Maybe we should also talk about how Sg's pro-business/employer work culture and unreasonably early school start times are also huge causes of poor sleep and maybe the solution is in creating a more employee-friendly work culture and starting school one or two hours later rather than buying all these new superfoods and weird pillows.

It is good enough to have not enough sleep rather than no sleep at all. Even if it is poor quality like you only sleep for 3 hours and all the time waking up to pee, but you know that you did sleep a little. It is not no sleep at all. Or some nuisance keeps you from sleeping. Like you almost drop off to real sleep and some trouble making 4 W drives ride into your driveway and start calling out to your neighbor and all your sleep is gone.

It might just be metabolic, I was over exercising, under eating and not getting enough carbs which resulted in several nutritional deficiencies etc (thought I was being healthy at the time) unknowingly I was putting my body in a catabolic state which will cause the body to stay awake and alert, as it is meant to. Think about what you are doing and what messages you are sending to your central nervous system via the way you eat exercise and live...you might be putting your body in survival mode and its simply doing what its meant to be doing. It took me a long time to work out, I had put myself in a form of metabolic burn out. I did a sleep study, sleep hygiene, saw various sleep experts...they all missed this and the treatments offered were not relevant for what I was experiencing.
I hope this helps some people out there, it can be very frustrating particularly when you don't know why it is happening.

On the "investing in technology" bit, i have a really simple, inexpensive but equally effective alternative (for those who don't yet know), just get a pedestal fan that makes a lot of white noise & if it doesn't just cover the air intake of the fan at the back with a cloth.

@@aquarius113Hello, I'm a pharmacist. I would say try melatonin to see if that helps you, magnesium is also pretty good for aiding sleep. If those don't work then it's worth while taking the prescription medications to ensure you're getting a good enough sleep.
You can also talk with your doctor to see what they'd recommend because they should be helping you towards your healthcare goals. Your Doctor knows your healthcare situation and can advise you on the best course of action to take.
Do you know what may have caused your sleep to be inadequate?

Different people have different reasons for their sleeplessness. Once the root cause is removed, the problem will also be removed. If the root problem is not removed, you will still suffer. All the different remedies can work to a certain extend. But the problem still exists.

No coffee, no tea, no coca cola or other excitant at all during the day. Doing sports or just walk. Wash the face, decollete, arm pits and feet before sleeping or take a full shower.
Don't drink before sleeping, anyway I personally still want to pee... In this case, don't wait to go pee, go as soon as it wakes you up or it will ruin your whole night.
Don't postpone, during the day, what you can do now, do it now or it will bother you at night.
