I was a GPD guy until the original OneXPlayer came out. I'm sitting out this generation to wait for the "8 series" (or whatever it will be called) but I will say, OneX has a build quality that's a cut above everyone else. It's just a nicer machine to hold than anything else, even a Switch. Yes, the original i7-based OneXPlayer is too big, the 2560x1600 display is too high-res, it's too heavy, and it's not powerful enough for the games I want to play (except Terraria, LOL)... but it is superbly built. What I really want though is a high-powered modern 16-32GB RAM machine with the form-factor of the GPD Win 2. A PC the size of a fat 3DS with the power of, well, a PC laptop. That would be perfection. Oh and use the OLED display from the Switch. That thing is nuts.
Great video! One question, at 14:30, you were saying EA's anti-cheat doesn't allow 1X console software. Can you explain that more? Does that mean you have to turn off the software to play multiplayer games? Like CoDMW2, Gears, etc? Or is that just EA-specific?
Thanks for checking out the video my man! To answer your question, EAs anti-cheat interferes with the Onexconsole so you won't be able to run it while any game that uses it is running at the same time.
It would be refreshing if reviewers would push back on manufacturers asking them to review prototype hardware, if its not what the end consumer is going to get then whats the point, that display could change in many significant ways, they may be using a different display entirely to achieve 120hz. Your experience playing on a vsynced 60hz display could be significantly more stable than playing unlocked on a 120hz display without VRR. It seems like this manufacturer is playing you reviewers for fools and hoping the consumer can be fooled too. They wont give you a review unit with the 120hz display because you would then be able to compare it directly to the Ally side by side and with the Ally having VRR this loses that fight, tearing, stuttering etc etc. They are banking on you saying that its amazing as it is even at 60 and on release is going to be 120hz so win win right. Its fishy, i dont like it one bit what they are doing, its not the final product and they are using peoples lack of knowledge about VRR to sell it because it has 120hz just like Ally.
Have to say I agree with this comment, it’s slightly false advertisement. Understandably this is a crowdfunded product.. but even still we as viewers are left in the dark on how the FINAL product will be because reviews are being forced to review prototypes and give their initial impressions rather than a honest and critical review of the hardware.
While this is a good point generally, in the case of OneX, I feel they've earned it. Their handhelds since the OneXPlayer have been really top-tier quality, really nicely built. I have an original OneXPlayer and it is still running perfectly (I've avoided Windows 11 though) and battery life is... well it was never great but it's still the same as it was when it was new (almost exactly two years ago today).
While the one x fly has 120hz it does not have vrr like the rog ally. Which is even more important on a handheld than the 120hz because it keeps the screen refresh in sync with the games framerate preventing tearing. On the ally games that drop below 60 fps still feel smooth because of the vrr.
A bummer but still way better than a regular 60hz panel. Screen tearing is lot less noticeable on 120hz vs 60hz, plus it lets natively play at 40fps out the box since it syncs up perfectly with 120hz.
@@midasgamespace thank you any chance for a deep dive into the control software video? My friend has an aokizoe a1 that I have used and am familiar with the software but curious about any other changes since then. Size, screen, fan noise, and software are the only things that really set these windows handhelds apart.
so i’m looking for something to play out and about or before i fall sleep. the onex size seems perfect for me but i hear a lot about the VRR , I like the Ally/deck for the quality and support for the systems but is kinda big compared to onex. witch one is the best pick ? especially for on the go
but the Ally has freesync premium and this does not, so on ally you get VRR plus FRC and you can alter the VRR range using CRU on the ally shifing the VRR range from 48hz up to anywhere around 30hz and up. Its a significant advantage for the ally screen.
@@MrBigpappaT VRR can be added but it wouldn't work if the display does not support it. So for example the playstation 5 never had VRR support on release but it did get an update so now it does support VRR however if you do not plug the PS5 into a VRR display then you will not get VRR. Many people were hoping VRR would come to steam deck via an update but a valve developer confirmed on twitter that unfortunately the steam deck display does not support VRR and any update the deck gets enabling VRR would be for use with external displays. Its highly likely the display featured in the onexfly simply does not support VRR, but they certainly could add VRR support for use with external displays.
The battery is better then rog ally ? If I'm not wrong, 7840U have same specs like Z1 Extreme, but Z1 Extreme is design for Portable Consoles and 7840U for laptops. In theory if even a little less capacity 40wh vs 48wh, I guess Ally will be better on battery because of this special customization/optimization by AMD for asus.
Honestly your review seemed a bit off, at 10W you are writing on screen 50+ for cyberpunk when you are mentioning unplayable drops below 30. It is very hard to believe at this point what you are presenting on screen comparing to what you are saying.
Thx mates, this was the exact key question needed answered. Using VRR with framerate unlocked on the ROG Ally has been absolute bliss, silky smooth and responsive. This means we'll have to turn on Vsync on this Onexfly, which will add alot more input lag.
@@gadgetsawol3614 you will still get screen tearing with no Vrr even if you enable v sync in game if the fps is over 60 and less than 120hz 120hz screen with no VRR is useless to be honest, 120hz is just there for marketing purposes

VRR doesn't make that much difference at all I would like to see ocu link however
