These were everywhere in the UK when i was growing up in the 80s and 90s. My family had several, both pre- and post-facelift (i always liked the original early 80s front with the square lights more.) Very comfortable cars in their day, with their velour interiors and soft American suspension! Seeing this makes me feel so old, even the 'bong, bong, bong' sound of the door chime takes me back! Pity this one is much too far gone rust-wise, but that's old Fords for you, and why there's hardly any Sierras left now except a few RS and Sapphire Cosworths that sell for crazy money.
My stepfather had a 2.0 also. I was lucky not to get killed in it. Their crash safety was abysmal and I had a total brake failure at 110km/h emergency brake situation...
My father had pre facelift Sierra 2.3L diesel. It was a great car, except in winters, when -25 and all the fuel turned into a wax.... car had no fuel heaters what so ever. There was a time when entire city was filled with those Sierras. Now they are living their last days as a winter drifters.
When I was a kid, this car was my first love. I wished I would get one for myself when I grew old. Little did I know that the production of this model ended two years prior to my birth year. How naive I was! As I grew old, I realized my childhood dream will remain just a dream.
These old sierras were so fun to drive, especially on snow :-) That 2.0 DOHC engine requires just Motorcraft sparkplugs, otherwise it will misfire. I also remember some other features back from old days when we were driving these as a kids and always were fixing something.
My dad had got one of the first Sierras delivered worldwide in October 1982, a 1,6 L plain jane... I had myself a 1988 XR 4x4 with the faboulous 2,8 6 cylinder which was a quick car by the time I owned it; of course not by today's standards... I liked those Sierras although they were somewhat hideous but good cars all in all... Yours seems indeed to be one of the last of the line and thinking about it, it shocks me a bit that it's now more than 30 years ago that the model range ended ... time flies.
Merkur sold in US/Canada back in the day was indeed a rebadged Sierra. Never understood why Ford didn't sell it as just Ford Sierra over there. I guess they wanted to sell it there as it was a good familycar, but they had to ''americanize'' it somehow and not to make it as a part of the main brand. The name alone was confusing, since they already had Mercury in their lineup, so I bet that many got confused about that.
My father had a 1990 4 door Scorpio from new until 2002, with this same 2.0 DOCH and automatic transmission. I have very fond memories from it, I think it was a really nice looking car especially in the metallic dark blue we had it in. It wasn't the most reliable thing in the world: the driver's seat heater was replaced twice during the warranty perioid (1 year), and it broke the third time almost immeaditely after warranty, after that it was never fixed again. The transmission required an overhaul at somewhere around 150k km. And by the time dad gave it as part exchange for a Volvo S80, and it was 12-years old and had around 250k km on it, it already had some rust on it's rear wheel arches, and as far as I can remember, the fuel gauge had stopped working years ago. On the other hand, that was the reality of cars from that age: they just weren't built quite as good and the base-technique didn't last as long (transmission, engine) as cars now-a-days, although obviously in some ways modern cars are also less reliable at the same time due to increased complexity. Otherwise it was quite a nice car, very comfortable and quiet (for the time), and on long journeys the fuel consumption was really good (6.5l/100km even - 4th gear was really long and it had converter lock-up).
Before anyone else gets to it, maybe it has to be said that although a similarly aged Mondeo (2012) with similar mileage (250k km) is overall in better condition with most likely no rust on the body and electronics still working as new, by then Ford (Europe) hadn't still quite managed to figure out the transmission part: I believe with 250k km most of those PowerShi(f)ts has been overhault at least once already...
.Another great revival. A very late sierra I'd say 92 just on the switch over to the mundane sorry mondeo. Can I ask what happens to all these classics do you sell them or part them out of just keep them.
God I miss my sierra, they’re just so overpriced in UK now 😢 had mine back in 2009 with same engine as that, certainly didn’t have a limited slip diff though!
Not a Zetec mate.. It's just an 8 valve too, fitted into some Granadas and the odd petrol Transit!! From what I remember I think the bottom end is what the fwd RS2000 motor is based on.. Although obviously the RS is 16v 👍
The last decent contribution from Ford UK save the MK3 Ford Escort which went on to live under the skin of American Fox body cars. The 2.0i Sierra was a potent motor to drive whether Pinto or DOHC which was still a Pinto but with a different head, the Pinto lives on today and can be bought crated from Ford in the US albeit the 2.3/2.5 Lima variant but still the same old bucket tapping beastie.

Good old Ford never disappoint. Love it. 👍
XR4i was incredible. I love it.
Only rust was the issue same with Scorpios.

Beautiful car with a great twin-cam! I hope this one gets restored and made roadworthy again. Great drifting too!
Looks like a real nice rally project

Congratulations on making the garage repair videos. The shots look better. Greetings.

For the UK viewers this was reminiscent of the RAC rally. He was having way to much fun! 🙂
Excellent video once again, I hope we can see your full saved car collection soon in the summer.
Looks similar to a Murkur, only seen a handful here in Canada. A fellow I knew had a Xr4ti, was a fun little car. Great video once again folks!

the drifting was a very nice touch to engage even more entertainment hahaha loved it ❤
😄🏁🏁🏁🏁 Winter rally!! You're a good driver, i would have slipped into the ditch. Good job getting this Ford running again!
I love how it refuses to die use to love doing some rear steering in the 940 wentworth turbo

Legend, you are the man
Used to work on these back in 90's for a Ford main dealer in the UK. Great cars, don't remember many non XRs with LSDs though, nice find that
Good Cars, the last of them were the best ones I think.
In the uk these cars are not cheap to buy now, they are Classic Fords.
Good video.👍
Very good content my friend when I see something about Ford Sierra my brain goes like and then

Sierra 2,0 DOHC big respect 👍👍👍👍
Nice video.. Those sierras were great..
Awesome!!!!
Flexiny got a workshop now? Now you can store all the tools and what not in there.
They usually make diesel heaters that will keep the garage or workshop warm. Well, I'm not sure if they are available in Estonia.
The best Ford Sierra ❤

RWD + limited slip diff + snow is fun
