    This podcast was so much fun. I am so glad y’all are doing these. Somehow I knew when Ian opened up and saw hummingbird, somehow I just knew that wasn’t really it. I kept expecting Becca to say April fools. I really did, so I wasn’t too surprised at the end. But that was a fun way to do it. Keep up the good work y’all

    I can’t believe that was the color way people chose for Ian. Ian likes bright cherry colors!

    Fascinating info on DayDreamer butterfly quilt, Ian. I liked the pattern and you shared the pattern source with me. I never looked at the quilting on the quilt. I need to go back through You tube and look at it more closely.

    Plot twist!!! I thought hummingbird wasn’t really a good fit for Ian. People who know him even a little bit probably wouldn’t choose it. Great podcast, loved it.

    Love the podcast very informative and always fun with you two. I hate to be a party pooper but was very upset that the first thing I saw before the podcast started was a comment that it was a prank. 😢

    So much good info (as always). I hope you end up liking your quilt colors, Ian. I don’t remember what I chose but it was brighter. You’re a good sport. Becca, I love your striped quilt.
    Later: I’m so glad it’s not those colors. 😂😂😂. Funny.

    I'm a scribe and I love it! I am a very nosey person, and scribing lets me know what is said about every quilt. I look forward to the task. Another great podcast. Very informative. And by the way, I did not vote for Hummingbird Ian. My choice for you was Freebird. I was a little dissappointed for you, and surprised, but I am sure you will get a fabulous result.

    But ian, isn't one of the advantages of the puzzle mystery quilt is the ability to do a quilt top that is outside your comfort zone and branch into other colorways that you would not normally do? I can't wait to see your videos while you put together this next quilt.

    Oh, I have another comment. About judging. Judges can be just as flawed as any of us. In any art form. I used to teach voice. A student went to a singing competition. The judge in her comments said your German wasn’t guttural enough. The student was singing in Italian!

    The more I learn about quilt show entering, the more I don't want to enter. Why??? Non-guild quilt shows could not exist without us, the quilters, so why can they dictate the "no tracking device" with a quilt entry. It's not their blood, sweat, and tears into making the quilt, so what if it gets lost. If quilters united against such a rule & not enter a quilt in those shows where tracking devices aren't allowed, a more common sense rule would be put in place.
    I attended the 2024 Houton Quilt Festival lecture about quilt judging. It was eye opening. The person lecturing has judged hundreds of quilt shows, from big international, state fair, and such. He said that some judges will judge a quilt poorly because it has a lot of yellow in it or a yellow thread for the quilting.stitches. Judges have their idiosyncrasies. His was the binding, he took off points for bindings that were bigger than a 1/2 inch in width.

    Most fairs do not give feedback and they don’t use certified judges…the committee judges them. If you get a chance, scribe for a National Certified judge, you will learn a lot. How they are judged depends on the criteria of the category.

    I recently got the judges comments from a guild show I entered a quilt in. I was hoping for feedback that would help me improve my quilting. The feedback I got was a random set of generic sentences. Some were statements of fact. At least one was so vague I didn’t know if it was a compliment or a complaint. Based on the feedback, any quilt in the show could have gotten a ribbon!

    Why can’t quilts be washed before going into quilt shows?

    • @SewOffKilter
      @SewOffKilter  7 дней назад +1

      They can be! Some people will intentionally wash their quilt before entering it into a show to give the crinkle and texture. Others prefer their quilt smooth when entering their quilt. Really just depends on personal preference.
