I moved here but two and a half years ago from California personally I love it It's just small enough or you have a small town feel but Greenville is literally just a 30 minute drive I think it's awesome It has everything you need It may not have everything you want but it definitely has everything you need. The downside is unfortunately some of the people. Tend to be very small-minded unfortunately not all of them but a good number are
I lived in Anderson from March 1988 until September 1995 when I move back home to Columbia. If I could live anywhere else in the state of South Carolina, it would be back to Anderson, South Carolina. If I am ever fortunate to do that, I would probably Want to be on the side of Anderson from the hospital past Anderson University in that area. There's some nice mid priced older neighborhoods that were built like in the 60s and 70s and early 80s that would be really great to live in.
One thing about the nature hikes I have discovered. Around Hartwell Lake there are many campgrounds and day parks that are closed. They do not open. I have checked with the Corp of Engineers, and it is perfectly legal to walk these areas. Plenty of leaf covered roads and paths to explore. Old beaches, some still have the picnic tables and grills. And best of all... No people. I have explored these with my dog for a few years. Some of the places are kept up by locals in the neighborhoods who walk them also, some are completely abandoned, and you can tell few people visit. Something about walking a mile to a sandy beach, hanging a hammock and relax and play with your dog all day without interruption.
I love the Anderson/Greenwood area especially the backroads in the county it’s so beautiful and calm, crime is rough but if you don’t hang with the wrong people in the wrong areas you will be fine 😊
We checked out various towns near Greenville like Traveler's Rest, Berea, Greer, Taylors etc and we rode thru Anderson but it wasn't impressive at all. Very junky, and looked really ghetto. That's probably the last town we would settle in.
I just watched Timothy French's channel. He's visiting town centers for dozens of towns in NC and SC. His newest was Anderson and it actually it looks very nice, so clearly improving in the past year. What caught my interest was the art scene and a giant farmers market and flea market five miles away. When the current White House resident is gone, the economy should pick up. I watched videos Rome GA and Anderson seems like a smaller version. I need a cheap place to retire.
Damn. I must have just found the shitty side of town. When I was there, there was nothing but drunks, crack heads, and clowns thinking they were way tougher than they actually are. I seriously wouldn't move back there if offered 100k to do so.
@@livinginsouthcarolina Thanks! I'm still trying to narrow my finalists down to a few that I can visit. Anderson is sort of the geographic center and most of my finalists are within the Greenville-Anderson-Spartanburg SMSA.
Andersons Growth has only brought more crime and more people we don't need here. We were just fine being a small town . Now it's more like Greenville before it became more like Atlanta. It's ridiculous. We are too overcrowded nowadays, the traffic is getting worse and worse by the day . Buildings are built on top of older businesses. So don't move here, we have enough people as it is now. I wish it would go back to being what if used to be where you knew your neighbors and you saw familiar faces when you went places. Now foreigners own just about every business around here, they price gouge you on everything from gas to a 20-ounce drink. Hartwell Lake sucks it stinks, and there have been so many dead bodies found in it, I would never swim in Lake Hartwell again, knowing what I know now about those waters. You can't eat the fish from the lake you catch, so scratch that off your bucket list. Move somewhere nicer. Drive bys are starting to happen. Drugs are rampart here now . Everyone and their brothers are on dope, and if not, they are in gangs and wanna be gangs. Crimes have sky rocketed here, and it used to be a really good town to live in, but not anymore. I actually want to move out into a smaller town with less population. I see people I went to school with. I don't even recognize now because they strung out on drugs. It's a shame. Can't find anywhere to rent that's affordable. They Rent mill Hill houses where shootings , theft and drug dealings happen every single day now for 1000 to 1200 a month or apartment communities that put on a good show to trap u into a lease for a year and you end up having violent neighbors or car break ins all the time. Take it from someone who's lived here since 1977 . I moved away for 12 years and came back, and it was a completely different world. Wished I had never come back here now. So find somewhere else if u really want to settle down and raise a family and have a steady and good paying job . You won't find that here. I can assure you of that . No one opens a new business and makes it here. They open for a year or two then it shuts down and it is gone. Unless you're from another country then you can have businesses everywhere and make tons of money and not pay taxes like the rest of us have to do. All the old business owners who worked hard to have their business all were bought out by foreigners and run out of the place they put their blood sweat and tears into for many many years. Cops are cocky around here now. Bunch of young men all the good cops are retired and gone . The ones who actually cared about helping people. Now they want to harass the innocent people and ride their tails when you aren't doing anything illegal. Yet let cars race down main roads where the speed limits are 45 and idiots are running 65 and swerving in and out of traffic and the cops just let them go. But they will harass someone. Who's going the speed limit obeying laws but maybe forgot to use a turn signal when changing Lanes. Cops aren't here to serve and protect anymore they are here to bully and harass you and let the real criminals walk freely out here with a slap on the wrist and they out the next day. So trust me don't fall for this crop you hear from someone who makes money from selling you a home. Come stay a week and see for yourself. There is no more country land here its all being taken over by developers and they are ruining what was a nice little town thst barely made it on the maps to a hell hole that is too expensive to live where he Said he and his wife live. No normal person can afford. It's all way over priced for nothing. Businesses you can't find them cause they build 10 more in front of it. Let's not fail to mention the worse hospital in south Carolina. Doctors here suck and they all are joined in with the sucky hospital Anmed Health. Doctors are even jerks now. They don't give one shit about helping you they don't spend time. With you and listen to your concerns anymore.. stay away from Anderson go find else where to live.
Hate to tell ya but the problems and issues in this town are from the ppl that are from this town ....all these zombies are your ppl ... talking about the cops lol plz the old retired cops from this town are the worst can't tell you how many times I was harassed in the 90s by crooked cops....Gene Taylor being the head of them crooks ...
Thank you for the very informative video. This was awesome and very helpful! My mother is thinking of moving to Anderson, is there a part of “in town” area that is safer than most or is Anderson overall a safe community?
I currently attend Anderson University and alot of Anderson is very unsafe. Downtown is not bad at all but anywhere besides that or On campus at anderson u is either country or unsafe. We hear gunshots every few nights and hear sirens almost every night.
We are looking to move to an area(for young families)that is up and coming, where we can buy a 2000 sq/ft home with 4 bedrooms and a large private back yard that is in the 250k range. Good schools, job opportunities, a safe area with parks and nature(hiking/waterfalls etc), but not too rural. We were looking in the Greenville area and loved the look of it, but it seems that prices have gone up dramatically in the last few months. We are looking to rent for the first year(next Summer), then buy a home. Would you recommend Anderson or any other cities? Great video. Thanks!!
