    love all your wax hauls, such a great idea cutting up candles into cubes, I need to work on my fall scent wax melts from my fall candles, enjoy your bath and body haul videos you decribe the scent so well and many wax melt ideas. thank you for sharing!

      +G&S Byers Thank you so much!! It is really relaxing to chunk up the candles. Definitely give it a try on a few and see how you like it. Also it is easier to change scents without having 15 candles sitting around half burned!!

    I like this idea for summer scents because it's so hot here down in S. Texas. Great idea! Thanks for sharing the step-by-step process. Have a great rest of the week!

    Thank goodness for this video, I was so worried about how I was going to melt down my bbw candles and then pour them into trays without making a mess, letting them cool and all that related mess. I'm sure it's much easier than I'm picturing it in my head, but this is actually perfect for me!

      Not to mention, we can mix scents now without melting two candles and hoping they'd commingle w each other!

    I did this after you mentioned it in your other video and it worked great!! I'm enjoying my Radiant Red Maple candle and it smells so much better. No kerosene smell. It's just lovely. Thanks so much for doing this video. 🤗🤗

    New subbie here! Great idea. Hubby used to help me with this a long time ago after burning one of those large grubby candles. Ever heard of Warm Glow candles. Well, that's my hometown. You are basically left with a large chunk of wax because it burns with a huge tunnel. One year he bought me an oversized one. I think it was like 60-90 oz. 😱 anyway we didn't want to waste it so he chunked it for me. I think I continued to enjoy it for at least two more years. 😂 I'm not sure if I would do this with all my candles but great idea for puny wick syndrome or sooty candles. 👍🏻

      +Careyloveslipstick Welcome!!! I am so glad to have you here!! I love burning candles but I had to put a new ac system in last year and I have already gone through four filters because they were getting really dark gray from the soot. I really don't want to have to spend that much money on another system or $25 every three for a filter. That's why I have started chunking mine up. I also love that some throw stronger when melted!!

  • @taratags4499
    @taratags4499 7 лет назад +1

    If this was vendor wax it would be like .50-.75/oz! That's a lot of wax! I melt my candles too but I keep the wax in the jars as is and just cut out little chunks with a buyer knife whenever I want to melt. I like keeping the packaging and wonder if the wax would keep for longer as an intact candle? Not sure. But I do bag some of it when the jar gets low.

    I always knew you could freeze and cut, but the melting and then molding method produces much better looking tarts that are uniform in size and appearance, a unit dose, if you will. It's just easier in every way. So I am sticking with melting them :) (It does look a lot more patience and cleaning sometimes though.)

    • @brandi5730
      @brandi5730 Год назад

      But melting them causes scent loss

    • @BenSoloakaKyloRen
      @BenSoloakaKyloRen Год назад +1

      @@brandi5730: been doing it for years now. the loss is minimal. I melt them with the candle lid ON, so the fragrance is still trapped. the loss only occurs during the pour and re-solidifying stages, which I speed up by using the freezer (once they are hard enough). again, loss is inevitable, so you're CORRECT! But I really haven't experienced loss of enjoyment if you're prepared and quick about your process.

    Love ur videos and all ur ideas, Brenda. Thanks so much for taking the time to share ur findings with us. How long would u leave a B&BW 3 wick in the freezer? Do u start to cut it up immediately, or do u let it sit for a while?

    • @Prettypolkadots
      @Prettypolkadots  6 лет назад +1

      +Carol Stella Thank you so much for your kind words!! I would leave it in the freezer for a couple of hours and then try to get it out. As for chunking them up I let them go back to room temperature because it would be like cutting an ice cube. I am a big enough danger to myself I don’t need anymore help!!😂😂

    A few weeks ago I was melting down a few of my candles and i had a waxident!! :( and of course some of it fell on part of a rug. T_T
    After that I was thinking maybe I could have just frozen the candle and popped it out like I do with my wax warmer dish. Thanks for this video!! Do you warm up the wax a little in the microwave before you start chopping?
    Also what size of bags are those? I've only seen those little bitty ones that hold like one tart each.

    Does the clump of wax also fall apart in pieces if you let the wax go back to room temperature first? I was thinking of putting it in the freezer and once it is out of the glass, then slice it with fish line into nice equal pieces.

      I was wondering the same thing.

    • @Prettypolkadots
      @Prettypolkadots  7 лет назад +1

      +Sandy Marie I would say several hours. It will vary as to whether it is a strong scent. I think to me it lasts as long as you would have a candle burning. I think it amps the scent up more than if you were burning it.

  • @hollyragland9934
    @hollyragland9934 7 лет назад

    What is better cutting up the candles or making tarts? I saw in another video u melted candles and made wax tarts out of them. And do it need a special bag for them

    • @Prettypolkadots
      @Prettypolkadots  7 лет назад

      +Holly Ragland I get the same results either way. I tested it with the London calling candle and they both threw the same. The only difference is it is easier to freeze and cut them up then waiting hours for it to melt and the pouring in ice trays or muffin pans. There is also less mess. Yes you special polypropylene bags for your wax because if you use regular ziplock bags it will leach the scent and oils out of your wax. I would get these from wax vendors because they will have the correct bags for you and different sizes. You can also reuse your candle jar but it won't all fit back in there once it's chopped up or you can use mason jars as well.

      @ginnyburley9552 7 лет назад +2

    • @nickyroberts281

      Ramona Tulk I think they preform better like this. So clean and lovely. Now I really get to enjoy them. Give it a try. You won't be sorry.

    • @Prettypolkadots
      @Prettypolkadots  7 лет назад +3

      +Ramona Tulk I definitely agree with both people. It does make 99% of the candles better. There has only been one that I still couldn't get scent out of and it was the Endless Weekend. It is awesome not to have to deal with the soot and you can change scents so easily and not have 15 half burned candles running around!!

    • @Prettypolkadots
      @Prettypolkadots  6 лет назад

      If it is a BBW candle I put it in the freezer and pop it out of the jar. Then I chop it up. If it is a candle the have a smaller opening than the candle I melt it down and make melts out of it. I hope this helps.

    So you don't burn them. You just cut up and melt like a wax tart

    • @Prettypolkadots

      +Holly Ragland Yes I cut it up and melt them. I got a new ac unit last year and the filters are $25 if I get them off amazon or $50 for the ac place. I had replaced 4 in the first year of having the unit because of soot. I don't want to tear it up the unit but I still want to enjoy my candles. I don't have to fight the puny wicks and when melting the candles I find that it brings the scent out more.

  • @therealmissglamBAM

    • @Prettypolkadots
      @Prettypolkadots  7 лет назад

      +MissGlamBAM Regular ziplock bags leaches out the scent from your wax. The polypropylene bags won't leach the wax from your melts. You can also use the BBW jar or a mason jar to keep them in too. Just make sure it is glass and not plastic.
