Outstanding and fantastic! I love, how you two got synced. Your pianoplay sounds flawless, but Sonya is just incredible! A girl to fall in love with! 🥰
That was not staged, you can tell because when the "l amour est enfant de boheme" part begins she doesn't sing, because she doesn't know what he's going to do. It is as beautiful as her voice, and also very daring, because it is very difficult to control your nerves in those situations.
@@esplin1 Some have accused him of staging, all of these. I just meant I was so impressed that it didn't matter to me. I agree with you, it wasn't and She has a marvelous range and power in her voice

@@luxxn Life is still extremely unfair, however you look at it. I have played the piano for 10 years, min. 1 hour every day, sometimes 2, 3, 4 hours, but every single day, still, if you do not get an exceptional talent by random chance - you can practice till your fingers bleed it makes absolutely no difference. And then we don't even have to go into being born in Paris or some godforsaken war-torn country in the third world, etc., etc...

The part I love about this is the reaction of the children. There's a misconception in some circles that opera is an elitist thing and rather 'inaccessible' When I was 9, 1 was a street urchin in a university production of Carmen. I'd never heard opera, didn't understand French and, of course, had no preconceived ideas. I was completely captured and mesmerised while watching Jose stab Carmen with a butter knife in rehearsal, so much so that it put me on a life path. I sang with the ENO children's cast until I was 18 and went to the Guildhall to train to be an opera singer. It always strikes me that if a 9 year old could understand what was being communicated, that it's more a case of mental conditioning that causes people to believe opera isn't easily accessible.
@@spellywelly You're not allowed to sing with a mic. You're not allowed to change how you're supposed to sing a particular piece. You're not allowed to use drums or an electric guitar or amplifiers in general. The music is not allowed to adapt, and consequently has a tiny audience. Then they turn around and charge exorbitant prices for tickets because all the production staff, venue costs, middlemen, even ticket retailers, they all need to eat. The scene ends up being unreasonably expensive, and only gets by because of its reputation for being exclusive and classy, and then they turn around and complain about people 'not getting it.' Meanwhile, video games are hiring opera singers and putting reverb on their vocals, and accompany them with double kicks and distorted guitars, and it's awesome. Someday, they'll realise that keeping their industry locked in the past is going to kill it. Someday, but not today.
@@Danceofmasks Thanks for sharing. Interesting. Incidentally, I’ve never heard someone in the industry complain about people ‘not getting it’. When I’ve heard this it’s usually from someone who’s never set foot in an opera house. You seem to be treating opera as a musical genre in your comment, rather than considering that it’s a complete art form. While directors can and do stamp their own interpretations on a work, to change a piece, or add guitars/drums etc would be akin to adding modern mediums to the Mona Lisa. We don’t mess with art; culture/history is important and will always have its place. Opera is, first and foremost, theatre; though what you describe.. opera voices used in games.. isn’t unusual. Opera singers diversify a lot - we don’t only perform in house. Recitals, games, modern music, jazz clubs, tv, crossover - these are all normal parts of an opera singer’s career. I agree with you in that sense - to me, the operatic voice is one of the most beautiful instruments and it’s extremely versatile. I don’t think opera is inaccessible financially. The ENO has seats for a tenner. 21-35 year olds can have the best seats in the house for £25 under the current scheme. And if you don’t mind standing, you can do so for £4. The Royal Opera streams performances in a cinema for people who don’t care about the whole experience, and those tickets are £12. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with operatic voices modernised and used in crossover music. Actually, I rather love it. But I don’t understand the idea of changing or altering culture.

For those who doubt whether it was staged: after watching the video carefully, I noticed 4 cameras that filmed it: 2 on the piano, 2 at the cameramen. At 00:00, you can see how a guy comes out from behind, starting to shoot at the same time as the girl approaches. He will shoot the entire duration of the video and is most likely one of the operators. Probably, the woman in white standing next to him is the second cameraman who will film the reactions of passers-by, but I'm not sure about her. The last operator is clearly visible at 1:00 on the right. A total of 4-5 cameras and 2-3 operators. My opinion? A perfectly staged and well-written video! I really liked it!
Exactly, it was all a set-up. The same pianist played Carmen for the same singer in a restaurant three months ago, a video of which can be seen on RUclips. And yet in the above video the pianist claims to have just met the singer. Complete phoniness. Yes, it was a fine performance, but why must they lie?
If this was not staged (and that's a big 'IF'), and you are not involved with anyone... I really hope you two connected to explore all options. It's obvious you both have a passion for music and would benefit from knowing each other.

What's wrong is the gatekeeping in the opera industry.
I think it must have been more accessible before the invention of microphones. A lot of modern music wouldnt work if sung without a mic.
