  • "Musique Pour Supermarché 1" by Jean-Michel Jarre from "Musique Pour Supermarché/Music For Supermarket" (1983). The album is notable for having only a single copy pressed, and the subsequent, deliberate destruction of its master plates, effectively making the copy unique.
Jean-Michel Jarre a utilisé aussitôt l'argument « Piratez-moi ! », suite à cette unique diffusion à la radio, et le bootleg a bien eu lieu ; la qualité en est néanmoins médiocre, les enregistrements ayant pour source un flux de radio AM.

That's easily his coolest song in my opinion.

Honestly, the album kind of works like this. Being culled from a lo-fi radio broadcast sort of changes it from an electronic dance-y type album into a more ambient, distant kind of thing with all of the static, stations bleeding through and general degradation of quality. People’s comparison of this to vaporwave is not at all unfair. Makes me think of two Russian guys hanging out in some shack in the Soviet Union in the 80s, just barely getting this music to come through on their crappy AM radio.

Julio Cesar Gomez there was no “original CD.” Only one official copy was ever made and it was a vinyl record. That one copy was played on the radio once and then sold to a collector at auction for an extremely high price (can’t remember how much). What you hear in this video was recorded directly from the radio the one time it was ever played. If you’re asking what happened to that one original, official vinyl record: no one really knows. It is known that the record has had at least two different owners since it was created, but no one knows who has it now.

Julio Cesar Gomez well, if you’re rich enough and you can find the current owner and convince them to sell it to you, you can have it. Are you rich? If you do end up getting a hold of the original, please have it professionally ripped and share it with the rest of us 🙂
      Good luck!

Julio Cesar Gomez I want to know too! 😱 One important thing to remember about this album is that it was made and sold like a piece of fine art, not like a normal album which has millions of copies made. When art is bought at auction, usually the winning bidder has the option to stay anonymous. A little work and the right friends could maybe help you find the name of the Mystery Owner! 💿 👀 😎 🎧
