Of all the videos I have watched on discrimination, I have noticed that when minorities speak on the topic they get more 'dislikes' vs. 'likes' averages, than when Caucasians speak on the same topic. Interesting study to conduct and report on (perhaps from a specific group- to make the topic more relevant to some). Speaker was so absolutely great and powerful in highlighting discrimination at its core; that even when he was not saying a single word or trying to.....he made his topic clear.

Psycholinguistic research has shown that people listen with unconscious bias based on gender, ethnicity and race. Social illness such as racism affects our brain cognitively.
After reading the comments on this video, I want to ask. Did some of you actually watch the video? The title alone made some of you angry/upset and disliked the video. In a sense this videos comment and dislikes makes this TED presentation %100 accurate.
I watched it and disliked it after I watched it. I don´t get how the way people watch this makes it any more true. His thesis is unfalsifiable. So it is pseudoscience bullshit.
Karl Popper was the originator of the distinction between _science_ and what he called _pseudoscience_. I urge you to look him up. It seams the US hasn´t gotten the message that empirisim and inductivism have been dead a century. Sociology is greatly corrupted and laughed at since the days of Freud. Thinking that adding tonnes of factors to your eqation will make it look more sophisticated is just childishly unscientific. You have to establish what you mean by "racism" befor you can quantify it. I mean come on this is school level common sense. What matters are the explanitions you develop. How much reach they have quantifies their relevane. A *good* explenation is hard to *vary*, which means that if you switch out any of its componants it doesn´t make sense anymore. If any of it´s parts are disproven the theory is gravely underminded. Theories are only verified by not being disproven and persisting. To achieve progress two factors are importand: *critisim* and *conjecture*. They are the foundation of knowlege, if you dont allow for one or both you´re allready discualified from being scientific and you earn the titel of pseudoscience if you claim otherwise. Now that we established what a good explenation is lets get into what sociology often gets wrong. Not all explenations are equal. For instance Freud could make any data point service to explain the problems of any given person, with for example both to much or to little attantion as a child. In good explenations like the current explenation for the seasons, if you only change the degree of the earths axis the hole explenation collapses. This acctually is a good thing. It is called falsifiability and is fundamental for science. English isn´t my fist language so I am sorry if some expressions sound a little bit odd. This subject has a lot more implications and is very imported to understand in order to navigate through the wave of bad science we face daily.
The youtube comment system makes it hard for me to reread this discussion I can´t see the comment to which I responded in the first place. Never the less I´ll try to answer as best as I can, just keep that in mind. Popper took on positivism and the like and earned a lot of respect for defeating them, but he is often misunderstood and the reach of his explenations is greatly underappreciated. His falibilism is not only the bases for good science today, but also of good philosophy. Ever since Popper introduced his crterion of dimarcation people have misunderstood him to say that testable science is the only thing that matters, when infact Popper himself had many philosophical theories which he himself valued very much. The truth is that the empirical and testible side to science is very small and allways theorylayden. What matters are the explenations underneith. Sociology like every other field is able to develop good explenations, but it is often held back by the misguided view that there are fundations to base ones theories (I would prefer to call them cretiques) on. This ted talk is a perfect example for this problem, because an explenation for what racism is and how it effacts human lifes is not explained, it is assumed. Since he only discusses corrilation it is clear that he doesn´t understand that they are meaningless without a propper explenation. I can demonstrate this with an example: In the seti project centre a champagne bottle is sitting in a shelf. If seti finds extraterrestrial life the bottle will be opend. This means that there is a close to 100% corrilation of the opening of that bottle and the existence of extraterrestrial life. In this situation the normal scientific explenations for opening a champagne bottle (pressure, kork decay) are irrellevent. The most important factor is whether there is life in the univers dicoverd or not. In order to explain why this bottle is being opened you need the right explenation, yet this ted talk doesn´t provide anything close to it. Now there are endlessly more things I would like to criticise, but I will leave it with this last one. He tells us and this should be a red flag for everyone, that he started with his conclusion and sought evedince for it (3:49). This will allmost allways lead you to bad science and is to make a far more important distinction unreasonable.
Taylor Wilmot All comment sections of historically oppressed groups do- blacks, people of colour, women, gays. I hope we can have more empathy for each other with time.
I agree. i cant stand the hate people are projecting. can we just love each other as people and stop the hate pls im begging everyone pls.pls pls stop the hate . thanks peace
They are, even including personal stories to prove the White Privilege doesn’t apply to them. But that’s not how systematic oppression or White Privilege works in a Society as a whole. Just because someone has had difficulty, doesn’t mean the color of their skin did not also protect them from other oppressions.
David this is what society keeps denying. This is so, so true. As a lawyer of 20 years in Britain am being told that as I did not work for a Legal 500 I do not qualify for a job in the private sector. I worked for government. How many other minorities are facing this invincible wall? This is an institutional form of discrimination. Thank you for sharing.
As one who has given a TEDx Talk before on a subject that touches on racism, this talk is very enlightening and really helps highlight something I as an indigenous African simply had absolutely no clue about. I challenge those who are watching to also research further on what he touched on about inferior medical attention toward minorities. It is a very sad reality especially when one thinks of America as the "land of opportunity". May God help more African Americans awaken and actively fight to change this subtle racism.
But will you fight to end the plague of anti-white racism that has been cheered on by the left? Funny how black people refuse to care when it's their own people discriminating against others.
I am indeed proud to listen to David more so as a St Lucian choosing to abandon silence, taking a stand against racism and discrimination which in 2020 continues to impact so many of our brothers and sisters. Our vibrant black colour considered a threat, not climate change, Nuclear war or cyber weapons.
I am in a country where I rarely see black people but we do have our own minorities. From cultural minorities to the impoverished. This video truly is an eye opener for me as it should be to a lot of people. I might not be in America or any other country where it is as easy to see racial differences but what he says makes perfect sense to me. People who does not accept this truth is pretending to be blind.
He seems like a smart and sensible man, I wasn't expecting him to present such a sympathetic view towards (unintentionally) racist police. He's far kinder than me, or most people
He added the neuroscience behind why humans behave the way we do. Our brains are automatically wired to evaluate threats and rewards. When faced with a threat, we fight, flight, or freeze. Most, if not all police who face Black men, go to fight as their stress response because they believe they’re being threatened (as mentioned in the comparisons between Black and Whites), sadly. And many Black men run and activate a flight response, because they believe they’re being threatened by the police. And because it’s inherent in us to act immediately, arming someone with a gun who knows how to use it, is the most dangerous thing to do under these circumstances. It’s an inherent response that requires an extremely high level of discipline to pause… Most people have not been trained appropriately to pause and evaluate their immediate thoughts, especially if they feel they’re being threatened. Until the view of Black people change and is generally more positive than negative, we will continue to see a continuation of deaths, whether consciously intentional or not. It’s a sad and painful reality on what seems like a never ending road.
Well stereotypes exist for a reason. If you're a police officer and you deal with the same community day in and day out you're dealing with the worst of those people.

It's more to do with the level of race-baiting this talk contains. If the speaker hadn't defaulted to the position 'blacks are helpless victims of society' within the first three minutes, people would probably have been more civil. We're sick of tired, inaccurate narratives.
David's presentation should be part of EVERY healthcare curriculum for every professional, of every gender, race, age, ethnicity, region, etc.... He so brilliantly described the full and sad nature of U.S. White Supremacy in every institution, and how each of us is unwittingly a part of, by the very nature of programming. To share this with such clarity, (which often involves an entire book) means he is so brilliant! What a testament to the coming together of mind and heart. ❤ I'm in awe of you, David.
I have to shake my head at all the blame and excuses I see all over social media of people who don't want to read and educate themselves so they could learn better and do better instead of sitting there doing not a damn thing because they are too proud or ignorant or stubborn.
There is no such thing as never. Anything and everything that can happen will happen in the fullness of time. It may have already happened, and we just haven't caught up to it yet.
It is sick. Absolutely sick. Everyone feels like they are victims. What needs to happen is that EVERYONE takes a course in math and statistics. Oh, and everyone needs to throw out antipositivism. Its ruining science
Philosophically, i say, what is 'racism' actually suppressing? ...is it not FEAR of self? Thanks so much David R. Williams for these statistical Evidence/measurement!
This talk speaks volumes. My hope is that someday there can be true, fair, equality between groups of people. This is still an issue, and it's important to remember that
Don't even bother with this comment section. Take a deep breath and walk away. Do something constructive, creative. Leave your comfort zone. Expand your experiences. But don't look down this toilet, whatever you decide to do.
Adding a comparison of African American with Africans in Africa would be a more balanced discussion. Ethiopia was never colonized how do they compare when there are no others to blame?
So...are all the negative comments/dislikes here from anyone who ISN'T black just generalizing this guy's talk down to "no data and/or stop whining about racism."? Did you even watch the video? For the love of God, what happened to just...listening? Just listening to his research and own life experiences and the life experiences of others? If you aren't black, you can't speak to their experiences, you literally can't put yourself in their shoes. Plain and simple. So why can't you just at LEAST shut your damn mouths and respectfully listen? Damn. People are assholes.
I know i'm probably going to get hate because of this, but every time I think of racism I think of black people because as a hispanic, I've been discriminated more by blacks than whites so its weird to hear a TED talk from a different perspective (In which white people are the racist, but I definitely know that any race can be this way).
that's the thing about liberalism. They have all their little categories of victims, and then they turn around and scold the white men, but it's actually their groups of victims who are attacking each other. Do you think a gay couple walking through the streets holding hands is going to get harassed or assaulted in the suburbs? it's a lot more likely to happen in the inner city
I don't like the VictimHood of Possessive Liberals. However this talk was NOT one of those things. This guy made a legitimate case that in Social stituations as a black individual you are always looked at with suspicion which does raise more of your stress/negativity. A lifetime of stress the comes from being perceived as a threat, are you less desirable human do leave to negative health consequences. In a way compared to a high school Outcast that for years of high school he is completely alone made fun of by everybody. Now well I disagree in this man stance on affirmative race hiring quotas I think the rest of what he said was fair.
It’s just a small detail, but did some of you notice how the sponge of his microphone around his head has the same colour like his skin? It’s like the new bandaids for darker skin tones or the new ballerina shoes for black dancers. It’s quite sad that it actually took so long that the Color of a darker skin tone is finally getting recognition in everyday supplies. Like scissors for lefties (a really BAD comparison but the only one i could think of rn)
The company is named Countryman. They have three or four different tones to try to match skin color: peachish beige (for whites), light brown and dark brown. It’s so there are no distractions when someone is speaking. It blends in with their skin tone.
This that Grey Poupon, that Evian, that TED talk. :) People want to pretend like their racism doesn't affect people's health. Yes, stress makes you sick, but what causes stress? Imagine a mother or father being racist against their own child. All of a sudden it's not hard to see how racism might affect health. Our community is just a larger scale of the family. Institutions that have the power over all aspects of life and death are structurally racist and staffed by people with implicit bias. Classism is the partner in crime with racism.
Andrew Shedlock people get really uncomfortable when they're reminded that racism exists and affects people in subliminal ways. watch, right now somebody who benefits from racism is going to respond to my comment super triggered by my even suggesting it.
I am not saying that I disagree, I was just pointing out that people seem very capable to see a title and immediately dislike it without even watching all of it. These people also seem to be able to reply to the video as soon as it is released.
Aracely Ramos Or maybe people are just getting tired of the bullshit? You mention the dislikes but what about those who liked the video before even watching it? If America was racist, explain to me how you had a black president? How you had a black television personality who's worth a billion dollars? I do agree that blacks are socially backward but pinning everything to racism to just childish.
Andrew Shedlock It's because this is not the first video of its kind is it? People are just getting tired of this repeated bullshit and the agenda of the modern day liberals. They watch for a few seconds and realize what this video is going to be about. Hence the dislikes.
Clicking away from a video because you presume what the content is going to be is very different from clicking on a video, disliking it and not watching it because you disagree with an ideology that agrees with the video.
Haha but how would people be able to support their narrative if they use a control group? I mean who needs the scientific method when you can simply convince people with terrible studies!
Exactly, I don't understand why people don't get this concept. What's wrong with being different? Some are smarter, more attractive, stronger, etc. Life isn't fair, get over it.
Really good insighful presentation. I would love to see him have a group meeting with Thomas Sowell, Bob Woodson, and Ben Carson. Bob Woodson a civil right leader has been really working hard to raise the standards of the black community, Thomas Sowell a black economist has done many studies on history etc regarding slavery etc. The sad thing that I see that has hurt the Black Community more than anything is the Democratic Party. Like Joe Biden said...you ant black if you don't vote for me. That should say it all. Yes this country can do better especially if they repent and turn back torwards God.
Time was when Dr Frances Cress Welsing was the only one who did research, documented and spoke much about this issue. She was the only voice in the world. She stood alone with practically no support.
I just don’t understand how residential segregation is to blame for single motherhood. This man is such an eloquent speaker! I enjoyed this video immensely. So, if anyone can answer my probably idiotic question, please do and thank you in advance 💜
More opportunity means more.jobs and more people.working, means less crime to support families, means more fathers at home and.more two parent families.
It's very sad. Because it's not only black. It happens to anyone not white. Or if their nationality differs. I.E. Chinese, Vietnamese, Russian, German, Irainian, Mexican. It really sucks. Not everyone feels that way.
Women don't have the same institutionalized barriers that black people have. They aren't limited by their zip code and years of de jure segregation. You're right in the sense that women, of all races, have worse health outcomes to men in some respects, but women are also more likely to visit a doctor over men. These things are inherently different. You're comparing apples to oranges.
It would be a true shame if just because I was white, I was presumed to be racist for calling attention to a contradiction in speech. Which, there are some who know, that I would do it to anyone. No matter their color, as it has been done to me as well. No disrespect intended.
rascism is an experience you gain but that you immediately show that it happens at a similar level for every level of education. Like you just refuted ur own point. How isn't there a single comment about this.
I want to add something after watching the video that's worth bringing up. around 7:30 it's mentioned that if we see a bias in a different group, we automatically treat them with suspicion. Doesn't this stem from pattern recognition? If one group behaves poorly towards others at a higher frequency,. then it's natural that we treat them with suspicion. It is a survival instinct that is automatically do to protects ourselves. It's natural.
This man is saying that he want's the lives of black americans to improve... what could possibly be wrong with that?? I am shocked that as of this writing there are 876 down votes. Where is the humanity? How amazing would this world be if we were all united and worked towards common goals and the betterment of all humanity? Our ability to work together is precisely why humanity is were it is today, and why we have such great accomplishments. I don't know if his facts are wrong or right or somewhere in between and in all honesty it doesn't matter. The reality is that black America is telling us they feel mistreated and unequal so let's fix it... THAT is win win for everyone involved. If you use logic, I don't see how anyone could come to a different conclusion.
As a paid advocate for human rights, BLM supporter, and someone who literally named their 1 year old bisexual child "George Floyd", I wanted to to take this opportunity to make a public service announcement: Black folx, and folx im general are welcome for the incredible work us advocates do. We are literally changing the world for y'all, and you are welcome for our saving you. 😇
As a black immigrant I always got confuse with whites hating black in the U.S. Because in Haiti,we have a lot of Caucasian(I mean a lot of them, they are mosly coming from the U.S) and I don't think they are racist. There is even some of them living in front and 2 blocks away from my house, they are zaine people. They even got their kids in the same schools as us. Well...Can someone tell me actually what's wrong over there? P.S:Sorry for the way I write.English is noy my first language nor my second ;)
Metric Imperialist I don't think its whining. It's just extremely clear that most dislikes did not watch the full video. How can you dislike something based off a title alone? It's very reactionary and emotional.
Sara Freedom Most of the likes didn't watch the video either... why isn't anyone talking about that?? Every time TED talks about racism, it's always the exact same bullshit, it's basically propaganda at this point. People who have watched TED for years know they have an agenda.
Metric Imperialist That may be true but if you feel that way, use what the speaker said before against him. Im honestly sick of the propaganda too trust me I'm in college I see and hear it daily. However, just foaming at the mouth and not listening to what's being said, isnt helping either. I hate the race baiting and tension that has risen over the last couple of years. People are buying into the racial divide and aren't paying attention to what's really going on.
Yes, there's a lot of racism which is unconscious and yes, there's a lot of racism embedded in every system contributing to the running of America - but *_what is wrong with people_* who are STILL committing individual acts of harassment?
So if there was a lot of positive comments and likes, you would assume they prove the speaker's point. However, the amount of negative comments and dislikes makes you assume they... prove the speaker's point.
Greetings Hanaan. I believe (with the deepest respect), that it is impossible to apply a reductionist or a strictly empiricist view, as you have. The impact of racism, can't be isolated as a discreet socioeconomic, psycho-social or even longitudinal trauma that can be understood via epigenetic exploration. Pharmacological, penal, family support, healthy nutrition, housing fit for life, an intelligent and appropriate educational interventions. This will enable human beings to think and imagine a life of beauty, recognise the ecology that binds them, the geography that ensures life. I trust that this has been a positive contribution to this discussion. Stay blessed. OL. Eli
I work in the medical field. I see no diffrence in how anyone from any race is treated diffrent. I work with people from all ethnicities, from various countries....and we treat ALL patients with the same respect. even addicts, frequent fliers, etc. regardless of race.
It is the structural determinants that matter, as the man has explained. What you see at the frontline is the surface and not reflective of the deeper issues. Also, you have to factor in the unconscious bias that may cloud your own observations.
Every time I've ever asked anybody about the worst time they've ever experienced racism, I just get called a racist. Maybe people need to start thinking for themselves instead of just parroting what the politicians want them to say. If politics didn't exist. Neither would racism.
Lol. Because youre already starting with a bias that shows your restraint to understand the testimony before its even provided. You appear to be in denial, so why waste time talking about the hardest things that we experience DAILY. We experience it everyday. Everytime we go to the store, a restaurant, to buy a house, rent a house, etc. its not when its how often and to what extent. Something you wont understand and by your statement you will never allow your mind to be open to understand this is real.
@@scoobynicker easy to say for a white man who doesnt even realize his privilege that he hasnt even earned. You get over yourself. Afraid to look in the mirror and see whats been done and what consequences it has. True coward.

To everyone whos weirded out by the fact that every single video with racism and feminism in the title, or even something that makes people think about these two topics gets so many dislikes needs to know that people who come here want to hear about interesting and marvelous things and not bullshit they hear every day on tv. Ofcourse some videos are great but the way their titles are structured just begs for a fucking dislike (a video about encouraging people to raise their doughers as independent and strong is one such example). Not all talks need to be about space or ground breaking inventions but please, don't bring up racism wherever we go, because it's sickening. And the worst part is that we make out racism to be a way bigger thing than it actually is. And we always talk about black and white races relationships, and examples of black people being racist towards white people are never brought up. So please, keep these topics out of TED especially since videos like this bring nothing new to the table and are just boring.
"Uhh excuse me, youre racist because you find this topic boring after having to listen to this bullshit your entire life". Give me a break. Whites are not even allowed to breathe near a black person because it's fucking racist. And if it's a woman then it's also sexist... and xeno-fucking-phobic if shes a muslim.
Well white get talked about cause whites do majority(keyword there) do most of the conquering. Native American Blacks Asians Chinese Japan Island people Just sayin. Yea there is racism towards whites, not calling it right. However in America in comparison to whites vs minorities....
jealousy, trauma, personal hate...and many bad feelings makes racisme, personally i don't have any kind of racisme toward anyone because i'm more like focusing on myself than critisizing others,if you want change then you should start with yourself.
If my White family moves into a predominantly Black neighborhood will they gain or lose as much, less or more than if my Black family moves into a predominantly White neighborhood? Don't we take much of our culture with us? So, the conditions and culture in the black community that were founded with a cultural history of slavery and resistance to the "man" continue to hold my Black family back from succeeding in America or the White neighborhood. Of course there is no such thing as color blindness but if my White family moves into a predominantly Black neighborhood, likely the neighborhood will not eliminate White Privilege, but the equality with the neighborhood will likely also limit opportunities, even if we begin to "feel" Black or "act" Black. White's have a saying that you can take the girl/boy out of the hills but you cannot take the hills out of the girl/boy. My feeling is we need much more than integration in neighborhoods or schools to equalize opportunity and success in America. First of all, the income inequalities in this nation are way out of control so that the top 1% have more wealth than the bottom 90%. We must discuss income inequalities and job creation for the dignity of all Americans. Secondly, we need to agree on some cultural commonalities. We are supposedly teaching citizenship in schools. We also need to teach work ethics, reduction of hate ethics, the elimination foot dragging from the history of resistance to the "man", fair play, honesty and self esteem, self confidence and a disavowal of violence in all forms, especially in schools. Until we agree on commonality of cultural values, there will always be economic differences. Until we agree to stop income and wealth inequalities, we will always be struggling for the same piece of the pie which only the privileged will get. Until we create self esteem building job opportunities for everyone who can work and who is willing to work, we will never get equality.
And it is not about the RUclipsrs race. It is about their words. Just because I am white, it doesn’t mean that I am unaware of white privilege. He says race isn’t your future. Myself, I am average. I am a minority myself. Although I am white. I had trouble getting a job because I didn’t know my rights that I don’t have to reveal everything about me. I don’t like the Kennedy’s. This man doesn’t know everything and seems grandiose. It seems like grandiose can cause success. People believing they know more than me cause they don’t have a diagnosis.
We need to have more conversations about racism,we need our white brothers and sisters who can't stand racism, wants to end it, much like they helped us end slavery, Jim Crow.if only white people could live with black skin for 1 year and see what it's like. This country is not a Christian nation as some say it is, they get upset when you say it's a racist Nation.
Of all the videos I have watched on discrimination, I have noticed that when minorities speak on the topic they get more 'dislikes' vs. 'likes' averages, than when Caucasians speak on the same topic.
I can demonstrate this with an example:
In the seti project centre a champagne bottle is sitting in a shelf.
The comments section truly reflects what Mr. Williams is talking about here.
Taylor Wilmot
All comment sections of historically oppressed groups do- blacks, people of colour, women, gays.
The world needs more people like David R. Williams. What a great talk.
Indeed it does! Fantastic watch.
How are you a minority????
@@Krawn_ How are you even asking? In Britain there are many. Good bye.
Economically. But socially America is a failure especially on racial divisions
I am here because I saw he was St. Lucian. I am Grenadian though but proud as well.
Coz he wasn't giving opinions
He's giving facts and truth, which is always not biased
Amazing, and so insightful! I understood the psychological, and health effects of racism along time ago.

One of the best speeches about the black and white race dilemma so far 🙏
@Groszek Grzesiek hate more between black or white dilemma?
All this salt in the comment section though. It's like people get triggered anytime someone mentions race. Sad.
It's more to do with the level of race-baiting this talk contains. If the speaker hadn't defaulted to the position 'blacks are helpless victims of society' within the first three minutes, people would probably have been more civil. We're sick of tired, inaccurate narratives.
SAD!*
Joseph Gamache
Well Blacks are helpless victims of society generally speaking.
watch?v=FuN_2ik02jQ
Joseph Gamache you have a point but when this video was first uploaded it had more likes than dislikes in less than 2 minutes of going live lol
@duo maxwell You're an idiot.
The comment section and like/dislike ratio of youtube is a good indicaton of the society and how sick it really is.
We humans will never change
Because not agreeing with someone who talks about racism means that you are a racist too...
There is no such thing as never. Anything and everything that can happen will happen in the fullness of time. It may have already happened, and we just haven't caught up to it yet.
That response... did you write it under a wrong comment?
It is sick. Absolutely sick. Everyone feels like they are victims.
What needs to happen is that EVERYONE takes a course in math and statistics. Oh, and everyone needs to throw out antipositivism. Its ruining science
It is indeed saddening how many likes this video has. So many stupid people upvoting this...
How about debating the people that have different opinions then you?
Maybe you'd realize that not every comment is racist.
You can take the comments out of the cancer but you can't take the cancer out of the comments.
Pathetic safe space liberals. You disgust me.
Adding a comparison of African American with Africans in Africa would be a more balanced discussion. Ethiopia was never colonized how do they compare when there are no others to blame?
too late :/
I love listening to Dr. Williams.
Wow, this man is awesome in his delivery of this topic. He is so real about it thanks very much, Dr. David. I will share this video. Glad l found it
So...are all the negative comments/dislikes here from anyone who ISN'T black just generalizing this guy's talk down to "no data and/or stop whining about racism."? Did you even watch the video?
For the love of God, what happened to just...listening? Just listening to his research and own life experiences and the life experiences of others? If you aren't black, you can't speak to their experiences, you literally can't put yourself in their shoes. Plain and simple. So why can't you just at LEAST shut your damn mouths and respectfully listen?
Damn. People are assholes.
Best amazing video I watched on TED. So true, when will people wake up and understand.
thank you... that was so well presented... I'm glad to have stumbled on this video...👍
@@cartmanfan4life1 and why is the inner city the way it is ? Why is it mostly poor black people and why are the suburbs wealthy white folks ?
I just saw your name. Yes, BTS also uses them during performances.
Why is even discussing racism so toxic to some people? A discussion is the most important thing in the world.
I think people are sick of the pone sided presentation.
What is one-sided about this?
Excellent in-depth exposure 👏🏾👏🏾
This that Grey Poupon, that Evian, that TED talk. :) People want to pretend like their racism doesn't affect people's health. Yes, stress makes you sick, but what causes stress? Imagine a mother or father being racist against their own child. All of a sudden it's not hard to see how racism might affect health. Our community is just a larger scale of the family. Institutions that have the power over all aspects of life and death are structurally racist and staffed by people with implicit bias. Classism is the partner in crime with racism.
This brings new meaning to when Dave Chappelle said in a sketch: "This racism is killing me inside!"
Like here in Brazil. the same thing happens.
benedito almeida Brazil sucks
Great talk about some uncomfortable truths. We can and must do better than we currently are.
Speech was great! Just one thing. Why is the speaker talks only about the US? There is the problem of racism around the world, not only in the USA.
That's where it was harvested
🤡🤡🤡
A 17 minute video that was posted less than 10 minutes ago and already has a majority of dislikes. Something seems odd about that.
Clicking away from a video because you presume what the content is going to be is very different from clicking on a video, disliking it and not watching it because you disagree with an ideology that agrees with the video.
please do this study again in majority black countries! I just want to see a counter study. No study is complete without a control group.
Someone give this person a cookie.
*Good point, Tomyo95.*
Tiavor Kuroma You don't understand the meaning of the word racism if you say that.
Tiavor Kuroma any county, do this study in Brazil, china, Japan , Greece.
Haha but how would people be able to support their narrative if they use a control group? I mean who needs the scientific method when you can simply convince people with terrible studies!

so basically.. Stress kills.
But also, the cyclical nature of racism ensures that things won't get better unless we dismantle the root cause.
We are all human, we all experience emotions and struggles, we are all created equal
VCG Construction except we aren't created and we are only equal before the law, not nature. just being a smartass as allways i guess.
Not true. Everyone is different. But, that's OK.
But some are more equal than others.
Exactly, I don't understand why people don't get this concept. What's wrong with being different? Some are smarter, more attractive, stronger, etc. Life isn't fair, get over it.
TyLinkster race isn't a reason to be treated differently tho
Great speech... only people that refuse to educate themselves can disagree
We need Dr D Williams to come to the UK. A survey claims racism does not exist April 2021.
Everything he talks about has way more to do with culture and less to do with racism. He should debate Thomas Sowell.
racism is apart of our culture
Ay?🤔🤷♀️
Oh, you're one of those that preach Uncle Tom's message? Stop, this is pathetic.
Great person who learns me the history of US and how we can prevent the racism also in UE !
What would you do if your son came home with a broken hand saying that the police were rough with him and he's in so much pain?
Boy the comment section sure is explaining exactly what he's talking about.
@@MizzGidget Thank you for your comprehensive, succinct response.
It's very sad. Because it's not only black. It happens to anyone not white. Or if their nationality differs. I.E. Chinese, Vietnamese, Russian, German, Irainian, Mexican. It really sucks. Not everyone feels that way.
Why all the dislikes? You people are just proving the man's point here.
If this is true, shouldn't women be dropping like flies from discrimination?
Women don't have the same institutionalized barriers that black people have. They aren't limited by their zip code and years of de jure segregation. You're right in the sense that women, of all races, have worse health outcomes to men in some respects, but women are also more likely to visit a doctor over men. These things are inherently different. You're comparing apples to oranges.
If the system have been designed to benefit some over others then that is what we see in society.
As a paid advocate for human rights, BLM supporter, and someone who literally named their 1 year old bisexual child "George Floyd", I wanted to to take this opportunity to make a public service announcement:
Black folx, and folx im general are welcome for the incredible work us advocates do. We are literally changing the world for y'all, and you are welcome for our saving you. 😇
Good talk.

Just sick
Morons whining about the dislikes is what's making people sick. Grow up.
I watched this in 2x. So my dislike came after 9 min.
Great presentation
Man how about those Native Americans though? A human race almost extinct because the White man. Some things you just cannot deny.
SOOOOOO TRUE. THEY SEEM A FORGOTTEN PEOPLE GIVEN THE WORST AND CRUMMIEST PIECES OF LANDS TO EXIST ON. SOOOOOO VERY SAD!!!😔
I will trigger a ripple of hope also...
Yes, there's a lot of racism which is unconscious and yes, there's a lot of racism embedded in every system contributing to the running of America - but *_what is wrong with people_* who are STILL committing individual acts of harassment?
Racism is pattern recognition and it's rational. There is no way it will ever go away as long as we see patterns.
No stop this
there is more appeal to authority in this talk than there is a talk.
Interesting Perspective!
Don't see why everyone hates the comments or the dislikes, they prove the speaker's point
So if there was a lot of positive comments and likes, you would assume they prove the speaker's point. However, the amount of negative comments and dislikes makes you assume they... prove the speaker's point.

I thought women are discriminated by men all the time?
Why do men die younger?
cause gender roles encourage men to live lives and make decisions that shorten their life expectancy. No?

I work in the medical field. I see no diffrence in how anyone from any race is treated diffrent. I work with people from all ethnicities, from various countries....and we treat ALL patients with the same respect. even addicts, frequent fliers, etc. regardless of race.
It is the structural determinants that matter, as the man has explained. What you see at the frontline is the surface and not reflective of the deeper issues. Also, you have to factor in the unconscious bias that may cloud your own observations.
I'd like to Here by use this symbol to stand for Black wisdom 👌🏾BW
13:05 did he seriously just quote Plato in a statement that completely dismisses his entire argument? My tax dollars paid for his education through affirmative action for this!?!?
I been treated more racist from blacks then white
So black and white relationships are boring for you? I bet you're white and you're racist
Native American
Blacks
Asians
Chinese
Japan
Island people
Just sayin.
Yea there is racism towards whites, not calling it right.
However in America in comparison to whites vs minorities....
0 likes and 3 dislikes immediately afyer release? dayumn, those guys sure did watch the vid.
also, third
That would make you 4th, or the 3rd dislike :P
You're like the guy who writes first but ends up being 10th to comment... I doubt you were the first to finish watching.
Well he was technically talking about the likes/dislikes rather than the actual video.
L, that made no sense.
jealousy, trauma, personal hate...and many bad feelings makes racisme, personally i don't have any kind of racisme toward anyone because i'm more like focusing on myself than critisizing others,if you want change then you should start with yourself.
Ibra the bad boy I totally agree
We as African Americans need unity and that will allow us to fight together and we know once you racist you forever racist.
People who see racism in everything make me sick. TED, bring back the real deal. Done with this verbal diarrhea.
Ethnically too, I am a minority
I love real talk
The poor educational system has castrated a lot of our people in America
We need to have more conversations about racism,we need our white brothers and sisters who can't stand racism, wants to end it, much like they helped us end slavery, Jim Crow.if only white people could live with black skin for 1 year and see what it's like. This country is not a Christian nation as some say it is, they get upset when you say it's a racist Nation.
It's always blacks vs whites, never yellows or brown
How -racism- poverty makes us sick.
great speech. very informative
