Why was this not nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song?! It's a masterpiece.

@@ozieikram2511 What's even worse is that there were only 3 songs nominated that year!!! It's not like they pushed it out of competition because they felt SO many others were better. The Best Original Song category has had many, many controversies, though. (For the record, no pun intended, the 3 nominated were "Let the River Run" from Working Girl, which won, and is a great song, "Calling You" from Bagdad Cafe, a great song from a film NOBODY saw, and "Two Hearts" from Buster, by Phil Collins, which was from a film... starring Phil Collins.............)
I was ten when I saw this scene originally, I bawled my eyes out then. I'm a father of 4 now, and it still brings me to tears.

I'm there with you. Kate's birthday today so I obviously had to look for this. Lost my wife 27 years ago, remembering this movie crushed me. Kids are grown and the house is (almost) empty. I miss her so much.

Me neither. Try And So Is Love for a real sob fest. I always burst into tears at the same point when she cries out 'and so is love'. It was about her mother who had recently died.
She made some of her best music by choosing to continue her passion and craft not dictated by desire for riches or fame but from wanting to express herself.
And so you get this honest, heartfelt music where the situations they're about aren't some unrealistic fantasy but by the situations we face as humans.

I won tickets to the premiere of this movie. I was 18 and watched the movie with Kevin Bacon 2 rows ahead of me. Even at that young age, this song captivated me and really tied this movie together. Thank you Kate ❤️

John Hughes asked Kate to write a song for the movie having being a big fan of hers. He told her about the scene he wanted the song for and she wrote it. so she did know about the scene but the song is beyond on point.

Yes, but for them to give an Oscar to A British Lady at that time was unheard of. They gave it to Adele for Skyfall from the Same Movie. Did you ever hear Maxwell's Version or his Version of Roberta Flack's Feel Like Making Love.
Makes me cry every time. Especially since there's a whole built up to this scene in the movie. The song is great (and for once, she takes a male POV), but the way it clicks with what the movie sayeth (just watch the way the light is set up in this scene) makes it even better ! I'm a KB fan for almost fifty years and will be until the day I bugger off for good…
My daughter is a huge ‘Stranger Things’ fan. She loves ‘Running up that Hill’. I played this to her yesterday. She was blown away. In tears. She thought it was amazing. Wait till she sees this movie. 😢
This song represents a couple’s love strongly. Ppl might disagree, but the woman that carries your child is just as import as the child. All women don’t make it out of their pregnancy.
This song means so much to me and my daughter Stephanie, I was diagnosed with a heart condition and told to abort. My parents were by my side. I said I would not, if I was to die it was God's will but she will live. It was a tough nine months as people with my condition die within two weeks after giving birth. I am happy to report she will be 31 tomorrow. I am still here going to law school. I never have regretted my decision even if I had died she is the very breathe I breath!

Saw this film the year I got married. Ironicalllly, it’s about a man who seconded guessed his decision to become a husband and father right up until the moment he realized he might not be either. John Hughes always said it was semi-autobiographical.
I remember the first time I saw the trailer of thus movie and heard that beautiful wail at the beginning...and how in it's own weirdly beautiful way, it matched the wail a woman makes while giving birth, I always wondered who who was the creature making such a beautiful noise... Now I know. Thank you Kate Bush! A woman's work is indeed never done.

I had a close friend (more like a brother) whose wife was in a very similar situation. They already had one child (a little boy); she was expecting twins in the 2nd pregnancy, which was determined as high risk. As I understand it , she went into early (or premature) labor and the situation went from bad to worse, at warp factor. It was serious to the point that he was told "all three would be dead or alive by morning"; it resulted in a large prayer chain, prayers were answered & all three pulled through (since then, both girls went through nursing school, and since married with children of their own). Several months after the twins were born, he and his wife went to see it when it played in the movie theaters (Reagan was president at the time); l suppose he wasn't really prepared for the delivery & waiting room scene; according to his wife, he went outside and cried bitterly, like a 5-year-old getting a spanking: probably too difficult to watch, considering the similarities. He says he still can't watch that part of it...
Honestly the movie felt a little slow for me but this scene alone makes it all worth it

I was young at the time but wanted a baby trying to have a baby this was on yrs after it was released on HBO or Cinemax constantly at the time and I would watch and get really upset i remember thinking I was never gonna get pregnant it seemed like it was never gonna happen but it did about a year later and now I have 2 beautiful boys and there grown 27 & 24…
