The big difference is some people don't care to play low res low fps gaming. Windows devices are supported via Windows updates and driver updates. Don't know why you think this device needs baby sitting after release like the steam deck.
i modified my my gold PSP 1000 with a IPS screen and took out the disk drive and replaced it with a 2800 milliamp lithium ion battery.. and put a ton of games on it.. PSP is awesome.. $750 is out of my price range.. but still a cool item.. glad your doing a dedicated emulation vid on this.. looking forward to it!
I loved the time and attention you put into animating the device speech. It made the video enjoyable, and it is a nice differentiating factor from other creators in this space.
That 6800U is insane, at only 10W I would have never thought gaming like that was possible. It is truly impressive how far integrated graphics have gone to reach this level of performance.
My handheld gaming pretty much consists of chess on my Android phone, but this looks like a very nice unit. If I ever caught the bug, I would definitely look into this.
Personally I think we need more smaller PC handhelds in the industry atm. I see so many giant slabs being sold, and don't get me wrong they serve their purpose, but as a huge fan of the ROG Ally I have and it's size profile, I'm itching to see more smaller handhelds. I got small hands and want something more compact / portable to bring with me places
My Ayaneo air is still my favorite of all my handheld gaming PCs. I like devices with lots of power but I agree, there's something special about the smaller size.
@@TechDweeb I've seen the Ayaneo devices, but my only concern with them is repairability. Since they are usually crowd-funded devices, I'm just worried about the process of getting replacement parts. I love the size of the devices they've been making as of late, but as a fan of the right to repair act, I'd take a device that's slightly bigger for the ability to repair it easily
I like the big screen, but you get to a point where it's probably worth considering a gaming laptop, tablet or simply play on your desktop PC. I'm not sure I would enjoy having to hold such a large unit for extended play sessions. One of the big points is portability, right? Units like the Ayn Loki Zero are more interesting to me because of its mix of size and affordability. For me, portable gaming doesn't necessarily mean that I want to replicate the performance of my gaming PC.
I dunno, I don't think a laptop is nearly as 'lap friendly' as a proper handheld. I think of laptops as portable gaming PCs, they're not super comfortable to play actually in your lap. As a portable PC, they're amazing, definitely go for that instead of this if that's what you need, but if you're actually gonna game on something in your hands then a dedicated handheld is gonna be way more comfortable than a laptop or tablet with controller. IMO. But I'm totally with you. Portable gaming shouldn't just be about the performance. For some people who don't have a gaming PC then I can see the draw for higher end devices, but for me my favourite handheld PC is actually my Ayaneo Air, even though it's the least powerful. I just love playing indie and low spec games on that thing!
Yea, the big screen is really benefit, I would say. There are really, many many games where the text is just too small / UI is too small. This 1 inch difference actually can make quite many games playable / non-playable.
Hey TD, Cranmoot@work... with that price point I'm wondering why not 7840U? Nice video good quality, I like AI Dweeb pretty funny when he shows his code. IDK if I agree that it beats the SD, I like that they went without baking in a bunch of bloatware. There is 1 monumental advantage the SD has over any other device, even devices on the horizon... The Community, The steam community is exceptional if steam doesn't fix it or make it work the community will. The screen is an upgrade, but at the SD 7" I barely notice 800p. If I need horsepower I moonlight into my sunshine server(sentence struck me as funny). Lol, you played the fork advice again. I was concerned you'd somehow get sued or a strike for that one. See you on the next video, keep up the good work.
Cran the man! Which 7840u device can you get for $700ish? The cheapest I know of is the ONEXFLY, and that's a much smaller device (the main selling point I drilled home here is the screen size). Ultimately I think the full price of this thing made sense when it was released many months ago, but the price has come down and it still seems like a great device. Hard to find a device with an 8+" screen for under $1000 as far as I've seen. I wasn't seriously saying this beats out the Deck and the Ally in every scenario (despite what my clickbaity title might suggest). It's more like for those that favor 15w and are into a larger screen (and a bigger battery!), this is worth the premium over the Ally IMO. And I completely agree about the Deck's community. It's a feature that no other PC has, let alone handheld. And the fact that so many devs are targeting it for their performance and settings. I had some lawyers contact me about the fork, some mental health coalition, something about giving unsanctioned medical advice, blah blah blah. I told them to take it up with Mom, I'm sure she'll sort them out.

Yeah that's a good point. Probably when the Legion Go hits we'll see a big reduction in the price of these other things. Even still this A1 (and all the 6800u devices) will likely have better performance at 15w, so I think they will still have a place until the 7840u devices can compete in price.

I don't know what I can do about that though. There is no money changing hands. The company sends me the thing, and I have to tell you who sent it and where you can buy it. It's either that or I buy everything myself, in which case I'd be only showing you the cheapest of the cheap. I'm not being dishonest about anything that I review. If it seems like I'm positive about a device it's because I genuinely like it. I'm generally quite positive about almost everything, I always find something to like. I love tech and I tend to look on the bright side. Maybe that comes off like I'm selling the thing or being paid, but I assure you I'm not, and I can only give you my honest word.
ETA Prime still has some useful takeaway content as long as one has a filter. As for TechDweeb, it's just genuine enthusiasm for a product that he likes and that's pretty obvious. It would be good if TD did sometimes comment he had views on what the support and updates of some of these Chinese companies are like. Sometimes, the hardware is perfectly fine but they abandon the software support and move on to pushing their next model after a few months.
This story will make sense, eventually, I hope. I use many devices to satisfy my entertainment "wants and needs". Nvidia shield is my daily driver. Except for 1 thing I love everything about it. It's the one thing that drives my absolutely nuts. Search. Query. Access to a search engine. I mean no access...Yes I've side loaded Chrome, Firefox etc, but the experience is "the experience". Putting something that isn't native in a device..is depressing in its experience on that device. It truly is the deal breaker in alot of cases for me. Which usually ends in a road that i don't really ever want to go down. Jailbreak road. When you pay hundreds of dollars for a device, you would at least think that you would be able to check your email on this hundreds of dollars device. No. No. No you can't check your email. No. You can't text your mom, wondering why she's late picking you up. No. No you can't pull up a map to find the closest methadone clinic 'cause your having a panic attack because your mom is late picking you up. Just no. Nothing. Only gaming. Only I/o. I/o in a cage.... BTW I'm selling my Nvidia shield on eBay now. I bought a old $30 client PC and made it into a open source Nvidia shield.... But aside from all that the handheld you reviewed looks really good but the price, the price... the price. Can I get one for free? I promise not to put it on eBay. Thank you for your review
I had a buddy who was super into the shield, and eventually he ditched it for the restrictions you're bringing up. Kinda silly that they locked it down like that.

Hope you didn’t break it when you dropped it.🤣
You’re starting to sound a little too sponsored, I like your channel but you don’t want to turn into an ETFPrime
Hey, he has to get that bag somehow
@@TechDweeb agreed.
