When I first saw their live performances on youtube I thought it was heavily produced to make it sound good for the DVDs. It's probably produced a little bit , but I recently saw them in Philly and they sound almost exactly like this live.
Most of the sound for the DVD came direct from the sound board and some of the room mic's. The engineers who mixed this did a damn good job, I just wish Kanami would let them turn her amps up. From everything I've read, she intentionally keeps her sound lower in the mix, so as to not over power rest of the band.

Kanami (lead) started on piano at 3/4 and picked up guitar in high school when she noticed that the other girls thought the guitar players were cool. Misa started on guitar also around 4 and piano, she also plays trumpet and alto horn, switched to bass in her second year at the Tokyo school of music. Akane also started on piano very young, plays trombone and then started drumming in the 11th grade so she was 16/17, she attended Tokyo Music School with Misa. Saiki and Miku (rhythm) just wanted to sing. Miku did not start learning guitar until after Band Maid formed, tutored by Kanami so around 2014, Saiki has been taking both guitar and piano lessons for around 2 years I think.
Man, how sweet of an addition to the live shows would it be, if Saiki could hop on keys for the songs that call for it

The Maids are back in May playing Daytona Florida and Ohio in a couple of music festivals to celebrate their 10th anniversary of the original 5 members.
I saw them in San Fransisco last Oct for the first time and they were Awesome. As far as this song and their wish in general, they want to be heard around the world. In the MV for this song everyone's head turns into the Band Maid logo. You know go to new places, see new faces and say Hello, Hello Hello.
Great reaction yall! The ladies of Band-Maid never fail to impress with their talent! Even without knowing a lick of Japanese I still sing along! If you really wanna see the drummer Akane go off then watch the Official Live video of Freedom where she has a full fledged drum solo, its incredible!!!

alrighty then, I am from West Ky. I'm so old that when I fart, I check for dust. I love BAND-MAID. The music they make just makes me smile. It's awesome. Check out the live video for Manners/BLACK HOLE. It's two songs that are totally different in types of rock. I found these girls by watching reaction videos. The best description I heard for Manners was from a South African lady who said "that's a proper rock song". Black Hole is in my opinion more chaotic but it really shows the bands range.

I'm 56 and live in Enterprise Alabama. Spent 25 years playing and writing in Nashville and 10 years playing in Los Angeles when I was real young. Would've said LA but I didn't want you to think Lower Alabama. 😏 This Band is as good as any band ever in their own way. What they do they do very well. Band Maid forever! Rock on Old fogeys. Discovered this brilliant band in 2016; and that was the beginning of a (one-sided) beautiful friendship. These ladies are absolutely flawless - splendid songbook, awesome musicianship, fantastic live performances. And the miracle thing is: they are still getting better and better.

Been listening to rock and metal for more than 50 years. These girls have become one of my favorite bands of all time. Their music just makes you happy when you hear them. So much talent.
Love watching people on their trip down the pigeon hole that is the best live band in the world aka band maid! love everything they do, saw them live in Seattle this past oct. AMAZING!

just subbed..Great "reaction" video. I loved that you didnt focus too much on the language and just enjoyed the musicality of this Great Rock/metal band. Im old school rock and it really is a put off when someone says "I really wished I knew what they was singing" ... like so many of my favorite rock bands of the past I never really understood what they was singing about but that didnt keep me from loving those old "classics" (i.e. in a Gadda da vida, Immigrant song, locomotive breath, aqualung, etc). Old Fogey here in Nort Cackalacky. I like to say their lyrics are "hybrid". Band-Maid has several songs in full English. Now on to "FREEDOM" LIVE from the same show. BTW- The hole you can fall in with Band-Maid is a "Pigeon Hole"....you'll find out as you go.

Don't speak or know Japanese, but I let the language of music connect me with their songs and vibe. They are incredible and stand up there with some of the great music I've know over the years.

awesome reaction guys! I think you would enjoy the live version of their song "freedom" it has a great drum solo and all the other good things. But honesly their catalog is over 100 songs and none of them are bad. The live versions are usually superior to the studio tracks.

I saw them live in Seattle Oct 12th that is exactly what they sound like. (Videos up) Domination was the finale. I recommend 'Dice' or 'Choose Me' or 'Play'.
The song is about not giving up and always go forward and to fight together.

Nearly 130 songs in their catalogue, 50ish MV on their YT channel. You have a way to go down the "Pigeon" hole, even though 2023 is the year of the rabbit on the Chinese lunar calendar. "Nipponglish" is the term a Spanish YT reactor suggested is the mix of language for Japanese/English, like "Spanglish," Po! All in all, the theme of Band Maid lyrics are up-beat, and they want to dominate our hearts with their music. Btw, BM will be performing at Daytona Int'l Speedway at the "Welcome to Rockville 2023" music festival on May 18, 2023. Kinda in your neck of the woods, Po! Great reaction!

Whoa! You fell down this Pigeonhole real quick. I just watched your first reaction. You were truly in awe, as we all were the first time we heard the Maids. This songs is basically an anthem for BM. Their intentions are World Domination, and this song clearly states it. Miku (Founder, 2nd lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, small pigeon, lyricist, PR spokespigeon, MC) had a quest to dominate the world with their music, and she is quickly achieving her goal. You wanna hear some drums, check out Freedom. You wanna hear Band-Maid do Band-Maid things, check out Manners/Black Hole. You'll quickly realize BM is a genre of their own.

Many Japanese bands and artists mix English into their songs. This is very common in Japanese music.

Most will probably suggest 'Freedom' LIVE next, which is great. It has an awesome drum solo. But I'm going to suggest 'Real Existence' LIVE. It's from a totally different tour. So if you want a song with a different vibe go for that.

Translating between Japanese and English is difficult. The written language is part symbolic with Chinese roots (kanji) and part syllabic (katakana and hiragana). Words can be written differnt ways, and which characters are used imply how formal or casual it is. They can also use western letters to represent the language (rōmanji). Their syntax is quite different. Even the components are quite different. The cultural references are quite different, with a different history and religion. Many, many words in Japanese depend on context, so the meaning changes. Machine translators like google or deepl sometimes give a hallucinogenic tinge to their translations because they've guessed wrong.
Most of the band use stage names: the lead guitarist and principle composer is Kanami Tōno, 遠乃 歌波 (Tōno Kanami in the Japanese style with family name first). 歌 = "song" and 波 = "wave". My account name refers to this. The rhythm guitarist, second singer, and principle lyricist is Miku Kobato (小鳩 ミク = Kobato Miku), where 小 = "small" and 鳩 = "pigeon". She says "kuruppo" and "po" because that's the Japanese version of "coo". She's a bit loopy but she started the band so I guess she's entitled. Her lyrics are quite poetic and almost always include some English.
They refer to themselves as "hard rock" but they've wandered into more progressive areas in their last few releases. Enjoy your trip through the pigeon hole. See, it's a joke because Kobato means "small pigeon" and also, this band is difficult to put into a pigeon hole. You'll see.
Oh, and they closed every (or almost every) show on their October tour with "Domination." They ended with a big "trash can" (you know, everybody just going nuts on the last chord), and Akane trying to fake them out for the final "final" chord. They have a lot of fun on stage and it makes their shows really enjoyable.
Pigeon is too small for these very talented young ladies. More like a boar den.
Look at the parts with MISA. You will see that she can instantly flip between picking and plucking.

You already reacted to Holy War of the same band but you have not reacted since then. Lovebites is one of the best metal bands in the world , which are active presently . I think Judgement Day is one of the best metal songs that have been released in the last 10 years.

Hey Guys! IMHO, Band-Maid is the best rock band in the world right now. There is another up and coming band that has a lot of Crossover fans with Band-Maid called The Warning. They recently met each other at the Aftershock festival in California and are mutual fans of each other. Please react to The Warning also. Start with one of these songs from their most recent (third) album called Error: "Disciple", "Money", "Evolve", "Error"(title track) or any other song, they don't have any bad songs. They are an old school Power trio of three sisters from Monterrey, Mexico, ages 22, 20 and 18. You won't be disappointed! Thanks!

Awesome band they are. The switching between languages during the vocals does throw us off a bit but its ok. We can always look up the lyrics afterword's. We'll check it out for sure.
