    Get ready to find out the real cost of living on Siargao! We broke down almost everything we pay for here to give you a good sense of whether this island is affordable or not. You'll be surprised at some of the prices :-S
    How do these costs compare with other islands in the Philippines?

      DITO TELECOM the 3rd telco company in the Philippines has started doing a huge milestone in improving internet in the Philippines. Hope that it will serve Siargao soon coz it already started in Metro Cebu and Davao and by June Metro Manila. This will gonna shake the 2 TELCO and lower their price.

      I think it's almost close to the cost of living in El Nido since it's both a tourist destination. But the beautiful, peaceful, fresh air ambiance, fresh foods is something much more worth the price and experience for a healthy and happy living you'll ever dreamed for.🤔😍🤗

      Hi, I just want to help to get you cheaper Internet in your area... First, If DITO TELECOM is available in Siargao you can avail of it. Check more details about them on their website. 2nd if you have a "good signal of GLOBE TELECOM in your area, Avail the GOMO sim, they offer much cheaper data. The sim card will just cost you 299 pesos with free 30G data with no expiry. And to buy data, it will just cost you also 299 pesos for 30G with no expiry. check GOMO sim on their website. Willing to help here for free, if you are interested, with my setup of Gomo sim Just Message me. I'm from Mindanao also, particularly in a remote area in Zamboanga City. I've been watching your Vlog since you came to Siargao and got lockdown... PEACE

    That is in no way a residential rate for a house in a not so touristy area of the Philippines. Of course, the view costs more, but you also have to take into consideration that everything has to be brought into the island.
    But then if your life is like an extended beach holiday in paradise, then that is a bargain by all accounts! 😍

    Siargao is considered by most local tourists to be one of the most expensive islands in the Philippines.

    • @lionhearted1969
      @lionhearted1969 3 года назад +26

      Any remote or less developed place, province or island, is always expensive as almost everything the local residents need have to be bought from bigger cities/provinces. So shipping cost in transporting goods from bigger cities cost a lot especially when shipping schedule is less frequent. If you're older, say past 50 years old, you should live close to bigger cities or provinces where medical facilities are available.

    Hello, thanks for all the great info. Questions: (1) is there good heathcare (doctors, dentists, opticians and hospitals) and veterinarians nearby? (2) Is there purified drinking water available? (3) How much of a problem are mosquitoes and other biting bugs/insects? (4) is there a small/moderate/large expat (Europeans, Americans, etc.) community? Lastly, Sacha how do you always manage to look so fresh and beautiful in what I imagine to be a very high humidity environment?! Thanks much in advance! Teri from SoCal USA

    • @lovelymae81
      @lovelymae81 3 года назад

      Hi Suzi- you need to get a travel insurance so you will get reimbursement for health expenses.
      Dental - the cheapest and best dentist. Extractions is only $5. Same goes with Opticians they are not expensive. An prescriptive eyeglass could be $25-$30.
      Theirs private and public hospitals. Public is free but lots of people there. But medications, xray, prescriptions, surgery, etc will come from your own pocket. Rooms in public hospital is free but likely it will be a bed space in a ward. Private hospitals are expensive around 3,500 pesos per night stay for rooms but all those medical expenses you have to pay in cash. You need the receipts for reimbursement to your travel insurance.
      2) purified water are sold by containers and you may consume 2 of those for $5 a month
      3) mosquitos/bugs - buy mosquito coil for $1 and sprays too.
      4) theirs rising xpat community espicially in Surigao because it is the surfing area in Philippines.
      Humidity environment yes. You will need air conditioning rooms at night.

      @@achillescane7380 I'm curious about locals taking advantage of tourists. If they are, then they would be millionaires making a killing, wouldn't they? Siargao is a highly sought-after destination both from locals and international tourists. BGC, Ayala-Makati, Eastwood, and many other local places are also priced high without the warm waters and great sunsets. Also, haggling at this Covid19 pandemic time? Really? People are skipping meals not by choice but because they've been laid off work, their hours cut, and businesses have to swallow losses. Imho, no one should be haggling at this time. The Siargao locals rely on visitors and they've been decimated.

Most Filipinos are quick to say they want to go abroad for a better life without really knowing what living abroad really means. You actually enter into a rat race over here where people are mostly stressed and not as friendly or nice to each other. Better health care system yes, but you have to pay higher taxes, not to mention mortgage, property taxes, high health insurance bills (not including dental or vision, car insurance etc. So yah, I wouldn't blame people who want to go live a simple but happy life in an island paradise.

      They are talking about Siargao's lifestyle and expenses though, not another city or municipality.
      That cost you stated was already mentioned by Jay & Sacha before. In case you have not seen their prev vlogs - they have an accommodation in Metro Manila which is cheaper. It's own by Sacha's father I think. But its in the city, they prefer the beach front accommodation. They actually have other options from the beaches of South Luzon but they opted to stay in Siargao.

      @@margaritasantos7288 That's not true. A 1-bedroom condo in either Manila or Cebu can only cost ranging between P20K to P45K depending on the development, if it's low-end or luxury. For us Islanders, the cost of living in the island is really expensive compared to other places. For one, we are in the tourist destination. Another, most if not all things we needed are coming from the main land. It doubled the price for the transport and howling. Construction materials are expensive too. Workers are more expensive because they are living in the island with the same cost of living. Repairs and replacements of your appliances and accommodations are constant due to the location fronting the ocean where the sea breeze penetrates even inside your house. Even fish are expensive too.. But the BEAUTY OF NATURE is priceless. That is the reason why despite the higher cost of living people choose to live here. The peace of mind you will have. The clean air, the waves, the crystal water and of course the loving people of Siargao. That's what makes you fell in love with the place. No boredom moments in the island!!!!! ❤️🎶
