  • On the RC Driver Channel, we feature a lot of RC vehicles that fit into the fun basher category. But believe it or not, Greg used to spend the majority of his RC time at the track racing. Times have changed and he’s not at the track as much as he used to, but hitting the track for some laps is still part of the love of his hobby. So when the opportunity came about to try out the latest and greatest ⅛ off-road electric racing buggy from Team Losi Racing, he jumped at the opportunity. We present to you, the TLR 8IGHT X-E. Sure it’s a little late in the season, but Greg jumps into this kit with enthusiasm. In this video, we’ll go over all the details of the 8IGHT X-E and how it’s a huge change from its predecessors. Then we take it up to the world famous hobby shop RC Madness for some track testing. Thinking about getting into the world of 1/8th off-road? The TLR 8IGHT X-E may be just the right buggy for you.

      I'm one of those. Back when we were kids we had a set up and it's all we would use but we would see the higher end cars and want one so bad but parents wouldnt want to spend so much so all we could do was fantasize. Fast forward 30yrs later, we get into careers and make our own $$ and family and bills are stable and we venture into a local hobby shop for old times sake and boom it's a done deal: "500 for a buggy, couple hundred on accessories, under a 1000 to get some insane action? Yeah let's do it." Get home, tell wife it was only a "couple hundred" lol, hit the street and front yard or local school soccer field for some bashing. Then break something and back to the LHS for replacement parts: 15 for OEM or 45 for carbon fiber? Let's go carbon fiber...and it continues like this

      @dtrain8335 3 года назад +4

      I agree! It's not a cheap hobby so when people have kids and mortgages it gets put on the back burner for most of us. Once you get the bug as a kid though it never goes away. I was just at RC Madness today! The hobby has come so far over the last 20+ years.

    • @timsgta
      @timsgta 3 года назад +1

      It's a great time to do so! A lot of us are now in our mid 40s and having a great time being kids again! The hobby has really had a resurgence the last few years...I have gotten back into ground RC, and first time into airplanes. Such a fun hobby. I had a Kyosho Double Dare and Losi XX as a young man...

    @GothKid1996 4 года назад +3

    you could buy spare set of rear shocks and put them in the front, as well as in the back more MORE traction.
    I have a race tuning setup strategy That really works for me and has everything to do with the weight of the car, and the front/rear weight distribution at the wheels, and that's honestly all the information you need, for everything from your shock stiffness, down to your caster, camber, toe angle, and sway bar stiffness. This is all Forza 7 stuff though, so I haven't been able to translate to RC measurements, and rather than make the tune custom for the driver, it just supports the physics of the car. When I do though I'm going straight to RC racing websites and posting the algebra.

      Problem with it is the rear end uses very little scrub on the rear hub. Hard to get the rear end to get traction. If you get it right though usually the fastest car on the track but the setup has to be right.

    • @Finnish_observer
      @Finnish_observer Месяц назад

      I had problem with oversteer, especially at end of the corner when I accelerated out of the corner. Luckily I found remedy and now rear is planted. I can now accelerate hard out of the corner and rear just grips very well. Kyosho mp10 rear hubs is what it needs. You need to drill new hole 7mm inwards on rear arm. In addition I am using TLR LRC D-block that also gives more rear grip. There is a good explanation in rctech TLR 8x forum by silence360. He also provides 3d print model of drill jig for free. I downloaded and printed it and it works fine.

They want specific body $70 and 17mm conversion $37 new tires $55. I have many other cArs from the past and now. This seems like almost the same chassis. Is it worth me changing if I only have dirt oval? I've been upset about my purchase and wonder what you think?

  • @pssnyder

    These are sweet but at a grand total of $1,000+ for this setup its a little out of range. You have any kit builds that come in at sub $500, I'd love to check that out. I haven't gotten into local track racing yet so something like this is way out of my beginner league. Haha I'm starting off in the Stock Slash class and am looking into buggy 2WD builds so I can get in at a lower novice class.

Do you think the new TLR truggy would be a good kit? Any kit would be better quality than a rtr arrma no? What makes arrmas so tough in the first place is because they’re biased off 8th scale buggy and truggy platforms. Plus I’ve been dying to get another kit after experiencing building my first one a few months ago. I almost can’t bare to buy another rtr now 😂

  • @Crewchief227

    Is their any reason you have the pinion collar facing inward with the motor slid back? Is it for weight distribution? Looks like too much leverage off the shaft, I would rather flip the pinion, and have the motor farther forward in those barrel clamps.

    • @gregheckert1396
      @gregheckert1396 4 года назад +1

      You won't get any deflection from the pinion being this way. It's as strong as if it were the other way. Moving the motor forward into the clamps CAN cause flex. The farther away you move the motor from the point where it clamps down to where the pinion is will allow the motor to flex or rather the mount and motor. It's hard to explain without showing how it would cause flex.

      @@cnnlt200 yep agreed. My sc5 takes hits all the time well because i suck at racing lol i have had this truck for about a yr now and the only thing that broke was a right rear ball stud in my a main thats it. My buddys tlr sct snapping stuff left and right. I used to run a jrx2 when i was a kid and seems like there quality has gone down since then.
