Very interesting how this film seems to polarise opinions so much. Personally I thought it was in his top 3 movies … that applies to Fassbender as well as Fincher, maybe not for everyone but for myself I found it entirely engaging.

Good perspectives, but- The opening monolog was narration, not "his own inner thoughts": e.g.: "Consider yourself lucky if our paths never cross." - He is speaking to the viewer, not himself.

The Killer in terms of visuals and editing were great, but I didn't feel for any of the characters, and lack of any real character arc left me non invested in them. This feels like a Pilot to a series that could have been.

"The Return of *Anton Chigurh* " : Ha..🤫😁
.....can't help but wonder if Netflix will follow up with a sequel _(or sequels),_ considering that the graphic novels 📖📚 absolutely provide years of content which can serve as a foundation for more *'The Killer'* based stories adapted to film.
Because of Andrew Kevin Walker's writing and David Fincher's directing, plus Fassbender's novel accurate, _(detail oriented, cerebral, introverted, methodical)_ portrayal of the lead character, I was 100% engaged with the movie. Also helped that I was familiar with all of _The Smiths_ songs in the soundtrack and personal intimate/extensive life experiences in _La Republica Dominicana_ resonated with me _(same with other filming locations in the movie: Paris, NYC, Chicago, Florida...)._
    *Sequel(s)* ? 🤔

No, he was lying to himself. He was not the slick killer that he told us.
The whole point of the film was about the banality of evil. You don't have to be a genius or enigmatic as long as you are a psychopath. He was not an enigmatic, clever hit man. fasbender didn't play him cool and you could see that in his eyes, he wasn't relaxed.
He was a lasy working-class who listened to Smits with its silly shallow lyrics but he was psychopath and couldn't tell the difference.. He had no taste.
He had no class, he tried to tip the doctor who looked back at him in contempt.
He was more like dustman. A dedicated pro wouldn't get bored after five days and he wouldn't complain about not sleeping . A pro definately wouldn't keep calling his contact like an immature child.
He lived on q cheap colony, not in a fancy place despite having the money or maybe that was an exaggeration too,
He was a law student whose professor saw him more suited to killing for money than being a lawyear. He had no respect for him.
He was constantly telling himself to snticipate and not improvisr but the camera made a point of the fact that the girl was moving on to the path of the bullet but he didn't anticipate it
He was not a pro. The idiot didn't anticipate that he had become lose end and went back home straight away but got lucky and was delayed otherwise he would have been dead.
The EXPERT was the woman and the joke was on him.
He couldn't fight for all his yoga. He didn't dose the dog properly and he put his hand in the drawer and pulled out a grator as weapon.
He got his calculation wrong and probably his aim with the nail gun , so he ended up killing the guy before he could he get the information he needed. He kept getting lucky and his luck would run out soon. Even the way he held his hand gun going from one room to snother with his arm stretched out was amaturish and dangerous. The way you hold your gun is how it is done in John wick. as trained by pros.
He was average as he admitted it himself. He wanted to be exceptional but he wasn't.

I like your interpretation of this movie. Mine is this movie is the opposite of John wick, which is the hyper fantasy hitman movie, with tailored suit and 100%kill rate, the killer is about dedicated blue collar hitman’s normal day goes wrong, and we see him struggle throughout the whole movie and become less cynical in the end. He’s everyday us, cynical, boring, sometimes egotistic, except he’s killer, he’s proficient, but he is every bit flawed as the rest of us.

    • @ExiledGypsy
      @ExiledGypsy 6 месяцев назад +1

@@menglongyuan2366 I am glad you share my point of view because hardly anyone else seems to notice the small details. A lot of film "analysts" don't seem to get it.
Directors don't interpret their own work which is how it should be. Their art to attempt to communicate and the rest is up to the audience.
I have a totally different interpretation of Kubrick's last film; Eyes Wide Shut too. I think that film was also not quite understood by a the public in general and only partially by some.
Kubrick of all people always had a very cohesive purpose. He never did anything that contradicted his main narrative.
A lot of people got some parts but not in a cohesive manner without contradiction in their analysis.
I just don't believe Kubrick would allow himself such contradicitons.

To compare this to Fight Club is massive hyperbole. Fight Club has an internal momentum and rhythm, that the Killer sorely lacks. This was probably by choice. The Killer is Fincher in cruise control, utterly competent, technically amazing, but the movie has nothing to say and comes across as a dull John Wick knockoff.

I don't see much meaning in similarity with Fight Club. Some parts reminded me of other movies like Assassin, and the driving part with the radio at night like Drive.
Everything in the Killer movie was inferior to other, better films.
I prefer when the main character talks to the audience, not themselves.

The killer is one empty soulless, shallow, meaningless movie. It has the soul of a dead man. Unless, of course, you get turned on by watching people die in a typical revenge movie… which in this day and age should not be enough. Compare this empty soulless movie against the brilliant Korean movie “I saw the devil” with true depth, irony, and morality. The only person place or thing we give a shit about, in the killer is the dog. Or compare this movie against the much better movie, “collateral“. At least there, the killer has something inside him.
Fincher is probably the most overrated Director in Hollywood.

@@mcplainview8376 Number one I’m already not a fan of Fassbender. In my opinion his characters for the most part have zero charisma or personality. He’s just flat. I get that in this film that’s kinda the point but he was just so dull.
Second. About five minutes into the film during his droll monologue he says something to the effect of “in this line of work you don’t want to do anything that stands out or that would make you memorable to any passerby’s”.
Cut to him standing in the middle of a busy street that’s occupied by normal looking people in normal clothes, meanwhile he’s wearing this ridiculous outfit and hat and sunglasses that make him stand out like a sore thumb.
Then a few minutes later in that same scene he drops his phone to the ground and stomps on it! Right out in the open where any numbers of people could have seen him. If I whitenesses someone do that it would be pretty damn memorable to me. I actually lol’d at that moment.
The same type of crap happens throughout the entire film. Maybe there’s some higher meaning to it but I must be a dummy because I didn’t pick up on it.
Another thing, the first 30 minutes or more is us watching him being this ultra professional. Being super meticulous with everything he does (which by the way we’ve already seen all of that in the trailer). All the while he’s telling us how good he is. What one should or shouldn’t do if you want to be in this line of work. It’s all building up to the moment of truth (which by the way we have absolutely NO IDEA who he’s supposed to be killing and where the target is supposed to be) Finally after the loong 30 minutes he pieces together his weapon (for the second time by the way!! We don’t know why he put it together the first time?? Was he practicing??? Did he see something??) that made zero sense.
So again here’s the moment of truth, finally we see the target, multiple times walking back and forth. All the while he’s running his annoying internal mouth telling us how great he is. What does he do? He fucking misses!! Lol!! Maybe if he wasn’t blabbing to himself the entire time he could have done the job. Yes I know he says something about his blood pressure being too high to take the shot. But it just didn’t work for me.
Holy shit there were soo many other things that didn’t work for me. I couldn’t decide if this was a comedy or what.
Look, as I said earlier maybe there’s a point here that not everything works out the way you want it to? Who knows. Seemed like a dumb lazy film to me.
