Actually, the only Type 38 carbines that had the peep sight were ones that where made in Hoten/Mukden in Manchuria. They were also building Type 38s much later than the other arsenals; maybe even til the end of the war. They transitioned to Type 99s super late.
@@arisukak Thanks for that. I had one myself but wasn't sure if others from say Kokura might not have the sight or no? In the end, while i appreciate the Type 38, its the Type 99 thats my primary field of study. That and the Type 30. Always found those hookers interesting heeh
I had a 38 once that outwardly was in beautiful collectible condition but the bore was totally ate up and unshootable. Then I had an early war rifle with the chrome bore and the aircraft sights intact that was excellent except for minor stock dings. I shot that one with handloads. I found the round noise soft point bullets designed for .303 Brit. etc. grouped better than the proper sized Spitzer bullets in mine. Just a tip. Oh I had correct bayonets for both. Price those suckers now!
I've had a type 38 since 1987 my mom bought it for me at a gunshow outside of New Orleans for $75. I shot a box of rounds through it when I got it at $1.ea. back then. I found the bayonet in 2007 for $35. The collector told me my original sling was worth more than the rifle. Not sure what it's worth today.
In the gun business, I've had more than a few beauiful guns that shot poorly; and some ugly as sin ones that were lasers *shrug* Physics can be weird like that.
Excellent, Misha. I appreciate your work, brother.

Was this only the later mukden made 38s? Wondering as I've got a mukden carbine with no peep site..m
@@00Papyrus Yeah, only the very late ones in the 6th series had them.
