    Iam 72 yrs old & I tried your way to make idli . Wow really so soft , thank you so much . Only thing I had to keep the batter for 24 hrs as it’s cold in Houston . Thanks again 👍👍never eaten so soft idli in my life .💃💃💃💃

      From Indian store, discarded the bag so no idea which brand . It’s small white grain rice . Thank you again 🙏🏽🌹

    After fermentation, can I keep the batter in fridge for 1 or 2 days?
    And I don't have the batter making machine. Can I use a mixer?

      Soon after grinding Required batter u keep for fermentation and balance u store in fridge. Like divide into 2 after grinding. One portion keep 8hrs fermentation.
      Another portion as soon u grind u store in fridge.
      So after 2 or 3 days take the 2nd batter and keep fermentation for 6hrs. Then prepare idling.
      Fresh batter takes 8hrs to fermentation, but stored batter takes only 6 hrs to fermentation. Coz 10% of fermentation ll be done in fridge itself when it was stored.

      Mixer is good for only does batter. For Idli batter,need grinder to grind the urid Dhall and make it to bounce double amount of batter like a ball. Unfortunately mixer won't increase the upari.

      I hv a grinder...but i prefer mixie! It is quick n easy in.mixie..grinder tks tm n tedious to wash before n after grinding..d rollers r heavy to lift n wash. .messy job..

    I tried to grind the same as you said. But after soaked more than 5 hours. Javvarisi not grinded properly? Can we grind in mixer and add mam?

      May I answer… I stopped using wet grinder bcs of age have gone back to using mixie. I use one is two method…with using split urad. Two idly rice two split urad dal. A little methi seeds no sago. My idlies have never let me down 2:1. In fact I used to live in Kenya quite cold and have used Basmati rice by soaking it in slightly hot water and my idlies were like sponges!

      Two rice is to one split urad dal (for mixie) minimum 5 hrs for Rice and one hour for dal!

      Usually nan sekama dan vaipen. But few times dan soft ah irukum few times konjam hard ah irukum. U can skip if u have no choice

      Anu Reddy 4 cups boiled rice, 1 cup urad dal, 1 tbsp spoon chanson dal and Toor dal 1/2 tsp methi seeds

      புழுங்கல் அரிசி தான் பயன்படுத்த வேண்டும். அது இட்லி புழுங்கல் அரிசியாக இருந்தாலும் சரி சாபாட்டு புழுங்கல் அரிசியாகஇருந்தாலும் சரி. பச்சரிசி மட்டும் பயன்படுத்தக் கூடாது. Some of the cooking rice is there which is both pacharisi and pulungal rice. All of the ponni rice is pacharisi and big basmathi rice is pulungal rice. You have to choose any of the pulungal rice. I hope u understand
