Thank you so much for this! As a child in the 1960's, I wrote to Mrs Oldknow, I mean, L.M. Boston, to thank her for writing her books, and to thank Peter for his illustrations, and she was kind enough to write back at length and send me several photos of the house, of Peter as a child, and of herself in her heirloom rose garden.
Wow. That was THE most enchanting story ! You are opening up the most amazing world to people like me who were sold very short on literature at our schools. God Bless, and thank you so much for this beautiful reflection filled with knowledge and wisdom !
My grandmother read me "A Stranger at Green Knowe" when I was a child. She then gifted me the book with a beautiful message written inside a few years ago. I am loving your videos, such insight and a marvellous way with words.
Great video thanks for sharing the story. As a child, I was insanely jealous of Tolly's adventures, particularly in the first book, when he played with the long dead children of the house. I remember the drabness and loneliness he felt when the magic wasn't happening and he walked around the grounds alone. There have been plenty of friendly 'ghost' stories but these books are next level
I love these books and discovered them quite by accident after watching a movie made by Julian Fellowes titled From Time To Time, based on The Chimneys of Green Knowe/Treasure of Green Knowe. It stars Maggie Smith and although it was changed from the book a bit, it's still magical. Thank you for sharing this beautiful book.
Thank you for this . I have only recently come to The children of Greene Knowe at the age of 62 and I am entranced. The books were mentioned in Ghostland by Edward Parnell which I recommend to you . Memories by Lucy Boston is on my Christmas list and I have ordered Yew Hall, can’t wait for it to arrive .
I was not familiar with the author or her work until recently. I am sure I would have been spellbound as a boy. By chance, I found the T.V. series a few weeks ago, wonderful stuff. Thank you for another excellent talk.
Malcolm I’m a new subscriber and I was totally enchanted by your post of the Green Knowe series. So much so that I just purchased an American first edition of the Chimney of Green Knowe but here in America it was published as Treasure of Green Knowe. I simply cannot wait for it to arrive!! Please keep up the wonderful “visits”. Paul
A wonderful reading, your meeting with Ms Boston and how that book came to you, Malcolm. Thank you for sharing those stories with us. What a thrill it must have been to meet her. All the Best.
Bless Lucy Boston for those words and ideas. We’ve had similar issues with censorship across the pond with the works of Mark Twain, favorites of mine in my youth. Jesus knew and provided our example.
How charming ! I’ve only just discovered this lovely lady ; can’t wait to prowl used book shops ( I used to “ work” in one ) for her ! Many , many thanks , M’ dear !
Wow. Thank you for sharing. Only recently come across your channel as I begin my own venture into pipe smoking. A study to sit, smoke, read and think is a dream of mine.
Funnily enough, I found out only recently that we can visit Green Knowe and I haven’t been so excited for years! I’ve demanded that we visit and my partner actually agreed happily. Not sure when but as soon as we can. Can’t wait!
I ADORED this book as a small child (and have re-read it many times as an adult). It was the first Green Knowe book I came across. Couldn't agree more, about the irony of not re-publishing! :-o Quite shocking. Btw I've just been introduced to your stuff by one of our ministers, who read a sonnet of yours at midday prayers here in Wakefield! (It had grafting in it, so as a gardener I HAD to follow it up :-) ) God bless you, & Happy Christmas
Wow! Awesome! Breathtaking! Wondered why I couldn't get Chimneys of Green Knowe when I tried to buy it. Oh I wish I could have been in your classes at school for at least one term. Thanks.
I loved the Children of Green knowe when i read it as a child, I have a copy on my book shelf now. I haven't read any of the other books in the series though and think I will have to rectify that as soon as possible. I just saw that there is now a reprint of The Chimneys or at least it looks like it on the dreaded Amazon.
Malcolm, I always come away with needing more books with these readings. Also, you kept the Project Northmoor a secret, or did I miss it? Have a wonderful weekend.

Lovely writer she was. I remember the first book staying with me for years. I loved the tv show too.
The Green Knowe books are old friends of many years. Thank you for this!
Yes they are!
I was not familiar with the works of Lucy Boston. Thanks for putting me on to her. Brilliant video. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it

Excellent, she was a genuinely enchanting and magical person, as well as author
I just watched The Children of Green Knowe. What an absolute gem. ❤
I’m about to revisit it myself. I may have re-ordered the first two books as a Christmas present to me 😂

Yes it was both thrilling and unforgettable
As a fan of the books it's wonderful to hear your story.
What a wonderful book, I remember loving it as a child and feeling very welcome in that strange world. An amazing gift thank you for sharing it here.
You are so welcome!
Bless Lucy Boston for those words and ideas. We’ve had similar issues with censorship across the pond with the works of Mark Twain, favorites of mine in my youth. Jesus knew and provided our example.
Really enjoyed this thanks! I also liked the BBC adaptation of TCOGK as a child. This was firmly in my collection, alongside Moondial and Chocky 😊
What a beautiful story Malcolm, and a most wonderful book. I can't think of a better home for it.
Thanks!
A true treasure. It found a great home with you. Slainte! 🥃💨💨💨

Just ordered a copy off amazon

yes, someones just alerted me to that. It looks like they've seen the error of their ways and reprinted it at last!
The Chimneys of Green Know is available in the US retitled as The Treasures of Green Knowe
that's good to know
Malcolm, I always come away with needing more books with these readings. Also, you kept the Project Northmoor a secret, or did I miss it? Have a wonderful weekend.
not secret but it joust hasn't come up naturally on this channel, but its out now!
Trying to find a way to express what your teaching means for me. I think I have found it. It is like having the wardrobe door opened.
Thanks so much, I'm honoured by the implicit comparison with a great master
Another great video. Would it be possible for you to do a beginners guide to pipe smoking video?
I'm not sure it would fit into the series but there are some great beginners pipe smoking videos out there!
