    After I’ve watched a bunch of RUclips I get super worried that I will break a hip and die from muscle wasting because I don’t eat enough animal protein. Then I just try to remind myself that all of my family members that have passed in the last 30 years died of heart disease and cancer.

    Yes! I was influenced by family and "all the data" aka RUclipsrs that I was not eating enough protein, that carbs were killing me. After 4 years Vegetarian(98% vegan) I tried keto like eating with my husband. I gained all my weight back and felt terrible. Back on this way of eating now and feel so much better. I just tell them that doesn't work for me or that I have food sensitivities.

  • @kaakrepwhatever
    @kaakrepwhatever 13 дней назад +1

    In fact, in my life I have been told many times that it is not necessary to be concerned about getting enough protein, that no matter what you do you will get enough. I have asked a great many of these people how much protein they are consuming. Not one of them had even tracked their intake for a single day, because they had been told it is not necessary. I recall one woman whose beautiful long hair fell out after going vegan that she was sure she was getting enough protein because she read it somewhere. In fact the same thing happened to me on an extended weight loss diet some years back where I lost 90 pounds in a year.
    Most Americans are not obsessed with protein. They eat a diet that is mostly ultraprocessed foods. They get a high percentage of their calories from processed seed oils in the salty/sugary/greasy snacks they much on constantly. They get less than 50% of the requirements. They have given up on the idea that a normal person without an advanced degree can figure out how to eat within the guidelines.

    Recently, i've had to stop watching some of my favorite RUclips plant based cooks because they have gone from the Starch Solution type eating plan, to a high protein type plan. After commenting about it a few times, I just decided to move on. No point in following someone who doesn't get it.

    After switching to a whole food, plant based, no oil diet a couple of months ago (recommended by my primary care physician), I have lost 21 lbs. and feel so much better. In a couple of weeks I will go for bloodwork and see my PCP again, and I am hoping that my blood pressure and cholesterol levels have improved. I found your channel recently, and I appreciate your information and your friendly, positive approach to the research-backed guidance that you share in your videos, and YES, please share more information from How Not to Age by Dr. Michale Greger! someone with a PhD or masters, and accredited in nutrition is qualified to give advice on protein. Your protein needs depend on who you are, how old you are, how sick you are, your exercise demands, and other metabolic/medical issues. Older people short change themselves on protein not realising it's the basis of your immune system and function. It's not 'meat protein' that is damaging - always it's addictions, pollutants, metabolic disease and so on. There are very healthy omnivores out there, many live to over 100. the common medical advice is to get 10 percent of calories from protein but actually it should be more like one third of your calories in protein

    • @teresamoore4126

      Yes, prof Bart Kay is good as nutrition is his thing, he really breaks the information from studies down. I'm no longer a vege. I was a vege bodybuilder and started eating meat, my body fat dropped very noticeably and my muscle was more full. I just feel better, I'm not thinking about my next meal all the time.

      Dr. Greger has the medical background to evaluate the research. Not only that, but he has a team of qualified people going through the research for and with him. See also Miche, PhD (a scientist here on RUclips) who posted on how even the elderly don’t need extra protein above what the rest of us need, and Dr. Garth Davis who wrote a fabulous book, Proteinaholic, which finds as well that we (Americans and other “wealthy” nations) are getting too much protein (and should rather concern ourselves with getting more fiber).

    • @teresamoore4126
      @teresamoore4126 13 дней назад

      @@heidikamrath1951 There has to be something in the healing properties of meat. There are people with MS going full carnivore and coming out of wheelchairs, this after following the diet of specialist which I believe is plant based. Carnivore is healing the myelin sheath of mitochondria, this we can't ignore as damage to the mitochondria is the start of disease. People who have had heart problems all their lives, their hearts have healed on full carnivore diet. I'm not here to be antagonistic, I want everyone to be healthy.

    • @pbwithjeremy
      @pbwithjeremy  13 дней назад

      Can you find the scientific data to support the connection to the carnivore diet? If it’s not done in a controlled study then it’s hard to know if it’s actually the carnivore diet. We’ve seen the same results you’re talking about here in plant-based successes. And given those aren’t companies with thr saturated fat and cholesterol of animal products it’s pretty obviously which of the paths is better for your body long term.

    Greetings from Cape Cod! Thank you for this video. I keep hearing that i should be increasing my protein as i age in order to build muscle. How much though??

    • @pbwithjeremy
      @pbwithjeremy  17 дней назад

      If you are building muscle then you should increase it a bit. To increase muscle mass in combination with physical activity, it is recommended that a person that lifts weights regularly or is training for a running or cycling event eat a range of 1.2-1.7 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day, or 0.5 to 0.8 grams per pound of body weight.

  • @timothys9288
    @timothys9288 20 дней назад +2

    If you research how the RDA for protein was established, you realize the the 65-70 grams of protein per day was augmented over the research findings by a generous amount, meaning only the physically largest people need the RDA and most people don't need that much. Athletes would maybe be an exception if they are trying to gain muscle.

    • @AmyKozerski
      @AmyKozerski 16 дней назад +2

      ZOE channel on RUclips has a great video interview with Chris Gardner on the original study and calculation of 0.8g/kg. I show it to everyone lol. I especially liked the revelation that to put on 10kg of muscle in a year (a lofty goal!) one only needs an extra 10g or so per day. And people are out here shooting for like 80g more than they need every day as if they can eat their way into a ripped physique.

    Sorry , I'm so not agreeing with what you are saying. A diet higher in protein would have help so many people survive Covid, so sad to see so many people die from fear , poor nutrition and malicious medical care. I see people every day with very low albumin levels which comes from poor nutrition and you wander how is that possible in America. Simple, because many people are eating crap, foods with no nutritional value.

      A diet higher in protein if they're protein deficient maybe - but higher in protein than what your body actually needs doesn't save you from Covid. If they'd eaten more food with healthy fibre and fats then likely. There's very very few people who have a problem with getting enough protein.
