Yep. I found a baby that was older than Rockette so she was more independent. I have an old barn next to my house so I moved her out there and started leaving food and water out every other night. She still lives in the barn 3 years later and has had 11 kits during that time. Most of her kits move on after their first winter but a few have also stuck around.

I've raises three raccoons, all three of them eventually returned to the wild on their own. I live far from roads and have no neighbors, so they were very safe outside. I think that makes a big difference.
I ended up raising a raccoon. He was terrified on dark, and cats, so he couldn't be released He lived 6 yrs happy with me, then years at the wildlife center.

25 years!? I had no idea that they could live so long.
@@roborovskihamster5425 ikr i was a bit surprised reading that
It’s not unusual for “wild” animals to live much longer in captivity than in the wild.
Atlanta Zoo had a tiger that lived to 27; about 18 years longer than she would have lived in the wild.
@@07laines07 Yeah apparently raccoons usually live for only 2 or 3 years in the wild but can live for 20+ in captivity.

This has been my dream for ages. Having a Raccoon as a wild pet. Not keeping it at home, but having it come back each day to relax and play around. Raccoons are my absolute favorite. Insanely smart, cute, silly, and insanely good at survival, just a crazy animal. I hope I'll see a raccoon one day, just a wild one, so I can write that off my bucket list.
you should check out raccoon whisperer
You've never seen a raccoon in the wild? You should come to Toronto: we can't escape them here. We once had a family of five raccoons come traipsing through our backyard.
@@michaelwong8083 Yeah I'm from Germany, raccoons aren't as populated as in the US, but they do exist here because someone imported a pair once, and they just started reproducing like crazy a few decades ago. I do hear them rarely at night, but I haven't seen one yet (besides a dead one on the road)
Oh, we got a squad of raccoons that tear up our lawn for worms, my dad hates them. We named the ringleader Phil, hes the chunkiest. One night, i was walking past our screen door and got jumpscared by a raccoon just peering in at me. The lil dude then squared up through the glass. I love raccoons, and sometimes ive seen their lawn rampages in action because of backyard motion lights. They strike in the dead of night, in a pack of four, and they are just so crafty. I'm secretly rooting for Phil to get all the grub he desires. I also recently found out they demolish the entire neighborhoods lawn, not just us. So like if you're a homeowner, probably not ideal, but if you get to just watch the cutest lil scavengers, raccoons are very nice to observe.
Rockette moving into the tree into the backyard is the equivalent of moving out of your parent's place to the house right next door.
Or the attic above the garage.
Or to the basement, or a room above the garage!
@@mikshinee87 Oh, I wasn't laughing at Rockette. I live from home too since finding a house is so expensive, school's relatively close by, and it helps my folks to have an extra set of hands around the house.
I just think it's a bit of an amusing twist since usually these kinds of videos end with the critters venturing off into the wild while Rockette chose to basically keep living the life she lead before with the exception that she now has her own tree.
@@mikshinee87 I live in Australia. There are no rentals in my area, and very few houseshares. People want to save to buy their own houses, so lots of people are moving back to their parents to save money. It has nothing to do with being looked after by mummy. How condescending.

I love this. When I was a kid, we had a resident raccoon that we left our leftovers out for. Stuff that was on the verge of spoiling. The dogs hated her, but she wasn't scared at all, because she knew they couldn't get her though the glass door. Very friendly, and a nightly visitor. One spring she brought her kits too. They're such amazing creatures, and its a shame they're seen as pest.

Hi Lynn
Hello it's really nice
🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
Raccoons fingers fill like they have velvet gloves on. Sweet, kind I used to feed r lil visiting family cat food with cookies, cereal, fresh water even try’s. ❤️🐾🐾❤️
Supposedly, Raccoons are very clean, intelligent, curious animals. They are also incredibly cute; however, if you have one as a pet, LOCK all doors, cabinets, drawers, etc because they are notoriously clever thieves!
It's amazing how good raccoons are at finding trouble to get into. I worked at a wildlife rehab center that temporarily stuck one in a small closet sized room with nothing in it. It pooped on a heating grate and pushed its poop down into the grate.
And even that might not help. They're also very good at breaking things. Say good-bye to your drywall!
They are so smart, a racoon snuck into my truck when I got out to grab the mail, I went inside to grab a broom to help me get it out but when I came back it had hot wired the chevy and sped off. Had to cancel my credit cards I left in there due to fraudulent charges, they found my truck 3 days later on the side of a highway few hundred miles away.
@@Aaron_Bleu you almost had me, but then I remembered than racoons don't have opposable thumbs to drive with.
They can have several diseases, rabbies and distemper to name 2. People need to be careful just taking them in to care for them without a visit to a vet first.
i wish the world would become full of people like you. with no room left for the cruel and abuse ones. loved watching this cutie raised by you family.
That's the perfect ending. She is free yet safe with all of you. God bless you all for caring for this sweet little girl. 🙏🏼😇 🦝
Hi pretty
Caring for animals has nothing to do with being blessed by God. Knowing and living for Jesus Christ does.
The way this entire family just stepped in to take of this precious animal....it just melts my heart.
God bless this family:)
Rockette is adorable. Your friend did good calling you for help. And y'all did good raising her and letting her choose to come and go. ❤️🦝❤️🦝
Thank you so much for rescuing Rockette and nursing her back to good health. You did a good job healing him, and he knows you are his family. God bless you all!
I raised two baby raccoons and released them at about 13 weeks of age. They came back every few nights for a while... now we occasionally see them on the trail cams out back by our stream. It's nice that they are still hanging out together more than a year later. They are definitely safer together.
Thank You HUMANE BEINGS for saving this Precious BLESSING.
She’s not so much wild as she is an outside pet
That's ok, she gets the best of both worlds! Plus she knows she has a safe place to go where she is loved 🐾🦝💖
Raccoons are very opportunistic, so its not really unreasonable the racoon didn't want to leave the source of food. If the family finds it not a hassle to have a pet racoon, then its fine.

I can’t believe this only has 18 likes. It’s a precious thing to have such a trusting, caring relationship with anyone especially a species that normally distrusts your and stays away.
people say we need more people like them but no one is saying we should be like them
The little girl wants to be famous. Noone should be like her.
,An interesting observation, well done.
A huge number of us are already like them.
A professional at my local wildlife rescue center told me once that they do not take raccoons to foster because they need extensive care and training if they are going to be released. I think this video does an excellent job of documenting this. What a wonderful woman to give this precious being a loving home and family (including fur babies) I actually am very happy with the lifestyle this raccoon ultimately chose for herself. Bonus, she will be safe where she is.
If an untrained mom and her young daughters can manage it, a professional rehabber should be able to. And what animal *doesn't* require extensive care and training? Geez. Sounds like someone just doesn't like raccoons.
So true
Aww so glad the lady and her family was able to step in like that and take care of her.
There aren't many things greater than a wild animal instinctively trusting and wanting to be around a kind family 🙂

Thank you for everything you do, making our little planet that much more beautiful and being such caring, loving, and compassionate people.
Why, oh WHY have we not managed to properly domesticate Raccoons already? I know we probably shouldn't try now (not a good idea to be snatching animals out of the wild), but I'm surprised somebody a few hundred years ago didn't try working on it! They are SO cute!

Make sure she has a rabies vaccination, as well as whatever else the vet thinks is a good idea. She is awesome, but could inadvertently act as a disease conduit.
Ole Yeller was the best dog gone dog, and a sad but valuable story for owning a raccoon 🦝
Right! She said they de-flead and de-wormed, but didn't mention rabies shot(s). Raccoons are known hosts. Have you seen the video of the "Zombie racoons" in this one town..😳😷
@@traciescott1871 Also raccon can host rabies and show no sign of it, so yes good suggestion!
not to mention if a raccoon bites anyone it will be killed, bc the only way to test them for rabies is to decapitate them. imo vaccinating this raccoon and keeping her inside as a pet completely would be the safest and wisest choice for everyone involved
@@interrobangbang9547 Raccoons don't make good indoor pets. She'd probably end up digging a hole in the drywall and making a nest out of the insulation. Or tunnel into the cabinets. Maybe a tag or other identifying marker that'll let people know she's been vaccinated.

Sweet . I am glad you helped out an animal in dire need of care.
Wait till she shows up on the porch with her babies, then grand-babies, and 20 or 30 more looking for food. They are TOO cute not to feed, but you may not know what you're getting into!!
I wonder if you couldn't have her fixed, get her a rabies shot etc. I think it might work and it would be the only way to prevent a growing pack hanging around.
Thank you for taking great care of her! You gave her a chance to survive. She is yours now.
Well because she grew up used to relying on you for food I think she's more domesticated than wild so she's your pet more. Just treat her like a outdoor cat. Still will need you even if she goes plays outside.
Lovely Mum and family. Teaching her to be wild, giving her that freedom.
And Rockette choosing to see her humans nightly for hugs and nom noms. xxx
FYI to everyone in chat.
Dawn Dish soap kills Fleas. Just give the animal a bath with the dish soap. It's safe for them (keep it out of their eyes and mouth). And there's no need for chemical treatment!
any soap will do. it works because soap lowers the waters surface tension to the point
lightwights like fleas breaking through the surface and simply drown.
tip to get rid of fruit flys: put a glass of sweet juice mixed with a teaspoon of soap in the kitchen ( or where ever you store food )

Heart-warming story about kind humans and one lucky raccoon that has two lives--wild and domestic.
Just never move, or take her with you if you do. She's definitely not wild and can't survive alone. I'D be a little concerned a coyote might chase her off the property and she'd get lost.

Well done fam
Hopefully, she won't think that all dogs, or humans, are that friendly, other than that, nice story.
She almost certainly won't. James Blackwood feeds and takes care of the wild raccoons in his area (he's got a great RUclips channel) and they're comfortable enough with him that they'll even climb on his shoulder and let him pet them. But they don't like other people, and they won't even approach Mr. Blackwood if he's anywhere except the porch where he feeds them. They will shyly approach people who accompany Mr. Blackwood onto the porch during feeding time, but otherwise they avoid humans as much as any other wild raccoon.
What a wonderful situation and seamless transition to both the wild and domestic homes.
I have always said that I wanted a pet raccoon because of how cute and intelligent they are... this just made my dream come true❤️❤️❤️❤️

I have never loved an animal more than the bond formed with a baby raccoon. His instinct to be wild & free could not be ignored so I soft released him & he continued to return every 10-20 days. It was during winter so I assumed he was finding his own spots to sleep for days at a time. He had a good meal one evening, played for a while, had a little nap curled up under my arm and then left thru his doggie door....and never returned. Broke my heart.
