the old Nova SR that you could buy for £500 20+ years ago.. Should've kept loads of cars I've sold 😂
Remember that fantastic Ford Fiesta XR2i commercial, 105Horse, 1 Cat, No Bull.. why doesn't ford still do ads like that, pure brilliance, that was for the 16v version 1991 onwards 😊
It looks tidy but wats it like behind the body kit as they rot badly behind thats why alot of got scrapped and like any ford because of the demand has made them go for silly money i was going to get a project as a daily car as welding and fabrication not a problem but im not going to bother and look at different like a vauxhall i bet you are smiling when you have made a nice profit when the car and parts are sold and don't blame you 😅
Good call - best bought by someone who can do a good respray "in his own time". Might have been different of you had your own full spray capability but the time needed for a respray would still be a major cost to any professional operation.
Another lovely fast ford from the past 👌 you will have to get some more furry dice for it rob this will be a little belter when it's done 😊take care and stay lucky and healthy looking forward to Wednesday's video 📹 already 😊❤
Hello Rob and Chris,it's hard to find a car that solid nowadays, and original.that moment it starts Rob is very happy lol.with a respray it will be a nice motor.
For me it has to be the Ford Fiesta Mark 1 XR2 I'd wished I owned one ford got it spot on but enjoyed your video on the Mark 3 Fiesta XR2 Chris and Rob keep the videos coming there getting better 👍👍
Enjoyed this one, good to see it driveable again. I was a bit horrified to hear that you will just scrap those spare starters / alternators (assuming they’re old OEM units). The new / pattern units you refer to available from Motor Factors are so often poorly made copies. Hate to see any good old cores / spares scrapped for nothing, but understand that your time (and Chris’s) is limited.
Great as it is to see these old "classics" it doesn't half make me feel old, I was a yts trainee at a ford dealership when these first came out at least it's with someone who's going to mint it, greet video as always
Great little car. I love those wheels. 34 years old and looks the ducks guys! Here in Australia we didn't get any of these Fords you are picking up. Our 1990 Fiesta was a rebadged Mazda 121 that was as bland as a can of beige paint. Infact in the mid 80s through the 90s all our Fords were Mazda's. You didn't mention engine capacity; 1.3? Discs all round on the XR2? Anyway, loved the video. I hope this car goes to a good home for a great future.

I love the old fiestas, my first car was an L reg petrol blue coloured one my dad got cheap at the auctions and it was a brilliant car for years, my sister had it after me and eventually it needed too much welding to pass an mot sadly.

I’d give the new owner the option of having the spares instead of binning them…seems a waste
Yep considering he used his own time and money to find them

I would rather use a genuine second hand part, the new reproduction stuff just isn't as good
You can tell Chris hates old fords he just goes along for Rob's sake 🙄 🤣

Really can't see the attraction myself. But nice to pass it on to someone who will love it.
Yet again your lack of greed is a joy to behold! A heck of a find, a heck of a car and a heck of a video…..excellent.
Your playing a dangerous game with that battery pack and fuel 😳😳
It's worth keeping the old parts to have reconditioned, retaining the original look.
13:08 is there no risk of a spark when you're connecting to the jump pack, next to that big open jug of petrol??
You can throw a lit cigarette on petrol…it does nothing
Sell it for 4k and give chris a bonus, worth that all day given how solid it is
