I noticed a lot of people in the Bronx had been evicted last year during the time of Elections, many lived in Section 8 or low-cost housing. The problem was that many people didn't pay the rent because they thought they would not have to during the bigC and used the stimulus funds for material possessions and vacations instead of paying the rent.

People thought not paying rent was cool because of the eviction moratorium now it's time to pay the piper. Don't cry and play victim to the circumstances you single-handedly created. Landlords waited along time for this and are owed massive amounts of back rent from renters who didn't want to pay, move or leave for payment failures for over 6 months.

The government puts every mechanism in place to help Tennants, but very little to help struggling landlords. Many of those tennants now being evicted, used the eviction moratorium during the pandemic to not pay rent. Many of them never lost their jobs, but used their rent monies for other things. I had a Tennant that was a nursing assistant, that worked double and triple shifts during the pandemic, and chose to not pay me because of the moratorium. After the moratorium was lifted, I started the eviction process, she moved out owing me 9 months rent, $18000. Me a small mom and pap landlord had to swallow that.
Everyday these people keep asking for so called affordable housing, and there will be none.
The politicians that those very same people keep electing, are the ones making housing less affordable, with all the extreme regulations they keep passing. Not to mention the property taxes and utility bills.

She had a tenant just refuse to pay during the pandemic, she STILL had to pay taxes and bills for that property, per the contract. She was so sick for months, constantly worrying about her own financial struggle as this was her main source of income. People don't deserve to live on anyone's property for free. The media and the government should think about both sides

Yes, I have an aunt and uncle that had a huge house that took them almost 30 years to pay off, she's a retired nurse and he was retired electrician. they became empty nesters and their 4 kids grew up and moved away. To say their house was immaculate does not do it justice, they decided to rent their house out and downsize and buy a smaller home. The rent they got for the home they owned was additional income. When the renter stopped paying rent, my aunt and uncle (recently diagnosed with cancer) were in such despair, they went through their savings, borrowed money against both homes, while trying to cover taxes maintenance along with medical expenses. At one point she even offered "keys for cash", giving the tenant $6,500 just to leave the house. This lady who was a tenant for over 4 years said no, she wanted $15,000 so she could stay in the nice neighborhood for her kids! My aunt ended up back at work, sold the second house and rented a terrible place because that's what they could afford. By the time her kids found out it was beyond a mess, they had pay over $3,00 to evict the lady and 3 weeks before the eviction the tenant filed for bankruptcy (that took another 13 1/2 months). By the time my aunt got her house back it was destroyed. The kids pulled together, got it repaired and finally sold for a fraction of what is was worth. They now live with the oldest daughter, but it is nothing like living on your own, enjoying the fruits of their labor. She helps with the grand kids, my uncle is still fighting the battle with cancer, yet they hope to one day travel the world which is what they always wanted. So yes, they should highlight what this really does to families, not just freeloaders!

NYC is not for middle class. its a city for low income lazy people.
Lawmakers should use their brain and think. If the law is protecting both landlord and tenant equally so landlord can rent out their apartments safe and easy then i dont see why the rent wouldnt come down. Lawmakers does it so big corp tenant can buyout elderly's home which they use it to help support their retirement, by creating law to "protect" irresponsible and lazy tenants, so small landlord either couldnt keep up with their mortgage or the house maintenance. In the end, lawmakers create a tax abatement or low income housing policy to encourage big corp to build high rise residential buildings which the rent still cost above market price.
