Visit to Minosaka Iaito

At the beginning of this week we had the privilege of visiting @minosaka.iaito in Gifu prefecture. The whole area has a long history in sword and knife making in Japan and now in modern times, the making of iaito swords, used for the practice of Iaido.
The workshop we visited works with the final stages of production: final shaping and polishing, making the hamon, tsukamaki, final assembly and dispatch.
The Minosaka team was very welcoming and kindly showed us the work they perform with great passion and care.
It was a special day for us and we look forward to seeing them again sometime soon! Hopefully to pick up our own custom iaito 😉.

Are these steel blades or zinc-aluminum training blades?

These are the aluminium alloy blades, not sharp.
