Thank you so much for your video. I just installed my own 10 x 15 x 8 round top and I’m going to install the metal wall studs like you have. Excellent idea.
Thank you! Good luck with your project. I never thought about adding the studs while I still had the original factory cover. I wonder if mine would have lasted longer?
Had a neighbour who tried this in town, bylaw officer forced them to remove the metal cladding. A temporary shelter is permitted nearly to the street but adding metal makes it a "permanent" structure and therefore must be set back from the road (e.g., 40 ft) like any garage. If you are living in a town, check the bylaws first.
That is good information. Thank you. I checked our county building code and found the following: In our county you can build a structure that is 100 square feet or less without any permit from the county as long as no one lives in the structure or has electrical wiring inside. The minimum setback is 30 feet from the center of the roadway to the front of the structure and 5 feet on the remaining sides.
Hello Scott, I was just stopping by after you left your Comment on my reinforcement Video, and I sure am glad I did, I have saved several of your newer Videos to watch later, when I start on Housing repairs... You have a Great Channel 👍👍👍✌
Exactly what I was looking for, I have a 10x17ft portable garage and I'm looking to strengthen it's roof for the upcoming winter here in Canada (Ontario) I'm gonna try the steel studs method of yours
Fair enough in any event you did a gret job i double ribbed mine for additional strength plus an inner layered tarp and then the factory tarp for the finish
@@HamiltonServices530 it really did make a difference with 2 layers of tarp and double ribs for additional strength, I found the factory ribs were to far apart simply put not enough of them so I found one no more in use same size and doubled up on everything huge difference.
That is interesting how a tarp from Harbor Freight could outlast the Shelterlogic tent material. Good to know for folks who are unable to put metal on the roof. Thanks for dropping a comment.
@@monkeyoperator1360 My UTV garage in a box shelter came with the standard cover. It only has a one year warranty which most shelters have unless you order custom shelters directly from the shelter logic website. There are options for a 14oz. cover which has a 10 year prorated warranty or a 21.5oz. cover which has a 15 year prorated warranty. When I chose the same dimensions as my shelter using the 21.5oz. cover, the price jumped from $429 to $1099. Wish I knew someone that had the heavier cover to get their opinion on the more sturdy cover.
@@HamiltonServices530 i found your video while i was searching for information about the heavier covers. cause i am thinking about getting one so i can avoid my tax bill going sky high
Im about to replace my original cover with ondura premium 9 roofing panels, cheap, strong, nice looking; much more durable than original cover now shredded from wind n snow.
I tried writing a description but it was getting quite long. I will put together a video for you. I don't have any of the metal stud material left over but I think I can do it with some folded paper. I will send you another reply with the link to the video.
According to the website of the store I purchased them at, they are 25 gauge studs. Here is the brand info from the website: ProSTUD 25 3-5/8 in. x 10 ft. 25-Gauge EQ Galvanized Steel Wall Framing Stud.
@@Kyle-ev4fk The metal studs are pretty easy to fit in between the supports. I have another video out there on how I cut the metal studs. The easiest way to cover the frame with metal is to use the wavy corrugated metal or poly panels. Everything will overlap easily with minimal cutting and no folding of the metal whatsoever. Thanks for the subscription!
@@Kyle-ev4fk I had to fabricate the metal I used on my shelter logic in the sheet metal shop I work for. I suppose any prefab metal roof would work as well if you wanted the standing seams. However, I just finished the metal roof on our house build project. The prefab panels can be kind of expensive if you are looking for something budget friendly.

I can't believe anyone still uses this product. The failures of these shelters seem overwhelming. it's hard to comprehend why anyone still uses their shelters.
Thanks for the info. I guess I am money ahead having only spent $500 for the original shelter and the metal upgrade. Would have loved to build a garage but I needed something real quick to store my UTV/snowplow at the time.
Best idea that I've seen to date. Really like how you added the metal studs on the top section.
Thanks. Hopefully you can use some of the ideas on your project. Thank you for dropping a comment.

That is my hope. I will have to come up with a clever door opening once the zipper panels decide to fail.

I would be interested to see how that came out. Sounds like that would protect the factory tarp from sagging and ripping.

From their website, the cheap 9 oz is standard with a 1-year warranty. With a 14.5 oz cover, 10-year warranty. With a 21.5 oz cover, 15-year warranty.
