Like others have said Romanticide from thia live show is another facet of their range. Floor was on a show called Beste Zengers and it really showcases her voice. Especially her duo with Henk Poort doing their own rendition of Phantom of the Opera.
Why so many people always feel called to have to educate about a comment that is obviously only intended to convey admiration is a mystery to me. Some comments can also be left as they are. So Floor doesn't have three lungs. Such a surprise.

Floor Jensen is still a beast at the age of 40, i fell easily in love with her back when she was in After Forever, then fell out and came back as Nightwish lead singer, i went out of my mind.
You missed out her other great band that she started ReVamp!! She started them after After Forever and was with them till she got the call from Nightwish. In fact she played with both bands for a couple of years until it got too hard to carry on and eventually had to disband ReVamp to devote all her energy for Nightwish. I just thought I'd mention this as ReVamp were a great band too!! Cheers Ronnie
To explain it simply: Most music produced is boring bulls***, produced by a few composers to fit the mainstream and then sold to to the bands. But here we have Nightwish, with the mastermind Tuomas Holopainen behind it, who composes this beautiful pieces of art himself. And of course the rest of the band, who is skilled enough to pull it off.
yes, for now, you're still in the rabbit hole. There's still a lot to go. You'll notice Floor is the best singer in the world. In a little while, you'll join the greatest Army there is.
In re layers: this is because Tuomas is a composer, not a songwriter. As a lifelong (74 years) listener of classical music, I love the little moments when you'll hear a quick arpeggio from a flute, or a little dance with an oboe...and I can't always tell when it's him working a keyboard or part of the orchestral backing track. How many "metal" bands utilize the sound of an oboe? He knows orchestration and therefore isn't just throwing in a bunch of horns for noise...everything is calibrated, everything has a purpose. Hence, layers. I recommend "Yours is an Empty Hope" - Wembley 2015 (see if you pass the listener test ;). and "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean" - Buenos Aires 2018. Others will tout the longer pieces...plenty of time to get to those. Enjoy. I certainly have.
This is one bad azz song!!!! Love the lyrics...and the whole arrangement by Tuomas ( the keyboard player ) is amazing! The drum solo is fantastic...heck...the whole band is fantastic! I am not the typical type of audience these guys have!!!! I am 64 years old...but grew up listening to the bands that led to heavy metal and hard rock! Oh...if you want to listen and react to a similar group...try Within Temptation! They have a sound titled "And We Run" that features Xzibit! Yes..Mr. Pimp my Ride!!! And let me tell you...it's a freaking amazing song!

My favorite piece from this concert is "Song of Myself." I highly recommend it but, because you're a lyricist, I would also recommend you listen to the studio version (perhaps on your own time after you react to the concert). It includes a long poetry recitation that wouldn't be suitable for a festival but which appears, in snippets, on the backdrop for the Wacken 2013 performance.

I totally get the amazement factor! I was brought up on classical music, first as a boy soprano, then an orchestral violinist, finally singing as bass in a male voice choir (yeah, my voice breaking was pretty extreme and fairly traumatic - suddenly, I didn't have a clue how it worked or even know how to read the music, as it was in bass clef instead of treble!). I listened mostly to classic rock (when my parents couldn't hear) or their idea of more lighthearted music (stage musicals and operettas), and metal was most definitely fringe for me for many years. Nightwish combines everything I love in music, with complexity turned up to 11 to keep me finding new things in it even after many listenings. I can no longer perform (those days are well behind me) but can certainly enjoy, and Nightwish stirs emotion like nothing else I have ever hard in my life. As you say, so many layers, woven together into a rich tapestry by Tuomas (who I consider the greatest living composer AND a great poet in the English language) and with Floor fronting the delivery of them, perfection! Every member is a master of their craft and endorsed by the makers of the instruments they use, but none display any ego on stage - the song and the story it tells comes first, always, and their fans second. That humility is a part of what makes them great and engenders the love the fans return to them. When you have watched "Please Learn The Setlist In 48 Hours" you will see examples of this, like Tuomas himself distributing cold water to fans crushed at the front in a sweltering South American venue, or Marco wandering over to meet fans at the security fence at a show to sign autographs late at night. It is great viewing, and shows how the band and Floor came to be so close, rescuing each other. Floor was just coming back off a burnout when she got the call, so had to step up in a big way - Nightwish found themselves with no lead vocalist halfway through a world tour. Although they had contacted her one week earlier (at her sister's wedding) with a fairly general inquiry as to her availability to fill in for Anette's maternity break, it was pretty indefinite (so she had made no preparation at all) until on the Saturday night of 29th Sept 2012 they called her in the Netherlands and said in effect "You're up! Meet us in Salt Lake City tomorrow, next show is on Monday 1st Oct in Seattle". It was several shows in before she even had proper stage costumes!

As a songwriter, You will like the song called "Weak Fantasy". Doesn't matter what version You choose to watch, but I prefer the one from Tampere.
To me also Tampere version is the best.
