Thanks for the video. I had picked up a few packs of petunias from a 4/$1 rack. I didnt know they needed light, but I have grown celery and it also needs light to germinate. I have large hands, but I dont fear small things. I am a retired watchmaker. I read someplace, forget where, a good reason to not fear starting seeds. They start in nature, without any help.

Growing petunias is very satisfying. The tiniest of seed and they quickly turnout to be very vigorous and a very netted root system.
I grew Wave petunias this year. I got only 15 pelleted seeds. I take a toothpick and wet the end to pick each seed up. Dome them with no vent and place on heat mat with light.
I recently ordered those white rimmed petunias you showed and excited to hear you loved them!
If you ever grow non stop begonias I will tell you a tip that I searched relentlessly for and that is they need warmth to grow after they germinated. I tried to figure it out and watched a guy in the UK that grows them and finally figured it out that the only thing I didn’t have compared to his greenhouse was heat. Bingo the next day I could see them growing and the color was greener. Up to this point they would not grow. I had a fan on all the seedlings and made it worse so I domed them loosely and put them on the top rack indoors.

Didn't realize how tiny they were until I opened some of the packages. Didn't know about broadcasting then so I did a dumb and hope method. Our packs here don't have those seeds tubes in them, just loose seeds. I will join Kate in her happy seedling dance and congratulate her in sowing seeds.

Yay!!! I could watch this over and over. I love seeing people who have never done this before. :D For slightly wet hands in between sowing sets, I use paper towels to dry. It doesn't leave fibers and I always know that my hands will get to the right "dryness" no matter whether I'm sowing little seeds or big. (For YEARS I wiped my hands on my pants.) The paper towels easily dry out for more uses or they can be used to wipe up after all is said and done.
